Pitman’s stock rose further when he grabbed the headlines after bagging a clinical hat-trick in Cherries’ 5-1 demolition of Peterborough on Saturday. The 22-year-old, who netted 28 times to help Cherries clinch promotion last season, instantly proved himself at the next level and soared to the top of the League One goalscorers’ charts. It has emerged that more than 20 Championship and Premier League clubs sent representatives to Dean Court to watch the free-scoring Channel Islander. And with the striker having started the season in eye-catching form - and with the transfer window due to close at the end of the month -speculation surrounding Pitman is sure to mount. Sources close to the Daily Echo suggest Championship clubs Doncaster, Swansea, Watford, Ipswich and QPR are all keen on the Jerseyman. And Premier League new boys Blackpool – whose interest in Pitman was revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo in January – are also still believed to be tracking him. However, when contacted by the Daily Echo earlier today, Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell said the club had not received bids for any of its players. www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/8336212.Cherries__Interest_in_Pitman_hotting_up/

Ian Holloway/Blackpool Blackpool Gazette Pitman in Blackpool for talks 19 August 2010 By Steve Canavan BOURNEMOUTH'S Brett Pitman flew to Blackpool today to meet Ian Holloway after the club's agreed a fee for the hotshot striker. And despite stepping down as chairman, Karl Oyston will play a key role in trying to complete the deal. The 22-year-old will hold talks with Oyston today about personal terms. But Holloway is close to landing a player who smashed 28 goals last season, helping Bournemouth win promotion to League One. The Pool boss has been chasing Pitman since January and will be pleased if he can seal the deal, especially as he is keen to add strikers to his squad. The fee is believed to be £500,000, rising to £800,000 with add-ons. The Seasiders went back in with an improved offer after their initial bid failed. "Yes, we have put a bid in," said Holloway, when asked about the chances of snaring Pitman. "Will it happen? Don't know. "Do I want it to happen? Probably yes. Will other people want him? Yes, so who knows. "It is just a rat race at the minute and we are one of many rats trying to get hold of him." www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/blackpool-football-club/Pitman-in-Blackpool-for-talks.6483013.jp.

Cherries: Pitman Blackpool deal collapses, but second club joins race to sign striker7:00am Saturday 21st August 2010 Exclusive By Ian Wadley » BRETT Pitman has rejected a move to Blackpool but still looks likely to depart Dean Court imminently after another club entered the race to sign him. Chairman Eddie Mitchell last night confirmed that Pitman’s proposed move to the Seasiders had collapsed and that Cherries had yesterday been in discussions with a second, as yet un-named club. Mitchell refused to reveal the interested party and declined to elaborate when quizzed on the situation, although the Echo understands those transfer talks are at an advanced stage. Speaking to the Echo, Mitchell said: “I will confirm that the Blackpool deal is dead in the water. “There’s a lot of interest and, if people can be patient, we should be able to update the situation on Monday.” Echo sources suggest a deal could be close to being finalised for Pitman and, should the homegrown striker exit Dean Court, it would bring to an end a lengthy on-off transfer saga. His prolific goalscoring last term fired the club out of League Two and caught the eye of opposing managers around the country, with a number of Championship clubs believed to have taken note. But interest in the 22-year-old striker intensified this week after a host of top flight and Championship scouts flocked to Dean Court to see him net a clinical hat-trick in the 5-1 victory over Peterborough United. Mitchell did not disclose the club he had been in negotiations with, but the likes of Doncaster Rovers, QPR and Ipswich Town are believed to be Pitman admirers, while fellow second tier clubs Swansea City and Bristol City are known to be on the look-out for attacking reinforcements. A switch to the Championship looks most likely for Pitman after he failed to agree a move to Premier League newcomers Blackpool, who had agreed a deal, believed to have been in the region of £600,000, with Cherries on Wednesday. Pitman flew to the North West on Thursday and underwent a medical, before talks broke down. Despite that, sources close to the Echo suggested that the Seasiders were still keen to revive the deal yesterday and bring Cherries’ top scorer to Bloomfield Road. But their chances of recruiting Pitman last night disappeared after Mitchell confirmed discussions had taken place with another club. • For the latest developments on this story as they unfold, visit bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/8345473.Cherries__Pitman_Blackpool_deal_collapses__but_second_club_joins_race_to_sign_striker/

