[Note: Andrew Andronikou is the Portsmouth Administrator]Portsmouth News
Pompey in Lawrence limbo 07 September 2010 By Neil Allen Liam Lawrence's Pompey switch has been plunged into turmoil. But Kanu and Ricardo Rocha were today expected to finally seal their Fratton Park returns. The News understands the Blues are still waiting to receive Football League approval over their deadline-day move for Republic of Ireland international Lawrence. The 28-year-old arrived on the south coast as part of the deal which also saw Dave Kitson join, with Marc Wilson going to Stoke. However, league chiefs are yet to be satisfied the Lawrence side of the deal was completed before their 6pm deadline last Tuesday. It's a claim Pompey strenuously refute, insisting the correct documentation was sent on time. Yet – seven days on – the transfer has still to be ratified, casting doubt whether the midfielder will be recognised as a Blues player in time for the visit of Ipswich. In another twist, Tommy Smith's £1.5m transfer to QPR is also yet to receive the green light from the Football League.Regardless, Andrew Andronikou has revealed the club will look to take Lawrence on loan from the Potters if a permanent deal is thrown out. And he has accused footballing authorities of treating Pompey unfairly. He said: 'The Lawrence deal has not been ratified by the Football League yet and we are still waiting to hear the outcome. 'Unfortunately, we are not Tottenham and are not allowed to have this issue sorted the next day as they did with Rafael Van Der Vaart. 'This sort of thing will only happen to us. There is proper brinkmanship going on just because we are Portsmouth Football Club. 'The whole world knew two weeks before that we wanted this deal to happen. Unfortunately, they have been finding ways of making things difficult to actually push it through. 'From our end, all documentation was sent on time, well before the 6pm deadline. I was there myself to see it. 'Admittedly, the deal happened a little later than we would have liked as the player was training with the Republic of Ireland squad. We haven't even had a chance to give him a medical yet. 'But it was sorted before 6pm, I can tell you. 'The authorities also reckon the Tommy Smith deal to QPR was completed at 6.02pm or something like that.'This puts more work on us but we are determined to see it through, even if we have to get the player on loan instead.' The Football League were unavailable for comment. At least there is good news on the Rocha and Kanu front. The duo have been given Football League permission to sign for the Blues and will be in the frame for Saturday's visit of Ipswich. Rocha, who yesterday trained with his team-mates for the first time during his second Fratton Park spell, is expected to pen a two-year deal. Kanu will sign a three-year deal with provisions to become a coach at the end. Andronikou added: 'We expect the Rocha and Kanu deals to be approved today. 'I expect them both to be available for selection on Saturday against Ipswich.' www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Pompey-in-Lawrence-limbo.6516743.jp

Smith signed a three year contract with us, therefore he would not have been given a squad number nor registered as a pompey scum player. That would be my take on it. If that comment is true, we are being delayed because of two minutes but Arse can sign Arseshavings two days late. The standards they are a doubling!!!

As Martin Samuel said in the Mail yesterday (Re the window and Spurs, etc.) :
"Because the Premier League are facilitators, not regulators, they make it work and wave it through and each window is more chaotic and lawless than the last."

We didn't submit either of our deals through to the FL before the deadline and also managed to balls up the Lee Brown loan deal. The FL ratified the Hulse deal even though it was late. Perhaps they thought another would be taking the piss? Or maybe the clubs are still in negotiation with the FL and it'll go through? Either way we farked up the deals and the communication from the club has been dire. Amateur tin pot shower of shoites.

