At least this would be an ambitious signing and a decent one at that.

Or maybe Fulham/Birmingham Sunday People Former England under-21 star is Fulham target Aug 15 2010 by Dean Jones, The People FULHAM boss Mark Hughes wants to hijack Birmingham City’s move for Matt Derbyshire. The former England Under-21 striker is out of favour at Greek club Olympiakos and Blues boss Alex McLeish has already made the first move to bring him back to the Premier League on loan. But Hughes, who gave Derbyshire his big break when he was Blackburn boss, could be willing to trump McLeish with an offer of a permanent move to Craven Cottage. It is the second time in a week that Hughes and McLeish have gone head-to-head for a striker, with the new Fulham chief looking like pipping the Blues to sign AZ Alkmaar’s 23-year-old Belgian hitman Moussa Dembele. Hughes wants to bring in at least two senior frontmen to bolster his squad and is also keen on a loan move for Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy. Cult Derbyshire, 24, is another leading target, although Hughes will have to move quickly to head off Birmingham’s interest. Leeds and Portsmouth have also been sniffing around. Derbyshire became one of the few English players to seek his fortune abroad when he left Ewood Park for Olympiakos a couple of seasons ago. He gained cult status by scoring in the 2009 Greek Cup final and also netting the winner against arch rivals Panathinaikos last term. But Derbyshire’s first-team appearances were limited by injury and dodgy form. Meanwhile, crocked Fulham defender Philippe Senderos has had surgery on his ruptured achilles tendon at the same specialist clinic in Finland that treated David Beckham. Senderos’s dad, Julien, said: “He flew to Finland with Fulham’s physio and had an operation on Wednesday evening. He had been afraid beforehand, but he rang me once it was over, and all has gone well. www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2010/08/15/former-england-under-21-star-is-fulham-target-102039-22487577/

If we missed out on Derbyshire and didn't bid for Roberts, why don't we go for Jérémie Aliadière. He said he wasn't against staying in the championship with an ambitious club. I'd love it. Here is profile and interview: www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11096_6277223,00.html

Nile Ranger on loan would tick all the right boxes. Ex Palace. Born in London. Done time in a young offenders institute. Big lump. Scored at this level. Good newspaper headline.

Nile Ranger on loan would tick all the right boxes. Ex Palace. Born in London. Done time in a young offenders institute. Big lump. Scored at this level. Good newspaper headline. Yes, it would be a pretty good signing, but if we've got the opportunity to sign permanently a goalscorer we could build on for the next seasons, it would be better. Maybe we can sign him permanently. No maybe i'm dreaming.