However, despite agreeing a fee they failed to conclude the deal after being unable to agree personal terms with Pitman. Championship club Bristol City have now made their move and could usurp The Seasiders to the striker's services. Dorset Echo Cherries: Mitchell vows to spend Pitman cash wisely 7:00am Monday 23rd August 2010 Print Email Share Comments(4) By Ian Wadley » CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has indicated he will back Eddie Howe in the transfer market after vowing to spend the club’s potential transfer windfall wisely. Mitchell’s comments come after Brett Pitman’s imminent Dean Court exit moved a step closer over the weekend when the club confirmed an undisclosed fee had been agreed with Bristol City. Subject to a medical today, the 22-year-old is set to seal a switch to Ashton Gate after the clubs reported that personal terms had also been agreed. The Robins swooped for Pitman on Friday and entered negotiations after a proposed move to Blackpool, for a fee believed to be in the region of £600,000, fell through. And while Mitchell remained tight-lipped on the finer details, he did say he felt the City move was better for both the club and Pitman. Reports in the South West suggest the latest package could be worth as much as £800,000, while Internet rumours claim one of Keith Millen’s players could be set to move in the other direction. Asked if any of the proposed transfer money had already been earmarked, Mitchell said: “No, nothing at all. “We’ve got to decide what to do with it as and when the money comes in. We’ve got to spend it wisely or save it.” Mitchell has previously revealed that paying backdated rent to Dean Court landlords Structadene was one of his next targets and he said: “It’s next on our list to make up to date so we’re credible with the landlords. “When the money comes in we’ll look at what our pressing needs are, as well as players, and spend it wisely.” Despite Cherries beginning life without their star striker with an impressive 3-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers, Howe is keen to add to his attacking options, with both Steve Lovell and Steve Fletcher sidelined by injury. And when asked whether he would be keen to help the Cherries boss bolster his resources, Mitchell told the Echo: “Of course I am, that’s what I’m there for, in part of my capacity. “Over the past week or so, we’ve talked considerably about it (new signings). “I think we both knew Brett would be moving up, especially after scoring the hat-trick last Saturday. “And we started to address the situation at the start of last week. “Of course, we’ve got to always look at strengthening our squad, the same as other teams look to strengthen their squads. “We’ve got to keep the pressure on.” He added: “He’s been sold because he wanted to go and play for a club in a higher division that can offer him better prospects, and that’s what we’ve let him do. “I know he was still under contract but I think we owed it to him to let him go on and try his luck a bit further up the leagues.” Should the transfer be completed as expected, it would bring an end to an eventful week of activity surrounding the Jersey-born frontman. Pitman initially looked to be on his way to Premier League Blackpool before that deal collapsed, then the Robins made their move. Ipswich Town, QPR, Swansea City and Doncaster Rovers are among the clubs to have been linked with the highly-rated forward, who is a product of Cherries’ youth set-up www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/8346535.Cherries__Mitchell_vows_to_spend_Pitman_cash_wisely/

