So who do you think was the most underrated QPR player of the modern era?
To open the ledger, I'm going to suggest Leighton James -- a superb player who is never mentioned when the greats are discussed. Of course, that might be because he only stayed at QPR for a year or two, or then again, it might be because the boyo was Welsh. Who knows?
Anyhow, who is your candidate?

David Bardsley was a very good player who rarely gets a mention nowadays.

Mick Leach, for one. And he had the extra burden of being "most hated" and subject to abuse - before he finally won them over.

Danny Maddix gave 101% and got little credit.

Avoiding the temptation to select a player from the many classic teams between 1967 and 1987, I suggest, unintentionally poetically..
Put down a marker For Simon Barker
At the centre of a QPR midfield whose football was close to poetry itself
In fact, is this the most underrated QPR Team ? Start a thread someone...

Peter Hucker. David Bardsley. Ian Gillard.
I know thats 3, but they never get a mention and when I think of great players over the past 30 years those 3 always come to mind.
Gary Waddock, as a player, was always underrated as well.

Not sure I'd consider Waddock as underrated -- but that is probably a personal bias as he was definitely one of my personal favorites and has had plenty of exposure (not all the right kind, of course) recently. Good call with Hucker. We have had so many great keepers through the years that he definitely gets overlooked.

Simon Barker isn't a bad shout but it is without doubt Mick Leach.
Hucker, Bardsley and Gillard underrated.....who by exactly?
Niether was Waddock, Venables talked him out of a move to United so hardly!!!

I'm answering the question from an historical perspective. I feel that with those 3 players, whilst at the time were quite rightly highly regarded, over the years since have faded from the memory of some fans whilst players like Ferdinand, MacDonald (both correctly), Gallen and Sinclair (both wrongly) are seen as Rangers legends over them and therefore they hardly get a mention. In our minds they are seen as legends of course, we are QPR. We have so much to say about our memories of QPR that we can't keep it to ourselves and join message boards to get it out of our heads, in the hope of discussion with fellow aflictees. Of course it's a personal bias, it's my personal opinion, and I very rarely agree with the status quo over anything!
Wayne Fereday as well gets a mention in my book.

Yeah, but Fereday's mustache .... hmmmm .... also bear in mind he went on the have a very successful career staring in bad 1970s pornos!!!
... on the other hand, he did score in the Cup Final!

I think your getting Wayne Fereday mixed up with Terry Fenwick. Policeman to Stainrod, Bob Hazel knods it on and Fenwick heads it past Clemence. The set piece ploy works again!
