WRIGHT HOPEFUL OF IMPROVEMENT
RANGERS chairman Chris Wright gave an honest assessment of the company's financial situation whilst addressing shareholders at the Annual Meeting of Loftus Road Plc.
The accounts show a loss of £5 million, which effectively means that Rangers lose £200,000 every home game. Mr Wright said: "The losses have been reduced but they are still substantial. The situation is made worse by the fact that we have not sold any players for nearly two years. We have been a net buyer of players rather than a net seller of players for two seasons.
"I am trying to find someone to come in and help shoulder the financial load with me. It is a very difficult situation. I am basically stretched to the limit of my own resources. I wish I could do more, but it is an absolute physical impossibility. However, I am keeping the club alive and working with Gerry and everybody else to gradually improve the position.
"If somebody comes in who has some money to put into the club, I would accept any role with that person. I would welcome them with open arms. I would be totally amenable to any suggestion, on any basis, of somebody coming into the club to help kick-start us getting out of the situation we are in.
"There are some brighter points on the horizon for the club at present. There is a new TV deal for Division One next season which will increase the payments to clubs from the £600-£700,000 we currently receive to £2-£2.5 million a year. On the rugby side, we are hopeful of a new RFU deal that will provide funding for rugby clubs.
"We want to gradually improve our financial base and improve the playing squad. We can then get to the point where we get into the Premier League and compete when we get there, as Ipswich and Charlton have done."
