..I posted this elsewhere and thought I should do so here.
I thought I'd chuck in a little personal experience story of this guy too just for this messageboard....
During the promotion season I worked for Virgin, running the sales department at their Acton Health Club. Twyford Avenue was a nightmare for the team to train at and even worse for the youth. (Lets face it, if you're a 15 year old kid who wants to lift some weights and a wasps player tells you to get off the machine, well, you're going to.) Anyway, I brokered a deal where the first team could use, during the weekdays, the whole health club for free and the youth could use it early Saturday mornings.
So, I had the pleasure of seeing the first team virtually every day for a whole season. It was a bit of an eye opener - seeing who got on, who was a bit of an outsider, who were hard workers (Rose..last to turn up, first to dash off...Kevin Mcleod - complete t*sser, etc)
Paul Furlong was the loveliest, politest, most gentlemanly, honest, professional, hard working player I ever had the pleasure to meet. In fairness Big Dan was an utter gentleman too. It used to make me laugh as these guys were getting paid more in a week than I did in 2 months yet some players would still ask me to let their birds in for free - when it only cost a tenner to bring a guest in etc etc.
Furlong not only paid his way but every single player whether it be the youth kids/girls or first team looked up to him. He was nothing short of a model pro and a tops tops bloke to boot.
Sorry about the rambling but, I feel very very privileged to have met the bloke.
I only wish more footballers - and people in general could be like he was / is..
This is what QPR need
