Football League - BEAN THE BEST IN LEAGUE 2
- Brentford midfielder Marcus Bean has won the December Powerade Player of the Month Award in Coca-Cola League 2.
Marcus Bean produced a string of fine performances in December, netting three goals to help the Bees achieve three wins and a draw from their four league fixtures.
Bean began the month by bagging the first goal in a thrilling finish to the 2-1 victory against Bradford City, before helping to secure a solid point at Gillingham. His goal-scoring form continued with a brace against Bournemouth before an away win at Exeter City rounded off an impressive unbeaten month for the Bees, which leaves them challenging for top spot in Coca-Cola League Two.
Also short-listed for the December award were Kirk Hudson of Aldershot Town, Paul Benson of Dagenham & Redbridge and Macclesfield Town's Martin Gritton (now Chesterfield).
Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said:
"Marcus Bean has enjoyed an outstanding month for Brentford. He has chipped in with some vital goals, most notably with his double helping to secure all three points against Bournemouth. His attacking displays from midfield are proving a valuable asset to Andy Scott's side as they continue to keep pace with Wycombe at the top of League 2."
Stephen Hunt of Reading won the award in the Championship and Matt Fryatt of Leicester City landed the League 1 accolade.
The Powerade Awards panel, chaired by Sky Sports pundit and Coca-Cola Ambassador Chris Kamara, made the decision. The panel also includes Steve Bates, Chairman of the Football Writers' Association, Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain."
