Damien Delaney is struggling with us.. Yet he is an Irish international. Does he play better for his country??

Maybe playing for QPR is harder than playing for Ireland? Or maybe he's played differently? Or maybe he raises his game?

Hi.
Trappatoni used Delaney a lot just after he started. Delaney was also showing good form at the time under De Canio. When you look at the Irish squad, Kevin Kilbane is the nearest thing we have to a left back, followed by John O'Shea and then Damien Delaney. All three are versatile though and O'Shea usually plays centre half for Ireland. So, I think the logic is that Delaney is a good cover for left back if there's a problem with Kilbane. We don't really have anyone else.
I was at Ireland v Poland (friendly). It was painful to watch. Trappationi doesn't like central midfielders who get forward too much so he tends to pick the likes of Glen Whelan. I think Trappatoni like Miller because he don't make too many mistakes - he does the simple things well. Sunderland didn't exactly take off when they dropped him anyway (not saying that's the cause though - more Roy going loco).
Cheers.
