Deja vu. Not clear from this how the alarm was started. Nor was in the middle of the night.
Football 365 CHELSEA DISRUPTED BY FIRE ALARM
Chelsea's preparations for their vital Barclays Premier League clash against Manchester United were interrupted by a hotel fire alarm early this morning.
Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, his backroom staff, players and other hotel guests were all evacuated from their Manchester hotel when the alarm was raised at 0700 GMT.
The entire Chelsea squad was kept outside while the local fire brigade made certain the hotel was safe.
Fire officers searched the hotel floors to ensure it was safe to return and the Chelsea players spent around 50 minutes outside and in the lobby before being allowed to go back to their rooms.
Chelsea face United at Old Trafford this afternoon knowing a victory will leave them just one point behind leaders Liverpool at the top of the table.

Square Football | Main | Chelsea - Jan 2009 Transfer Window Week Two ยป Monday, 12 January 2009 Chelsea fire alarm mystery The Sun today believes that it has solved the mystery fire alarm that woke up the Chelsea team in the Radisson Edwardian hotel in Manchester at 7am and forced them to spend 40 minutes shivering outside waiting for the all clear. The Sun believes Argentina manager Diego Maradona set off the fire alarm by puffing on a Havana cigar - which sounds funny enough to be true. This report will at least avoid the kind of conspiracy theories that tend to multiply in circumstances like this. The idea that a United fan (or maybe even someone more official) could deliberately try to disturb the Chelsea players is an easy assumption to make; but it does beg the question about what time the players were planning to rise in any event. Most teams try to get their players to load up with specific foods in the morning to maximise the energy release for the match time, so I would guess that a 7am 'alarm call' would not be a killer. Better to time the alarm for say 4am, after the group game of Fifa 09 - or Texas Hold-Em has finished, but deep into core sleep hours. The disruption of players ahead of a big match has happened on many occasions - with Champions' League finals regularly targeted. But perhaps the biggest conspiracy of recent years in England was three years ago, when Spurs needed a win to finish fourth ahead of Arsenal - only for a number of players to go down with suspected food poisoning within hours of the match. Arsenal won, Spurs didn't and to this day many Tottenham fans remain convinced that there was foul play involved. No such mystery for Chelsea regarding the fire alarm, the only real mystery of the day was, where did Chelsea find so many body-doubles at short notice to replace the team ahead of the 4pm kick-off? articles.squarefootball.net/squarefootball/2009/01/chelsea-fire-alarm-mystery.html.

Maradonn'a cigar is correct.
Nothing to do with Sam Hamman's minder.
