Summer of 2001 (June 22? 2001)- QPR Official Site QPR land Jackett QPR have pulled off a major coup in securing the services of Kenny Jackett, the former Assistant Manager of Watford. Jackett will work with Ian Holloway in the same role at Loftus Road. David Davies, QPR's Chief Executive, was delighted to confirm the news: "Both Ian Holloway and myself are delighted that Kenny is joining us. He brings with him a great reputation and deep working knowledge of the Nationwide League. Ian has been looking to bring in someone to work with him and we didn't waste any time once we knew Kenny was available. We moved so fast to get him, it hurt! "To bring someone of Kenny's calibre on board is especially pleasing at this difficult time for the club. Bit by bit we are re-evaluating every aspect of our club and rebuilding it. Recruiting Kenny is a significant sign of the progress we are making and an important step for the future of the club." Jackett himself is delighted with the move and is determined to realise the potential he sees at QPR: "Queens Park Rangers is a club with a lot of potential. Its got a good fanbase of passionate supporters, a good stadium and a strong reputation. QPR have always had a reputation for playing attractive football and bringing on their own players. Those are two things that are important to me, as they will be to QPR fans. It's where my strengths are - getting out on the training pitch and bringing the best out of players, developing youngsters and moulding a team that can compete." Rangers are delighted to secure the services of the highly-rated Jackett, who has held the posts of both Manager and Assistant Manager at Vicarage Road. Jackett has an excellent working knowledge of the Nationwide having taken the managerial reins at Watford after they were relegated to Division Two in 1996. The Hornets were competitive under Jackett's charge but poor form at the end of the season saw them slide out of the play-off places. A summer takeover saw a new consortium take charge of Watford with Elton John returning and Graham Taylor resuming direct managerial duties with Jackett as his assistant. Back to back promotions followed, putting Watford straight into the Premiership. When Gianluca Vialli arrived at Vicarage Road and announced his intention to bring in his own back room team, Rangers moved quickly to secure Jackett's services once they learnt of his availability. Jackett's worth was confirmed by outgoing Hornets chief Graham Taylor, who regretted the club's decision to let Jackett and fellow coach Luther Blissett go. Taylor was quoted at the time as saying, 'I'm all for his (Vialli's) appointment but I'm very sad that Kenny Jackett and Luther Blissett haven't had the chance to show what they're capable of.' Followed by Gary Waddock...
QPR Official Site
Waddock named as Centre of Excellence Director
FORMER midfielder Gary Waddock has been appointed as Centre of Excellence Director at QPR.
Waddock, who made more than 200 appearances for the club, worked with the U17 Academy team last season and will now take charge of the youth development programme at Loftus Road.
Waddock, who is an A-qualified UEFA coach, said: "I'm very excited about the challenge. I know this club very well and I'm eager to do well. It's a big challenge for me and one which I am looking forward to."
Article continues Advertisement MPU As has been widely reported, the club will be stepping down from the FA Academy programme and reverting to a Centre of Excellence scheme. However, the youngsters and fans will see few changes off the pitch as many aspects of the Academy will be retained, such as the education programme. The main difference will be a change in opposition. It will be an academy in all but name.
However, Waddock is planning changes on the pitch and is keen to pass on his playing experience to the youngsters.
He said: "This job is not just about having qualifications, but also playing experience. You have to be able to relate to the players the kind of experiences they will have and find themselves in on the field.
"The whole aim of the Centre of Excellence is to gear the youngsters towards playing in the first team. The way they play, systems they use and all other aspects of their coaching should be aimed at success both on and off the field."
Waddock will also be working closely with Bobby Ross who oversees the U9 to U16 schoolboy teams at the club.
Many will remember Waddock the player, but what about Waddock the coach? "I coach the way I play, with enthusiasm," he explained. "Some coaches are shouters and screamers, other are quiet and thoughtful. I think you have to be a bit of everything.
"You need to be a thinker when you are on the touchline or in a training session, but you will also need to fire some players up before a match. Others may need an arm around them. You have to learn how to get the best out of the players and it's my job to do that. This is a job I am really looking forward to."
QPR chief executive David Davies added: "We are delighted that Gary has accepted what will be a very tough challenge over the next few months. Gary is an excellent prospect and I feel that under Ian Holloway and Kenny Jackett he will blossom into an excellent coach. We wish him all the best."

and Tim Breacker
QPR Offical Site - Breacker named as reserve boss
ANOTHER key position in Ian Holloway's backroom team has been filled today with the appointment of former Rangers defender Tim Breacker as the club's new Reserve Team Manager.
Tim joined the club in February 1999 from West Ham and following his retirement from playing and the departure of Des Bulpin last season, he took temporary charge of the reserves for the final few games of the 2000/01 Avon Insurance Combination campaign. The role has now been made permanent and Tim can't wait to get started.
"I am absolutely delighted. I really enjoyed working with Ian last season and I am looking forward to doing so again. Ian is someone I get on with very well - we respect each other's opinions and believe in the same kind of things and when he told me he wanted me on board full time, I jumped at the chance."
Tim has just completed a three-year part-time Sports Science degree and believes that his studies, combined with the experiences of a lengthy career at the top of English football, will enable him to offer plenty to the younger players Rangers will hope to bring through. He is also aware of how important the reserve team will be in the current climate at Loftus Road.
"My degree focused a lot on fitness and I hope I can bring a number of fresh ideas to the role. With the first team squad greatly reduced, the reserve team will play a big part in the progression of this club and we will see a lot more younger players being given their chance.
"Previously, with such a large squad, very few youth team players got the chance to step up another level and prove themselves. But now there will be a much greater emphasis on development and bringing young players through. The reserve team will be more of a natural stepping stone than just a side for first team players to stay fit when they're not getting picked."
"I look back at the people who helped me through my career and I hope I will also be able to help players along and make them better. This a great opportunity to do just that and I'm really excited by it."
No matter what the future holds there is no worse time for a player than when he has to retire and Tim is thankful that he can turn his attention to a new and important role.
He said: "This is the first time in 20 years, I haven't had to think about going back to pre-season training - actually that was quite a relief! It does feel odd though and it will take a while for me to get used to it, but at least I'm doing the next best thing.
"I'm really optimistic about the new season and the prospects for the club in general. At least everything is being overhauled and with a brand new start, the only way is forward. There will have been some very hard decisions made, but they are good decisions and the club will now be leaner and meaner.
"The squad needed to be trimmed anyway and now we can take a good look at some exciting young players - players whose development I can hopefully play a part in."

