Helguson is not 100% fit at the moment due to a dodgy calf. Blackstock is not 100% fit at the moment due to carrying the goal scoring duties on his nonchalant shoulders all season and does need a rest. DiCarmine couldn't hold the ball up if he was allowed to use his hands. Vine and Buzsaky both out long term injuries. So we call back Balanta from Wycombe where he was getting games and so therefore is match fit and send him to Italy to play in a youth tournament! Now I can see how under ideal circumstances that is a good idea as we will surely benefit from the international exposure the tournament would give us for brand QPR and Balanta will make a name for himself out there, but is that more important than the first team? I hope this is not an exercise in Briatore puffing his chest out in Italy, though I can understand why he would want our best youth team player out there when we are playing the likes of Inter Milan, though I feel this decision is detrimental to the first team and that is surely the priority? Can't get my head around this. We need a striker, so we send our best youth prospect off to Italy as the end of the season approaches. Just when we need him and not a premiership reject on loan who really couldn't care less if we are promoted or not, but wants his thousands of pounds a week, which is where I see us heading.

Mark, dont fret. This team is too thin to get promoted. Briatore did probably want to look good in italy. He also wont spend any real hard cash for a goalscorer because his Renault f1 team is in deep money trubs, and that is where his cash and or loans go to shore up.

When Balanta was recalled to play in that tournament there was no indication that either Dex or Heidi were injured. Neither Sousa nor Flav have ever claimed the ability to read the future, as far as I know

London - The squad is to lightweight to certainly contest in the Premiership but there is a very good foundation to build upon, especially now that Sousa is our manager. I would like to see Balanta involved with the first team squad more because since Sousa came in he has been at Wycombe and not been training with the first team and had the benefit of learning from Sousa and therefore is out of step with the new formations and tactics, though I am sure he has the ability to slot right in. With a thin squad and nearing the end of the season it would make more sense to me to have him involved for cover and to gain him more experience.
Dylan - Dex has been struggling with a, I think, back injury since before Christmas due to playing all season and has been dropped to the bench for both tactical reasons and to rest him. Helguson's calf has been a problem for about a week now and when I wrote my original post yesterday, Balanta was still in the country as the youth team do not fly out until Sunday. I am not being nieve nor churlish in my thinking, as you flippantly suggest, to believe that Sousa or Briatore can see in to the future and do not believe to have suggested that either. Neither injury is too serious, though I doubt we will get fully committed 90mins. performances from either until the slight injuries clear up and now would be a good time to play Balanta. He's already been blooded and I see him as having better movement, touch and ability to get in the box than DiCarmine and would pick him before him every time. That is evident on the pitch, as you surely must agree. I do take umbridge with your reply, as you do not need a crystal ball to know players will get injured, especially during this time of the season when muscles are tired and pitches are heavy, with the cold making it more difficult for muscles to recover from knocks on the pitch. You need four strikers to make a serious challenge at the top of the table, in this league and I do not see how the benefits of sending Balanta to Italy to play in a youth tournament supercede that of the first team, especially when we are this tantalizingly close to the play offs. It's not about having 'the ablilty to read the future', it's about good management, which is why I believe this might be a board decision with different interests behind it and it's those interests I am disputing. Valid and worthwhile they may be, the first team should always be the priority.
CPR - thanks, mate. Great news. Will make the drive to Nottingham all the more enjoyable and I hope he is now a permanent first team squad member.
