HORNETS TO HAND CUP CASH TO CHARITY IN UNIQUE GESTURE

UNIQUELY in football, we believe, Watford FC will donate its share of the profits on ticket sales from the FA Cup 3rd Round tie against Hartlepool United to Marie Curie Cancer Care (the Football League's official charity for 2010/11).

Hornets' officials agreed the gesture just before Christmas - and to ensure there's definitely money to donate whatever the result, John Eustace and all his team-mates have agreed to waive their appearance fees should the Golden Boys fail to progress.

Therefore, the Saturday January 8 FA Cup tie at home to League 1 Pools has been designated as our 'Marie Curie Match'.

So simply by buying a reduced-price ticket (it's £10 for adults, £5 for concessions for this match), you can be assured that you'll be playing your part in raising what we hope will ultimately be a healthy five-figure sum for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

HORNETS HAUL IN £25K FOR MCCC

Watford Football Club and its fans have raised just short of £25,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care - the Official Charity Partner of The Football League for the 2010/2011 Season - thanks to their FA Cup game against Hartlepool United.
The huge £24,105 total was reached last weekend after the club agreed to donate their gate receipts to the charity, which provides free care to people with a terminal illness in their own homes and the charity's hospices.

An 8,950-strong crowd instantly generated £21,211, whilst over £1,000 came from bucket collections on the day and just under £2,000 was generously donated through the club's Just Giving page.

"Watford and all their supporters raised £24,105.57 in connection with Saturday's match," said Fabian French, Director of Fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"Their generosity will fund the work of a Marie Curie Nurse for over a year - the equivalent to over 1,200 nursing care hours.

"Marie Curie Nurses work in every Football League community across the country, giving terminally ill people the choice of being looked after at home, surrounded by their family and friends.

"The fundraising efforts of Watford and other Football League clubs will go a long way in ensuring that the charity can continue to deliver this free nursing care and support."

The colossal amount rockets Watford straight to the summit of the Football League Marie Curie fundraising league - a table ranking clubs according to how much money they have generated for the partnership.

"The £24,000 will also push Watford to the top of the Marie Curie Football League fundraising league. I would encourage all Football League clubs and fans to follow Watford's example and raise whatever they can this season.