And Captain Steve Palmer QPR Official Site
Palmer delighted with move NEW QPR signing Steve Palmer found the persuasive powers of Ian Holloway and Kenny Jackett to difficult to turn down when he spoke to the duo about a move to Loftus Road. The defender, who signed from Watford on Tuesday, has started training with his new team and is relishing the challenge of pulling on the QPR shirt - and working with Holloway and Jackett. He said: "Obviously, Kenny is somebody I know really well from my time at Watford. I know Ian as well, I used to play against him. I was very impressed with Ian's ideas and his plans for the club when I met him. Both of them together were very persuasive when I was thinking about joining." Although 33, Cambridge-graduate Palmer wants to continue playing for another five years. "That's all my focus is on at the moment," he said. "The move has happened very quickly and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. I have just finished my UEFA A grade coaching licence and I have worked with the Academy youngsters at Watford, but my main aim at the minute is to play for QPR." Palmer played a pivotal role in Watford's back-to-back promotions from Division 2 to the Premiership and wants to try and repeat it with QPR. He said: "Naturally this is something I want to repeat with QPR. It was a fantastic time to be involved with a football club and something that I want to be involved with again. I've already visited Loftus Road this season and the pitch looks brilliant. We have a great pre-season programme and I can't wait to get out on to the field and pull on a QPR shirt." And .... Day signing completed GOALKEEPER Chris Day has passed his medical and completed his transfer to QPR. The 25-year-old former Watford keeper finalised his switch to Loftus Road this afternoon and is relishing the challenge - starting with Saturday's visit of Celtic. He said: "I'm delighted with the move. I'm from London so I was keen to stay here and it's great to join a club like QPR. With the situation the club is in, players aren't joining to have an easy ride, they are coming here to work hard and fight for the cause - I'm no different. "QPR are in a very similar position as when I joined Watford. They had just been relegated to Division 2 and were undergoing a change of ownership. Within a few years they were in the Premiership. Kenny Jackett, Steve Palmer and I all experienced that at Vicarage Road and there is no reason why that can't happen here at QPR." The form of Alec Chamberlain at Watford meant Day didn't get and extended run in the first team at Watford - although he did make 11 appearances in the Hornets Premiership season which included a man-of-the-match performance in a 1-0 victory at Liverpool. "I'd like to have a good run in the team," said Day. "I've been looking at the QPR websites to see what supporters have thought about me joining the club and there is no better way from me to introduce myself than in front of a full house against Celtic. "I've been very impressed with the facilities at the club and with Ian Holloway. One thing I am looking forward to is having goalkeeping coaching with Tony Roberts which is something I didn't have at Watford. There are some impressive youngsters at the club and having seen Nikki Bull in training, he really looks the part. It's a great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to it."

And the fans did their bit
QPR OFfficial Site - Season ticket sales reach record numbers
QPR have announced record levels of season ticket sales - giving the club a massive boost just weeks before the start of the season.
Last season saw the club reach an all-time high of season ticket holders, and with sales already up on this time last year, the club is on target to break that number once again. Of the sales so far, 11 per cent are new season ticket holders and the club has also seen a surge of sales in family season tickets.
Commercial and marketing director Mark Devlin said: "Season tickets at QPR this season are better value than ever and that has been reflected in the sales so far. Nobody at the club expected the figures to be so high and this proves what fantastic support we have.
"Last season we had a record number of season ticket holders at Loftus Road and with the numbers already bettered on this time last year, we're hopeful of beating that figure - all this despite relegation and the club being in administration.
He added: "The fans are backing the club in difficult times and this news will give a massive boost to Ian Holloway and his team as they prepare for the new season."
Season tickets at QPR this season are better value than ever with fans able to watch all home Nationwide League games from as little as £7.34 per game for adults and £3 per game for juniors. If you still haven't purchased your season ticket, call the box office on 020 8740 2575.

And a few others...
QPR Official Site - Trio complete move to Loftus Road
QPR are set to complete the signing of three new players - Dave McEwen, Terrell Forbes and Mohammed Barr.
Striker McEwen 23, a free transfer from Tottenham, joined Spurs from Dulwich Hamlet but struggled to break into the first team on a regular basis. He made good progress in the Tottenham reserve team last season, producing several fine performances.
His efforts won a call up to the first-team squad and he made three appearances from the subs' bench early in the new year where he was mostly used in a midfield role last term.
Article continues Advertisement MPU Defender Forbes 19, joining from West Ham, made a handful of appearances for QPR reserves on trial towards the end of last season and impressed R's boss Ian Holloway. Unable to break into the first team at Upton Park, Forbes had a spell on loan at Bournemouth the season before last where he made four appearances.
Midfielder Mohammed Barr has been signed from non-league outfit Fisher Athletic.
All three players will be in the QPR squad to face Celtic on Saturday. Fans could also see several trialists in action for the club.
