And this was from the Carlisle Official Site which "inspired" my post Will be very interesting to see what QPR do next season (assuming no promotion), with the global economic situation hurting both the spectators and presumably the QPR owners.
Carlisle Official Site - ATTENDANCE AVERAGE ENCOURAGING
Carlisle United are on target to average more than 6,000 for home league attendances this season - for only the fourth time in more than 30 years.
The credit crunch and a difficult run of results through October and November has inevitably meant crowds are down on last season's level of 7,835, which was the highest since 1976-77.
Carlisle are among 15 League One clubs whose attendances have dropped from last season's figures, according to the latest data released by the Football League. This shows that crowds overall in the division are dropping, with the biggest falls at Yeovil, Sc**thorpe and Hartlepool.
But United are confident that the current average of 6,567 after 14 games can be built on in the remaining nine league fixtures as the team continues to show signs of improving under Greg Abbott. Results and performances have both been on the up following a series of encouraging signings, including recent additions Lewis Neal and Tony Kane.
Managing director John Nixon said: "It was always going to take some doing to match last season's average. We spent virtually the entire season in the top six last season and it gave us our highest average home league crowd for 31 campaigns. Away support at Brunton Park this season has also dropped considerably because of the credit crunch.
"Last season was also the third year on the run we had seen our average attendance increase. But other than back in the 1994-95 promotion campaign, the last three seasons are the only ones that Carlisle United have managed to average home league crowds of more than 6,000 since 1976-77.
"We are certainly proud of the way our supporters have stuck with the club this season, both in terms of having nearly 3,000 season ticket holders and all the other fans to follow us home and away. We think there is still a lot to look forward to this season, starting on Saturday at home to Stockport. That's what we are all working towards. We also usually have higher gates for the last three matches and around Easter every year, so hopefully crowds will pick up as things continue to improve on the pitch."
Last season's average of 7,835 followed 7,793 for 06-07 and 7,218 for 05-06. However, no other seasons have averaged more than 6,000 apart from 7,422 in 94-95, stretching right back to 7,679 in 76-77. During those three decades, average home crowds at Brunton Park had dropped as low as 2,554 in 91-92 and 2,235 in 87-88.
