Harrow Borough striker scores for QPR * By Simon Mail » Harrow Borough boss David Howell will hold discussions tomorrow with QPR manager Neil Warnock about striker Troy Hewitt. Boro's teenage star scored twice for the Championship leaders in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace this week. He has been tracked by a host of clubs and could attract an offer from QPR. Howell said: "I'm meeting them tomorrow to find out their thoughts on Troy. We're just going to see what they think of him but I'm not going to second guess what is going to happen." www.harrowtimes.co.uk/sport/8856760.Harrow_Borough_striker_impresses_for_QPR/

Add Sky Warnock plans striker talks Hewitt impresses with brace for QPR's reserves Last updated: 16th February 2011 Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock is planning to hold talks with non-league striker Troy Hewitt over a possible deal at Loftus Road. Hewitt has scored 20 goals for Harrow Borough in the Ryman Premier League this season and played for QPR's reserves on Tuesday. The 21-year-old scored twice in the game and he impressed Warnock with his performance against Crystal Palace. The forward is currently studying for a marketing degree, but Warnock is keen to discuss the situation with Hewitt. Warnock told the Fulham Chronicle: "I like the look of the lad. "I can't see him playing in the kind of 4-3-3 we're tending to use now. He'd be better suited to a 4-4-2 and playing off the shoulder of a big man but there's no reason to say that can't happen either. "We're going to sit down tomorrow late afternoon and have a chat. I believe he's at university, so that's bound to come into the conversation" www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11711_6755865,00.html

Harrow Observer Former Ilford striker Troy Hewitt signs for Harrow Borough Jul 15 2010 By Tim Edwards Troy Hewitt has become Harrow Borough's first summer signing. The 19-year-old former Yeovil and Blackpool striker bagged 13 goals in 37 appearances for Ryman Division One North side Ilford last season and did enough in pre-season training to convince Borough boss David Howell he was worthy of a deal at Earlsmead. Hewitt could plug the gap seemingly left by Rocky Baptiste. The much-travelled target-man was Borough's top scorer last season with 22 goals in all competitions, making him an attractive proposition to other clubs in the division. However, he has failed to turn up for any of Harrow's three training sessions so far and has not contacted Howell about his plans. It is the same story for goalkeeper Keita Karamoko. “I have not heard from Rocky,” admitted Howell. “If he comes back then that will be all well and good, just as it will be is he does not and signs for someone else. “He is the highest paid player at the club and I might possibly find it difficult to accommodate him again next season.” In stark contrast Howell is impressed with new recruit Hewitt and sees similarities with former Borough hit-man Gary Noel, whose free-scoring exploits two seasons ago (18 goals in 22 games) alerted him to the attentions of several higher clubs, yet he opted to drop down a division to join Croydon Athletic. “Troy has trained well and I like the look of him,” added Howell. “He is a goalscorer who can also play on the left. I get the same feeling with him as I did with Gary Noel – he is quick and technically very good. “He has that bit of confidence about him which goalscorers need.” Meanwhile, Ryan Watts and Kwasi Frempong could be following Tobi Jinadu (Kingstonian) through the exit door at Earlsmead. Watts is still on trial with Woking while Frempong is hoping to earn a deal with fellow Conference South side, Basingstoke Town. www.harrowobserver.co.uk/west-london-sport/allsport/2010/07/15/former-ilford-striker-troy-hewitt-signs-for-harrow-borough-116451-26859401/

