THE dream strike combination of Paul Mariner and Tommy Tynan has been struck by a nightmare injury.
Shockwaves are still resonating through Home Park as news that a back injury has ruled Paul out of Monday's legendary clash with Liverpool.
Argyle's head coach was due to line-up alongside Tommy and other Green greats for the game at Home Park between a team of Argyle Legends and their Liverpool counterparts.
MPU "I am gutted," said Paul. "I was looking forward to showing the Green Army that I can score more goals than Tommy, especially if I never pass the ball to him.
"I will still be at the game, but my role has been reduced to that of spectator, although I will be asking the lads to still not pass to Tommy!"
A stretch forward during his coaching duties has ruptured an aging muscle in a back that has taken more defensive budges than most.
Medical experts have been called in from Germany, Finland and the Yemen in a desperate bid to restore Paul's fitness for the game.
David Beckham's surgeon has abandoned his treatment of the former England captain to focus on Paul, but, sadly, to no avail.
Despite pleas from the United Nations and Gordon Brown offering to postpone the General Election, Paul has insisted that the game go ahead without his twinkling toes performing a merry dance on the hallowed Green turf.
