So what happened to the press documented £700K?
Obviously, I am ignoring those two particular links.
Are scott and pete more informed than the kilburn times then?

I obviously don't know their source. But guessing, I'd imagine that the person who told Scott and Pete WOULD be in a position to know the facts re the transfer fee.
Now whether this person actually told the truth; the whole truth; and nothing but the truth, have no idea. I doubt that Scott and Pete were shown a xerox of a cheque.
But it's kind of nice: This way can get the story out of a low transfer fee, without accountability. Anyway, will be interesting if Dave McIntre and Ben Kosky and perhaps some Coventry sources report the same.

No offence Scott but if an old gossip like yourself is privy to official documents then someone at the club/agents is a liability and should be tinned on the spot. I guess it's lucky you haven't pee'd off anyone who'd jump at the chance of dropping you in it eh!

Does it matter what he costs. someone in organization wanted him. Now play him or loan him. my mystery forever is why Gorkss was the event of the summer signings. The drama went on and on. Then he sat and watched until Nov. Now he is the perpetual man of the match. Ah the mystery of it all. Perhaps thats what keeps us going.

As you noted elsewhere, Coventry Telegraph
Coventry City's Borrowdale in £500,000 move to QPR Jan 5 2009 By Andy Turner
IT HAS to go down as one of the most baffling transfers in recent memory - Gary Borrowdale to Queens Park Rangers for what is believed to be £500,000.
IT HAS to go down as one of the most baffling transfers in recent memory - Gary Borrowdale to QPR for what is believed to be £500,000.
What’s so strange about that, I hear you ask? Well, given the fact that the Coventry City misfit has not yet kicked a ball for the Hoops despite having been there on loan for a month, his move to Loftus Road seems bizarre to say the least.
Surplus to requirement under Chris Coleman, the Sky Blues clearly snapped billionaire owners Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, and Lakshmi Mittal’s hands off when off when they offered to reimburse the majority of the £650,000 they shelled out for the former Crystal Palace left-back who managed just 26 appearances for City.
That is no doubt small change for the second richest club in England, and a great bit of business from Coventry, but it remains a mystery why the club would buy a player, and give him a three and a half year deal, when he has been with them for a month and not even been used as a substitute.
Word has it that manager Paulo Souza has even played people out of position rather than play Borrowdale who, unfortunately, is not expected to feature in Saturday’s match against his former club.
It is not even as if he has been out injured, leaving the only conclusion that his early career reputation when he was close to an England under-21 call goes before him. He can’t have been pulling up any trees in training because he would no doubt have been used by now.
Brought to Coventry by Iain Dowie, it is almost as if Rangers are still working from his shopping list, given that they have just taken another of Dowie’s former players, Wayne Routledge, and are rumoured, and I stress only rumoured, to be interested in Jay Tabb who was a big favourite of the former manager.
But hats off to Coventry if they have managed to get virtually their money back on the player who, like many acquisitions in recent years, promised so much and delivered so little.

From Ben Kosky/Kilburn Times today"... Rangers forked out a fee in the region of £500,000 for Routledge, 24 - but are believed to have spent MORE on Borrowdale, whose loan from Coventry became permanent last week. The left-back followed his former Palace boss Iain Dowie to the Ricoh Arena 18 months ago, but Dowie's successor Chris Coleman made it clear that Borrowdale was not in his plans. - Dowie was keen to bring Borrowdale to QPR during his brief spell in charge and, curiously, the club went ahead with the deal - despite sacking Dowie and then not using the player at all during his loan spell.- " It all came out of the blue and I'm not 100 per cent sure about how the move was all sorted out," Borrowdale admitted. "But I knew it was always going to be made permanent when the transfer window opened.-"I'm delighted to be back in London with a massive club and now I've got to do my best to feature in the first team. We've been playing really well, so that's going to be a challenge. - "I went on loan to Colchester and, after being frozen out at Coventry, that's the only football I've had, so it's taken me time to build up my fitness. - "It's a while since I've been enjoying my football, but this is a new year and it's like a fresh start for me too." - Borrowdale played a full 90 minutes for Rangers' reserves in their 2-0 win over Charlton on Tuesday, but is unlikely to feature against his former club this weekend. www.kilburntimes.co.uk/content/camden/kilburntimes/QPR/story.aspx?brand=KLBTOnline&category=QPRNews&tBrand=KLBTOnline&tCategory=defaultQPR&itemid=WeED07%20Jan%202009%2015%3A09%3A14%3A633

And as noted on the dot.org, Paul Warburton/London Informer is pricing Borrowdale at around 125k. Wayne Routledge debut for QPR Jan 9 2009 By Paul Warburton /London Informer QPR are ready to hand a debut to Wayne Routledge when the Hoops take on Coventry City tomorrow at Loftus Road. The £300,000 signing from Aston Villa is expected to take a slot on the right wing, with Lee Cook on the left of a four man-midfield. Gary Borrowdale is also set to feature in the squad against his former club after coming through a win in the reserves against Charlton on Tuesday. The left-sided defender was a bargain capture from the Sky Blues for a fee in the region of £125,000. www.londoninformer.co.uk/london-sport/london-football/london-qpr/2009/01/09/wayne-routledge-debut-for-qpr-113489-22656133/

Even if the fee was 100K rather than the much higher alleged figure, what explains the three and a half year contract we gave him? Are we afraid someone is going to steal him from us?

Everybody seems to be getting those cushy contracts don't they?
Also contract extensions we know nothing about, Camp and Stewart for example.
