BRIAN CLARK 1943-2010Posted on: Tue 10 Aug 2010 Bristol City Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former centre-forward Brian Clark who died last night. He was 67. Brian - the son of former great Don Clark - scored 83 goals in 195 league games after signing professional in March 1960. A tall, stylish inside-forward, he made his league debut in April 1961, and spent most of his Bristol City career playing alongside club legend John Atyeo, until joining Huddersfield Town in October 1966. The Bristol-born marksman netted a crucial goal (pictured below) in City's 2-0 win over Oldham in April 1965 which saw the club win promotion to the Second Division under Fred Ford, finishing the season as leading scorer with 24 goals.. He went on to play for Cardiff City - forming a lethal partnership with John Toshack and scoring the winning goal against Real Madrid in a European Cup-Winners Cup quarter-final in 1971. He later had spells with AFC Bournemouth, Millwall and Newport County, before coaching Welsh Premier League sides Maesteg, AFC Cardiff and Bridgend Town. Cardiff Official SiteBRIAN CLARK: DEEPEST RESPECTCardiff City Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of passing of Brian Clark, who died last night, aged 67. Brian will forever remain a true Cardiff City icon following his two spells with the Bluebirds, most prolifically between 1967 and 1972. Brian made a total of 240 appearances in all competition for the club, scoring 91 goals. He also famously scored the winning goal for Cardiff against Real Madrid in the 1971 European Cup Winners Cup quarter-final - one of the club's most famous ever goals. Brian stayed in close contact with Cardiff City following his retirement from football and was a respected and close friend to many. He often co-commentated on games alongside long-time friend Richard Shepherd and regularly made appearances at Ninian Park and Cardiff City Stadium, much to the delight of the home supporters. Cardiff City Football Club offer sincere condolences to Brian's family and will miss our long time friend. Details of his funeral and arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