Meanwhile a non-league striker we probably do NOT want to sign! Dorset Echo - Dorchester Town striker jailed and sacked by club 11:30am Tuesday 15th February 2011 * By Ky Capel and Miriam Phillips » Dorchester Town striker Rico Wilson has been jailed for seven months. The Magpies player appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday on his 20th birthday and was sentenced to seven months in prison for possessing 1.87g of methedrone – a class B drug – and various other charges. The striker was sentenced to three months in jail for a total of four offences – possessing a class B drug on April 18, failing to comply with a direction from a police officer in August, failing to turn up to court in September and a fourth charge of using threatening words of behaviour in Bournemouth town centre on January 9. He was sentenced to a further four months in prison for breaching a suspended sentence order imposed in August relating to an ABH assault charge in August 2008. After hearing about his jail sentence the club acted quickly and sacked Wilson with immediate effect. However, although disappointed with the youngster’s actions, boss Ashley Vickers has not ruled out a possible return to the club on his release. He said: “We’ve cancelled his contract with immediate effect so he’s left the club. He has got himself into a bit of bother and he is now paying the consequence. “We want to stick by people but in regards to the possibility of him coming back to the club, we will cross that bridge when we come to it and see how he is when he comes out.” Vickers added: “Rico’s a young man. I don’t condone what he’s done but things happen in life. “Jake Smeeton was in a bit of bother himself a while back but he is a changed man and is now playing ever so well for the club. People do mature, albeit slowly for some.” Dorchester Town chairman Shaun Hearn said: “We certainly don’t condone any behaviour like that and all we can do is terminate his contract, which we have done. “As a football club we don’t want to be tarnished with anything like that because we are a family club, but on a personal level I have never had any problem with Rico. “Perhaps as a club we need to do a bit more to find out what is going on in players’ lives as we were unaware of what has happened. “No-one is an angel and we don’t want to discard him or kick him while is down. “Ashley Vickers is a good manager – he’ll talk to him when he comes out. If we can help people improve their lifestyles then we will. “He has to face the punishment but if we can help him lead a normal life then we will.” Wilson was due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates Court today to face further charges for possessing both class A and C drugs on September 23. www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/localnews/8853535.Dorchester_Town_striker_jailed_and_sacked_by_club/

As part of a broader interaction, would it be worth offering Harrow use of the training ground when we are not using it?... plus a pre-season game or two, behind closed doors if necessary.

Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town deny making offer for non-league hotshot Thursday 17th February 2011 * Exclusive By Ned Payne » ANDREW Fitton has denied Town have made a bid for Harrow Borough starlet Troy Hewitt, as Championship leaders QPR get set for talks with the 20-goal hotshot. Sources close to the non-league club have told the Advertiser that out of around 15 interested clubs, only Swindon, Peterborough and Barnet have tabled definitive offers for the 21-year-old. But Town chairman Fitton rubbished claims that Town, or any other club, had bid for the striker, who is currently enjoying a fairytale debut season in the Ryman League Premier Division. “I don’t believe they have had any formal bids,” said Fitton. “It’s more a discussion at this stage and we’ve offered him the chance to come to Swindon.” Hewitt has spent time on trial at QPR in the last two weeks and played in behind-closed-doors matches against Tottenham and latterly Crystal Palace yesterday, a game in which he netted a brace. And the Loftus Road side are set for imminent discussions with the full-time marketing student, with boss Neil Warnock poised to sit down with his target this afternoon. Meanwhile, Town are poised to hand a trial to an unnamed player next week, the mystery man being a midfielder currently plying his trade in non-league. l EXETER have released a statement following the postponement of their League One fixture with Town on Tuesday. Referee David Coote called the St James’ Park contest off due to a waterlogged pitch, resulting in Exeter’s third postponement of the season The statement read: “The club would like to apologise to any of our own fans and those travelling from Swindon that may have been inconvenienced by the late postponement. “In the light of this situation the club board, having further considered the condition and performance of the pitch, has decided to seek further technical assistance and legal advice.” The postponed clash has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 29. www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/8857739.Swindon_Town_deny_making_offer_for_non_league_hotshot/

Studies won't stop Troy Hewitt signing for QPR, says boss By Jon Batham
TROY Hewitt will lay aside his degree studies for the chance to fulfil his dreams of professional football.
So says Harrow Borough boss David Howell ahead of the young striker’s meeting with QPR manager Neil Warnock today.
Warnock confirmed his interests in the 21-year-old following his two goals for Rangers this week in a trial game against Crystal Palace.
However, the R's are believed to be concerned the east Londoner’s Marketing degree studies might be a sticking point to the deal.
Not so says Howell.
He said: "If QPR are concerned about Troy’s studies that’s good because it means they are concerned about his life away from football.
"But Troy wants to be a footballer and so the studies will not be an issue.
"He’s only in the first year of a three-year course in marketing so he could put it on one side and pick it up again later if necessary.
"Chris King my left-back did a similar thing when he signed for Accrington

Great.
It's the kind of deal that we can't lose on...Putting up comparatively little money. If it works, great. If it doesn't, oh well. Maybe loan him out to Championship clubs next season (such as Fulham!)

