QPR plan bid for Blackburn Rovers star Jason Roberts Aug 6 2010 By Paul Warburton QPR are set to make an audacious bid for Premiership star Jason Roberts. The Blackburn Rovers forward has been earmarked as the last jigsaw piece in the Hoops’ picture as the club gets underway in the Championship against Barnsley at home tomorrow. Roberts is a born-and-bred west Londoner, and Rangers have discovered he would not be averse to a move back home as well as the chance to return to the top-flight with Neil Warnock’s new-look outfit next season. The sticking points may be the 32-year-old striker’s wages as well as how much Rovers want for a player in the last year of his contract. Roberts earns around £30,000-a-week, but a deal involving length of contract and bonuses in a successful Rs side would sort out potential problems. Warnock admitted that although he was happy with his backline and midfield, there were still issues over naming his front two in time to face the Tykes. He said: “It’s no secret I’m trying to bring in at least two new forwards ideally, but it’s a question of how much we can afford.” www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2010/08/06/qpr-plan-bid-for-blackburn-rovers-star-jason-roberts-82029-27006499/

Great player, but I did not realise he was 32. Whats the bet he gets a 4 year deal?

Would be a good signing but why are we leaving it until the day before the start of the new season to allegedly be on the verge of signing new forwards?

From Wikpeidia:
In Spring 2007 he founded the Jason Roberts Foundation, which aims "to provide a range of sporting opportunities for children and young people in the UK and Grenada".[15] Roberts comes from a very famous family, his uncles include former footballers Cyrille Regis, Dave Regis, Otis Roberts (a former Grenada international who played in Hong Kong and Belgium). He is also related to Olympic medallist John Regis.[16]
Roberts was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2010 New Years Honours list for his services to sport in Grenada and in London, England. Upon receiving the award he stated in one of Blackburn's match day programme notes that he was humbled to get it and thanks everyone who has supported his charity work.[17]
Can it get any more different from Marlon King. Maybe there is a Karmic thing in here and Warnock is hoping the two will balance each other out.........?

I'd rather Roberts on a 4 year deal at 32 than King on a 5 minute deal.

Why? Agyemang is the same type of player. And he's better. I hate 'chunky' forwards...

Big dave, has the worse first touch I have ever seen in a professional footballer. If his touch was better he would be a decent target man.

If we get Roberts in there's a good chance four more season tickets will be bought. He is a top man, great role model, eloquent and intelligent. He would also muller this division's defences, just get him. KLR will approve, trust me.

Ageymang ?? 3 goals last season wasn't it? The earth stood still. Well, Roberts scored 5. OK, in the Premier League... But Agyemang rarely featured in a starting line-up or even in a game. He's smart and creative and he can take on a defender. Roberts is heavier, slower and more predictable. At least, that's my impression.

Certainly not nervous, Stonebridge lad originally, he's an R ;D seen him on a few programmes and comes across really well, not flash at all. I would say he's faster than you think and Dave could only ever dream of being on a par with him. Dave is very, very much a poor man's Roberts. He's got a soccer school in Stonebridge as well as Grenada and would love to come back home, he may well be happier to make a deal given all the circumstances that suit him. As well as us.

A nickname given to him when he first joined as he didn't have a nickname. For various reasons, it is and it is not in use. Suffice to say, when he was Dave he scored 9 in 8 when he was Patrick he never matched it. ;D

Just read that Roberts is available for £750k.
Now doesn't that figure fit right in with us?
He's a bargain at that price so he must be coming to us!!! ;D

Ageymang ?? 3 goals last season wasn't it? The earth stood still. Not that I think Aggy is good enough to keep, but surely he didn't get that much playtime last year, or did he? As far as I remember mostly on as a sub.

Nothing re QPR specific... Lancashire Telegraph Roberts: It's all over for me at Blackburn Rovers Exclusive By Andy Cryer » Blackburn Rovers reporter JASON Roberts believes he can leave Ewood Park with his head held high after admitting his Blackburn Rovers career is almost certainly over. The powerful striker was left out of Rovers’ double-header in Scotland at the weekend and has now revealed he has come to a ‘mutual decision’ with the club it would be best for all concerned for him to leave. While Rovers are yet to receive any official bids for him, the likes of Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion, Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers and teams from abroad are understood to be sniffing. Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has already admitted the striker is ‘available’ if the right offer comes in and now Roberts himself has confirmed he expects to depart Ewood in the coming weeks. In an exclusive interview with the Lancashire Telegraph, Roberts said: “It looks like I will be leaving the club. "We have had discussions and mutually agreed it is time to move on. “It was decided that I wouldn’t be travelling with the team to Scotland and haven’t been involved in the last few games now. “I have no pre conceived ideas about what will happen next and it would be wrong to talk about anything until there is something officially happening. “Like I said all I can say is we have reached a mutual decision where if there is a chance for me to move on then we would like to take that up. We will have to wait and see what happens.” Roberts arrived at Rovers from Wigan in July 2006 and has scored 22 goals in his 116 appearances, 51 of which though have come from the substitutes bench. Last season he scored five goals in 15 Premier League starts and insists he is ‘comfortable’ with his Rovers contribution over the years. “From my point of view I have had some good years here,” he said. “I have been part of some very good teams and am very comfortable with what I have done here. “I scored five league goals last season and kept a £6million striker out of the team. "There is a perception that I didn’t have a good season last season but I am very comfortable with what I did. “I scored five league goals in 15 starts and think I scored more league goals than all the other strikers put together. "I did that playing on my own up front and so I’m not sure that perception is right.” Roberts’ departure would free up some funds for Sam Allardyce as he continues to wheel and deal in the transfer market ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener against Everton. His absence from the weekend’s games against Celtic and Hearts led some to suggest to a bust-up but Rovers insists everything is still amicable at the club. He said: “If the manager wants to go in a different direction, which it seems he does, then I comfortable with that. "I still feel I have a lot of good years left in me so we will just see what will happen. “There is no problem as such, we have just come to a mutual decision. "If there is the chance to move me on then the manager has said he would like to and I also feel it is maybe time to move on. “You never know what will happen. There is nothing official to say at the moment so we will wait and see. "But like I said I am comfortable with the situation.” www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/8324187.Roberts__It_s_all_over_for_me_at_Blackburn_Rovers/

But no real news here. More a journalist writing I thinkEaling Gazette/Paul Warburton Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts rules out QPR move JASON Roberts has all but priced himself out of a move to QPR. We revealed last week that Rangers boss Neil Warnock had been interested in bringing the Blackburn Rovers striker to Loftus Road. But QPR are unwilling to offer more than a two-year deal to the 32-year-old, who also pickets around £30k-a-week. Michael Chopra is also way down Warnock’s list – and the £4million asking price by Cardiff is likewise straining the Hoops purse strings.www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2010/08/12/blackburn-rovers-striker-jason-roberts-rules-out-qpr-move-82029-27044452/

25 million pound wedding. 4 million pound investment in Chproa to go for a serious promotion push. does the term "tight wads" register with anyone? Considering how little the club have actually had to spend this last summer?? Taarabt on the cheap and Kenny.
