Because the club is its past; not just its future. QPR Report Blog - Wednesday, February 10, 2010 In Search of Ex-QPR Players and Club Staff From the Recent and Distant Past- STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: HELPING EX-QPRS - Every time we hear news of an old QPR player either dying, or in poor health or simply aging as we all do, hear talk about how should do more, keep in touch more, etc. The latest times this occurred was when Mike Keen, the forgotten hero of 1967, died last year. - Meanwhile, Frank Sibley has Parkinsons; Clive Clark is in a nursing home. And presumably other QPR heros are in poor health, etc. And there are obviously countless other former QPR players from decades ago, who are sprinkeled around Britain and the world. So what can be done: Not financially support them, because that may no be practical. But keeping in touch with them; perhaps club bringing them a game. Giving them a little attention. And if the club didn't want to; maybe fans could buy them a ticket. - Probably not that much effort to do; and not costing; but great psychic payback. Because the club is its past; not just its future. If the club should choose to adopt this "issue" that would be fabulous - Former QPR winger, Dave Thomas's comments in his last paragraph of his QPR Net Interview he held last year "...The only thing I’d criticise QPR for these days is how they treat players after they’ve retired. Burnley and Everton are fantastic they’re in touch all the time and always asking you down to be their guest for the day but QPR never do. Burnley do it all the time and considering the difference in resources I think that’s sad..... I look at QPR and what they’ve done for their ex players and it’s nothing at all. I think that’s really sad" QPRNet Feel Free to Discuss or post any information you have (perhaps no emails or contact information should be publicly posted, but would appreciate receiving) If any news or contact information, either please post here on EX-QPRs exqpr.blogspot.com/ , or email qprreport.blogspot.com/2010/02/in-search-of-ex-qpr-players-and-club.html

I agree, both the club and us fans really need to sort this out. Maybe it could be brought up at the next fans meeting if there is time after the lengthy discussions about plumbing in the ladies loos?

Given all those nice comfy but empty blue seats I'd much prefer to see some ex R's sitting there than nobody, wouldn't take a lot would it. Sad to read Dave Thomas' comment.

A year ago, were discussing this. Then a couple months later, came the death of Mike Keen. And there was some board talk of remembering ex-QPRs (and NOT just the big names of Bowles and Francis)...With the death of Harold Winton, yet another reminder of our past, and how the club should be doing more.

I've enquired about this in the past with a few at the club. From setting up a charitable trust to assist ex QPR players who have fallen on hard times and forming an ex QPR players association. Sadly, the club aren't remotely interested.

I have always thought that I one day would see and hear more of our formers players speaking fondly about their time at the club, but according to the issues raised in this thread there may be reasons for it.
I wonder How often Clive Allen and Paul Goddard,Ie speak (fondly? )about us in the media? Not that often I presume. But who can blame them really? Are they invited to do so? Given the the opportunities? It seems like this is far from the case. Bottomline: I hope our owners will show our heroes of the past,Frank Sibley,Paul Goddard,Clive Allen and the other former players who have repesented this family club the respect and attention the aforementioned individuals have deserved. What this club need is unity and the idea of being a family club . I know that The Bhatia family are doing a great deal of community work and Branding efforts in England as well as in India. If you ask me, I like that. It may also "benefit" us in the future. Anyway, I sincerely hope that the Board also will have a look back in history and acknowledge our past in their strive for building a modern club.

Sounds very poor to me , but i dont here much about other clubs and past players and how they are treated ! Anybody have any information about how other Clubs are treating there previous greats ! I,m certain they must get alot more help than we are prepared to offer ?

What it would cost the club or any of it's owners to do such a decent thing for our ex heros would probably equal their lunch tab. Dave thomas is correct and if i ever got priveleged enough to meet my favourite player (Up their with Phil Parkes and Rodney) Then I'd buy him a beer or a meal because he was da man!!

Some may recall that a while back I wrote to Beard suggesting that something should be done for old players generally, particularly but not only those on hard times or who are ill. Guess what the result was? .................................................. no reply, not even an acknowledgement of my letter.
It's called the "I'm alright Jack" syndrome.

Ah but that was the old Philip Beard. You should try again, now that he's said fans should email him with issues

I had a pop at them a couple of weeks ago after an official tweet containing a (poor) video of photographs of former players 2 Feb QPR FC @officialqpr #QPR legends on the walls of the Media Suite #Marsh #Bowles #Venables vine.co/v/b16gDpddYAH 2 Feb Rollercoaster Ranger @rollerranger @officialqpr It is all well and good having their pictures on the walls, but the club needs to do more to honour our former heroes. You can guess the response I got.......