The League has rejected the Lawrence part of Portsmouth last minute dealingsSoccernet - Pompey hope for Lawrence loanSeptember 7, 2010 Portsmouth are hoping to sign Liam Lawrence on an emergency loan from Stoke after a permanent deal between the two clubs collapsed.Lawrence had been scheduled to join Portsmouth on a permanent transfer as part of the deal that saw Marc Wilson join the Potters with striker David Kitson heading in the opposite direction, but the Football League rejected the part of the deal involving the midfielder, claiming Pompey failed to submit the necessary paperwork before the 6pm deadline. Pompey deny those claims but will now have to lodge a bid with the Football League to take the player on an emergency loan as the transfer window has now closed.Lawrence, who is currently on international duty with Republic of Ireland, has not figured in any of Stoke's fixtures so far this season and is keen to seal the move to ensure that he is playing first-team football. Stoke now hope to loan the 28-year-old to Portsmouth although the move will have to be ratified by the Football League, who will only authorise the deal if they are satisfied that the Championship side need him. "We're disappointed that this transfer hasn't gone through," Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said. "However, it is important that we work with Portsmouth, the player and the authorities to find an expedient solution as if it had gone through. "The aim now is to ensure we arrive at the same point for both clubs and, most importantly, for the player who had made up his mind up to join Portsmouth. "That will probably take the form of a loan move until the end of the year and then Liam would finalise his permanent move to Fratton Park in the January window. Clearly, we will co-operate with Portsmouth, the player and the authorities to arrive at a solution all parties desire." soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=821089&sec=transfers&cc=5901

A cut and paste from Clives latest. some have seen this or maybe it was posted, but I hadnt and it sort of explains things, at least for me.
cial site for the news first and fastest.
Speaking on TalkSport on Sunday Neil Warnock seemed to suggest a problem with the paperwork meant the deal did not go through in time but he seems to still believe Smith is a QPR player and available for selection – possibly on loan until January ahead of a permanent deal then. Warnock said: “Tommy Smith didn’t actually go through, there’s been some problems with paper work apparently, I think as long as you’re from Real Madrid I think you’re ok. I’m sure we’ll sort it out. Against Derby we came up against a system that was very difficult, next time I know what I’ll do to combat that but that was the first time a team has done that to us. With people like Tommy Smith we have different options now.
“Now everybody is signing from the same hymn sheet, which wasn’t always the case. It’s an exciting time - with all the hiccups of last few years and pressures now the fans will get behind us and the club behind the scenes has everyone signing from same hymn sheet. If I do my job and keep us up there the support will come in January. Amit Bhatia is the man I came to the club for and he just supports me. We’ve had a few problems signing players with little complications but we’ve been patient. I don’t think we need an awful lot. I’m quite happy with the squad now, unless we get a ridiculous amount of injuries, I don’t think there are many teams in the Cham

Portsmouth Official Site Statement (NOT re Smith) Portsmouth Football Club Statement Portsmouth Football Club have been notified by the Football League that the permanent transfer of Liam Lawrence from Stoke City has not been authorised because the necessary paperwork was not registered in time on transfer deadline day. Pompey are now working with Stoke and the League and are confident a solution will be found to overcome the administrative issue, meaning Lawrence will still join the club and be available for this weekend’s fixture at home to Ipswich Town. A Pompey spokesman said “It is obviously disappointing that we have had to adjust things but it is now just a paper exercise to make sure we end up in the same place as envisaged. Nothing changes in the sense that Liam is still fully committed to coming to Pompey.” It is anticipated that Lawrence will move on an emergency loan to Fratton Park, ahead of a permanent transfer in January. The transfer of Dave Kitson to Pompey and Marc Wilson to Stoke are unaffected www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Portsmouth-Football-Club-Statement-1335.aspx

Couple of things worth commenting on here...
Mr Andronikou, like many media commentators, seems to confuse the Premier League, Football League and Football Association and then throw them into the same pot, whichever suits the argument best. They are three seperate organisations with differing functions on deadline day.
The FL and PL are completely seperate, so to compare the Van der Vaart and Jacobsen transfers with Portsmouth's coming's and going's is disingenous to say the least.
Secondly, the PL confirmed the Van der Vaart deal when Tottenham and Real Madrid provided the paperwork to show that the deal had been concluded at 17:57 on August 31. So again, not an issue. But because big names are involved and have been seen to "buck the system" - even when it has been proved that they didn't - some football administrators may seem keen to cover their own shortfalls by highlighting, wrongly, the perceived favouritism to others.

QPR were involved with three transfers at the deadline. All three experienced problems...
What do Portsmouth mean when they say re Smith it didn't go through "due to administrative issues outside the Blues’ control. "
