Football fan banned after Nazi salute on way to QPR Jan 15 2009 By Ellie Dyer Barrie Jones A football fan on his way to a QPR match who gave Nazi salutes at a Shepherd's Bush station has been banned from matches for three years. British Transport Police (BTP) officers secured a football banning order against Barrie Jones, 48, of Glamorgan, Wales, at West London Magistrates’ Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment. The Cardiff City fan had been travelling to Loftus Road for a Queen's Park Rangers match last November when shoved a police officer and gave the well-known Heil Hitler salute while walking through Wood Lane tube. He was arrested, and spent the match in the cells. While languishing in the lock-up, his team lost 1-0 to QPR. The ban means that Jones cannot attend any football match in London or the rest of England and Wales until January 2012. Under the terms of the order, Jones is also prohibited from entering any stadium in England or Wales where a football match is taking place. He can also be required to surrender his passport when Cardiff City or the Welsh national team are playing abroad. PC TJ Treacy, of BTP’s Football Intelligence Unit, said: "The majority of football fans are law-abiding citizens but there is, however, nearly always a minority who seem determined to spoil a good day of sport and who by virtue of their behaviour bring the game and the notion of being a supporter into disrepute. "Our message to football fans is to enjoy yourself but be respectful of others because we will not tolerate abusive or violent behaviour on the railway. "If people choose to behave this way they will be proactively dealt with and we will work with football clubs to seek football banning orders." If Jones is found in breach of his order he faces up to six months in jail and a maximum fine of £5,000. www.londoninformer.co.uk/london-news/london-local-news/2009/01/15/football-fan-banned-after-nazi-salute-on-way-to-qpr-113489-22699514/

If it was a QPR fan doing this, I'm sure he'd have his defenders!

I think you are wrong, I very much doubt any Rangers fan would do that let alone defend it.

.....I BET YOU WOULD HAVE LOVED IT TO BE A QPR FAN? - Now why I would have wanted that? Welcome QPR Nuts. We've dialogued before on WATRB. (I'm afraid if you want to respond, you're going to have register again. It wasn't necessary to deregister after posting!)

Report - one of the reasons why I post here and not on some other boards is so I can avoid what I term as 'idiots'. The type of poster that, though probably wouldn't defend those childish actions, would sympathise and look to start an argument with someone who voiced offence and a different opinion to their own. This message board currently does not have that type of 'idiot'. Please do not bait them into coming on here with posts such as the one above (2nd one down). That is only going to give them an excuse to turn the caps lock on and start looking for a cyber fight. Hopefully this messageboard can and will do better than that.

Thanks markqpr. Something for me to think about. As I posted yesterday (And was serious about): "...And hopefully, to learn from mistakes - as I've made at least a couple in my postings. I've made more than one already, but I hope to learn. All advice (public or private) is welcomed. Can't swear to always take it; but certainly would like to hear it - even if it might not make me happy to read..." qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1147

Wa that post from a guest or did he de-register? What is de-register? Didn't know you could do that. Change it so only you can de-register posters and don't allow guests.
I thank you ;D

I'm not sure re de register. I presume you just sign up. And then quit. (Not quite sure why you want to do that!)
I have no idea if there's anyway to prevent that. And not sure one would want to. But I will check.
But definltely no guest postings. As far as I'm aware, there's only one QPR messageboard that permits guests to post.
The advantage to guest posting is obvious: More likely to post.
But the disadvantage is also obvious. No "accountability" re a poster. And that's why no one else permits it.

Only askes as you said he deregisted after posting, which made no sense to me. Hence my question and observation. Glad there's no guest posting allowed, obvious reasons as you say. His (her) post looks like a guest one though.

And another "match" reportSouth Wales Echo/Katie Norman - January 17, 2009 - Banned from football for taunting police with Nazi saluteA CARDIFF City fan has been banned from all football grounds in England and Wales for three years after taunting police officers with a Nazi salute. Barrie Jones, 48, of Main Street, Barry, is forbidden from entering any Welsh or English stadium while a football match is taking place after he shoved an officer and gave the Nazi salute at London’s Wood Lane tube station before the Bluebirds’ away clash with Queen’s Park Rangers in November. British Transport Police (BTP) officers have now secured a football banning order against Jones after he admitted racially aggravated harassment at West London Magistrates’ Court. Jones, who works as a courier, must also surrender his passport when Cardiff City or the Welsh national team are playing abroad. PC Thomas Treacy, of BTP’s Football Intelligence Unit, said Jones had been part of a large group of City supporters who were travelling to the match at Loftus Road. He said: “QPR won the game 1-0 but Jones spent the game in a police cell after he was arrested for shoving a police officer and giving Nazi salutes at Wood Lane before the match.” PC Treacy said Jones was among a minority of football fans who “bring the game and the notion of being a supporter into disrepute”. He added: “Our message to football fans is to enjoy yourself but be respectful of others because we will not tolerate abusive or violent behaviour on the railway. “If people choose to behave this way they will be proactively dealt with and we will work with football clubs to seek football banning orders.” If Jones breaches his ban he could face up to six months in jail and a possible fine of up to £5,000. Howard Collins, chief operating officer of the London Underground, said: “Millions of passengers from all walks of life, travel on our tube network everyday and Jones’ behaviour was not only aggressive to a BTP officer but extremely offensive to his fellow travellers. “We take any violence that takes place on our network very seriously and we will always work hard to identify suspects and bring them to justice.” No-one at Cardiff City was available for comment. www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2009/01/17/banned-from-football-for-taunting-police-with-nazi-salute-91466-22712052/

Chances are if he haddn't 'shoved' the police man then he would have been ok, I think the salute bit is thrown in to appease. Neither are right and both deserve action but from all I have witnessed I suspect what got him nicked was the shoving!

Report, I think you are spot on that if this had happened at QPR there would have been some idiots willing to defend the bloke.
I am glad they threw the book at him. I am glad he was banned. But most of all, I am glad he wasn't a QPR fan!!!

Why assume that any QPR fan would defend him? Very strange belief in my opinion.
