QPR Finish 4th from Bottom...Winnless in Last 11 Games...
After winning 2 out of his first 3 games, Garry Waddock's QPR finished winnless in their final 11 games, taking 5 points from those 11 games....with 1 point from final 7 games. Their last win was at the end of February. Waddock picked up 11 points from 14 games...

So what did Paladini do: Appoint Waddock as Manager permanently...

Then a few months later, axed him... (Made him Assistant Manager...Then a month later, he departed)

Reading players celebrate Dave Kitson's opening goal
Graeme Murty's late penalty helped Championship champions Reading set a new league points record of 106.
Murty's strike - only his second goal in 280 Reading appearances - ensured the Royals topped Sunderland's previous record of 105 in the 1998-99 season.

The Royals led thanks to Dave Kitson's 40th-minute tap-in after John Oster cut the ball back across the six-yard box.

Paul Furlong's drive on 72 minutes made it 1-1, but Murty secured the win with Reading's 99th goal of the season.

It was the 31-year-old club captain's first goal of the season and ended his record of being the only regular outfield starter yet to score for Reading during this campaign.

Reading fans were in celebratory mood from the start at the Madejski stadium, knowing that the club was on the verge of setting a new record for points - and just three goals short of a century.

They seemed to be on the way to achieving both goals when Kitson netted his 22nd goal of the season five minutes before the break for Steve Coppell's men.

Rangers' 25-year-old veteran Furlong looked to have spoiled the party somewhat, however, when he popped up with a smart finish to level with 18 minutes remaining.

But Murty's rare goal sparked wild celebrations in the stands and from his team-mates.

Reading manager Steve Coppell:
"You spend your life in football working for moments like this.
"It's true we fell one short of achieving 100 goals for the season but that's not really going to spoil my break when I am sitting on the beach and sinking a few beers.

"What I will reflect on is collecting the trophy on the pitch in front of the home fans. That really topped the season off."

QPR acting manager Gary Waddock:
"We decided to have a go at Reading and see how they coped with us.
"It will have been a good experience for our younger players.

"I'm planning for next season, somebody has to do it, but you will have to ask the chairman if I'll be the manager."

'RELAX - IT'S THE KEY TO SURVIVAL'

A laid back approach to pressure has been the key to the Blues late season revival and boss Gary Waddock is looking for the same relaxed attitude from his players in Saturday's must-win game at Leyton Orient.

Waddock told wwfc.com: "The boys have dealt with the pressure really well. They could have been forgiven for being nervous, but we haven't seen any sign of it. They've gone into games, performed extremely well and shown good composure on the ball.

"Saturday might be tense for Leyton Orient, but its business as usual for us. We know we have to win the game, but we've had that situation for the last four or five matches and we'll approach Saturday in the same manner."

Three successive wins and last week's draw with highly flying Swindon Town have given the Blues a chance of League One survival, but Waddock knows that his team's fate is out of their hands.

"We know what we need to do," he said. "We have to win at Orient and look at other results after the game. It means nothing if we don't win, but I'm sure we'll be keeping an eye on the other scores.

"We've got nothing to lose and it's been like that for the last few games. Everyone had written us off a few weeks ago, but all credit to the players - they've gone out and performed and we've had some really good results. We're in a position where, if we win on Saturday and results go our way, we could go into the last game of the season with everything to play for."

And Waddock delivered this rallying call to his players: "Go out there and be positive. Orient also need the points so I'm sure their fans will be nervous and worried, but we're looking forward to it."

Although he has a long list of players who'll be out of contract in the summer, the Wanderers boss is refusing to look too far ahead: "Nothing will be discussed until after the Gillingham game, but the players have done extremely well recently and we'll take that into account.

"I was clear anyway with what I was going to do, but we must wait and see what division we're in and make decisions after the Gillingham game."

Waddock appointed as QPR manager

Gary Waddock has been appointed QPR manager on a full-time basis.
The 44-year-old has been in temporary charge since Ian Holloway was put on gardening leave on 6 February.

Holloway, however, has now been appointed manager of Plymouth, meaning the assistant boss can now officially take over as manager.

He told the club website: "I am delighted that QPR have finally been able to officially announce my position as first-team manager."

He added: "I've got a great backroom staff and we've been planning the coming season all summer.

"The work ethic and training methods will be subjected to a complete overhaul and we're looking forward to seeing the results on the pitch."
