PFA to help ex-Cardiff City players
3 Aug, 10 |
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) will be helping some of Welsh Cardiff City’s former players with obtaining the severance pay due to them, reports Wales online. The club has not paid Tony Capaldi, Aaron Morris, Warren Feeney, Riccy Scimeca, Peter Enckelman and Mark Kennedy the one month severance pay owed to them and so they have sought legal help from the PFA. A PFA spokesperson said, “We are aware of the issues at Cardiff City Football Club and we will offer guidance, assistance and legal representation to all our members.”
The club is scheduled to hold a meeting with current players next week to request them to defer their appearance and bonus money until the end of the season. It is also believed that some players have not been paid their signing on fees which is due every year and all this is contributing to discontent among the players.
Gethin Jenkins, Bluebirds’ chief executive, said: “We have ensured the players and staff have been paid on time as we are committed to do. As from now a large majority of scheduled bonus payments have been paid and the reminder will be completed in the early part of next week. That includes players who have moved on from the club.”
Right now Cardiff City has been placed in a transfer embargo by the Football League and the club is also due in court next month over an unpaid GBP 1.3 million tax bill. Additionally the club owes GBP 500,000 for the last season signing of skipper Mark Hudson from Charlton and GBP 100,000 for the signing of full-back Paul Quinn to Scottish club Motherwell.
