I'm not wild about having a Continental system of a Sporting Director/Director of Football bringing in the players and the "manager" just coaching.
But objectively, it's done in many other countries - and at many successful clubs. So obviously with the right people can work.
Can understand why an English manager such as Dowie or Gregory would find it hard to work with. But with De Canio and Sousa, they're used to such a system.
And even having Paladini as Sporting Director could in theory work. If we had scouts bringing the players; the owners staying out of it. And Paladini's job "the selling of the Club" which I presume he's good at. Whether he's good at spotting players - whether that's necessary for the job of Sporting Director is another matter.
But QPR have to got to get a managerial/coaching system in place and stick with it. And there has to be a real partnership with the coach/manager and the Sporting Director/Director of Football. With the coach saying these are the weaknesses of the team. I need a player (this one or that one), go get him. And NOT the Owner or the Sporting Director signing a player cos he "fancies" him - and then insists on the player being played - even if that screws up the coach's system.
The bottom line is that team selection and tactics has to be 100% the province of the coach. And the Sporting Director, and more importantly the onwner has to butt out. Back the coach or sack the coach. Nothing else will work.