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/q/qpr/9401010.stmQPR set to capture striker Hewitt Championship leaders QPR are close to completing the signing of striker Troy Hewitt from non-League Harrow Borough. Hewitt, who recently turned 21, has scored 20 goals in 30 appearances for the Ryman League outfit this season. He attracted interest from a number of clubs before impressing during a trial at Loftus Road. "I like him and definitely want to do something. I'd like to come to an agreement and take him on board," said QPR manager Neil Warnock. Hewitt had spells with Ilford and Clapton prior to joining Harrow Borough last summer, since which he has been monitored by several Championship and League One sides. More recently he came to QPR's attention, and this week scored twice for their reserve team in a match against Crystal Palace. Warnock added: "I've managed in non-league, and I don't want to rip them (Harrow Borough) off. They've made him the player he is."

www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6759039,00.html Queens Park Rangers are set to beat a host of clubs to conclude the signing of non-league starlet Troy Hewitt, skysports.com can confirm. The Harrow Borough forward has been in sparkling form this season with over 20 goals to his name. Hewitt, 20, has never played league football, having joined Harrow from Ilford. But a host of league clubs had been drawn to his performances for Harrow - who are emerging as one of the best breeding grounds for players outside the Football League. QPR are now set to seal Hewitt's signature beating Crystal Palace, Burnley, Charlton, Wycombe and Swindon to his signature. Talks Neil Warnock has confirmed his is pursuing Hewitt after he impressed during a training spell at Loftus Road. "We have already talked with QPR and will continue talks next week," his agent Tony Finnigan told skysports.com. "Troy has performed wonderfully for Harrow this season, who have shown again there is no better place for talent to progress." In the last two seasons the like of Albert Adomah and Robin Shroot have joined Harrow before quickly earning moves to the Football League

There's probably better examples than Nick Ward, he was FIFA's young player of the year or some such accolade so he already had the hype, felt a tad sorry for him as we didn't settle him in Earl's Court!

As with any player malking such a big jump. there's risk involved here from both sides. It would be good to see a basic modest transfer fee, plus an amount per first team game (capped at a maximum), plus an amount per goal scored for QPR in first team games (capped at a maximum), plus a percentage of any sell-on fee. That way, if he does well for us, we win and Harrow wins. If he doesn't work out, we haven't lost and are protected.
Also, give the lad a week each year he is with QPR, paid, to go back to Harrow to help them with their training and youth. Everybody wins.

Hewitt to continue QPR talks next week February 18 2011 Harrow Borough striker Troy Hewitt is set to continue talks with Queens Park Rangers on Monday. The 21-year-old and Boro’ manager David Howell met with R’s boss Neil Warnock on Thursday to start discussing a deal, which Howell said had gone “very well”. “He [Warnock] would like him to be there on Tuesday night for their game against Ipswich,” said Howell.
“I don’t know if it’ll be tied up by then, because whatever QPR draw up for Troy will need to be looked at and agreed.”The Championship leaders now look to have won the race to sign Hewitt, who scored against QPR in a pre-season friendly back in August. 20 goals in 30 matches have followed this season, which has seen a huge scramble of interest from football league clubs. Howell added: “He’s very excited – It’s his dream because he wanted to be a professional footballer. “He’s not the player that equalized against QPR back in August. From that day to now he’s just moved on so much.”www.theha1.co.uk/?p=13010

QPR set to sign striker By Jon Batham Feb 21 2011
TROY Hewitt should be a QPR player by tomorrow night.
Rangers boss Neil Warnock made the Harrow Borough striker a contract offer during a second round of talks today and it is expected the deal will be completed in the next 24 hours.
Hewitt has attracted a string of bids from league clubs including Peterborough and Barnet in recent days following 20 goals in all competitions in this his first season at Ryman League level.
However, he appears set to spurn the opportunity of regular first-team football and take a gamble on life with the Championship leaders.
Borough boss David Howell said: “QPR have made Troy an offer and hopefully will be sorted out for him to be signed before tomorrow night’s game against Ipswich.
“So while we are heading to Hornchurch Troy should be becoming a QPR player and I’m delighted for him.”