Also Jon Stead: Not a bad spending of one million pounds Bristol Evening Post Bristol City set to sign strikers Brett Pitman and Jon Stead BRISTOL City were today set to strengthen their injury-hit attack by completing the double signing of Brett Pitman and Jon Stead for a combined fee of around £1 million. Pitman has already agreed the terms of his move from League One newcomers Bournemouth in a deal thought to be worth £800,000 and will undergo a medical examination in Bristol this morning. Stead, pictured below, is also due at Ashton Gate for talks to finalise his long-awaited switch from Championship rivals Ipswich Town. While City have been pursuing 27-year-old Stead for more than a month, they only declared their interest in Pitman, 22, when his proposed move to Blackpool broke down last Thursday. "I've had a chat with the lad and I don't see there being any issues," said City manager Millen, who met with the Jersey-born striker yesterday. Pitman scored 62 goals in 197 appearances for the Cherries, including a hat-trick in 16 minutes last week against a Peterborough side managed by former City boss Gary Johnson. Millen said: "It is obvious what Brett brings to our squad, because he is a natural goalscorer. Everyone I've spoken to about him says the same thing. "The more players like that you have in your squad, the better you are going to be. You need people who can score goals. "There were other Championship clubs trying to sign him and, if he comes off for us, we will be all the stronger for it. Brett is an up-and-coming goalscorer, one we can work with and improve." Of Stead, Millen said: "There is another transfer that has been agreed, one that has been going on for a few weeks now. "Our interest in Jon Stead has been well-documented in the local press, but there have been reasons why the deal has not gone through sooner. "We've been waiting in a queue caused by the knock-on effect of transfers. Roy Keane is still waiting to bring in strikers at Ipswich and he needed to keep Jon Stead after Connor Wickham was injured and Jon Walters joined Stoke. "It's a case of one club signs someone, another club then signs someone else and we're kept waiting further down the line." Ipswich accepted a bid of around £200,000 for Stead in July, but the player was unable to agree personal terms and held talks with Blackpool instead. Those came to nothing and the 27-year-old striker started the campaign in Town's first team. But he does not feature in Keane's long-term plans and the former Blackburn forward jumped at the chance to move West when City renewed their interest last week. Millen said: "The deal was never dead, it was just delayed. Because he is a good player, there were a lot of other clubs interested and it was an on-going situation. "Ipswich want to bring in other players and Jon is desperate to get settled and know where his future lies. Hopefully, he will be with us on Monday." Stead has a proven track record in the Championship and Millen said: "We've done our homework on him and we think he will be a good personality to have in the changing room, which is vital. "Whereas Brett Pitman is a young and improving player, Jon Stead has that experience we need. He is already the finished article." Given City's performance in Saturday's 3-3 draw against Championship rivals Barnsley at Ashton Gate, Millen may also be in the market for a defender before next week's transfer deadline. "Individually and collectively as a back four and a team, we were not good enough," said Millen, who twice saw his side come from behind to salvage a point. "It was far too easy for Barnsley to come through us and we have a lot of work to do before the next game. "It might have been entertaining for the neutral, but it didn't do a lot for me. On the back of a really strong and disciplined display at Doncaster, this came as a surprise, especially as we had worked all week on the team shape. "There was no desire to defend for the first 20 minutes and it was too easy for the opposition. I told them before the game to go out there are play, but you also need to have some aggression in your defending and we never had that. We'll analyse the video and we definitely won't let it go. You cannot concede three goals every week if you want to be successful and we need to work hard on being solid as a team." Stand-in skipper Cole Skuse left the pitch on a stretcher after seven minutes of Saturday's game and becomes the latest player to join the ranks of the casualty list at City. Millen said: "He's damaged his knee and will have a scan. It doesn't look good when a player is taken off on a stretcher and it looks as though we've lost another one, which is disappointing." www.thisisbristol.co.uk/football/Bristol-City-set-sign-strikers-Brett-Pitman-Jon-Stead/article-2557414-detail/article.html

Blackpool Gazette Striker: Why I snubbed BlackpoolBy Steve Canavan BRETT Pitman says he "picked the club over the league" by deciding to join Championship Bristol City rather than the Seasiders. With Ian Holloway anxious to add more players to his squad before the transfer window closes next Tuesday, striker Pitman's snub is a major blow. And Bristol City have rubbed more salt into the wound by completing the signing of another Pool target, Jon Stead. But it's the failure to land 22-year-old Pitman which is most hurtful. Holloway had been convinced a deal was as good as done after the Seasiders shook hands on a fee with Bournemouth. But the move stalled when Pitman couldn't agree personal terms and Bristol City nipped in with an offer of their own. They agreed a fee of £800,000 and signed the frontman who scored 59 goals in 173 League appearances for the Cherries. Explaining why he chose the second tier to a top-flight club, Pitman said: " I chose Bristol City for a number of reasons. I know those reasons and obviously the manager knows them. This is a club going forward and going places, I feel, and I wanted to be part of that. "Obviously a League One player turning down a Premier League club might cause a bit of reaction but I've picked the club over the league. "Bristol City have plans for a new stadium and they are signing some good players. That is what I want to be part of. "It is nice to stay in the south west, that is one reason I came to the club, but Bristol City are massive. I wanted to play for them." www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/blackpool-football-club/Striker-Why-I-snubbed-Blackpool.6491087.jp
