The Argus/Howard Griggs Ex-Albion captain Cullip is forced to retireSaturday 6th March 2010 Former Albion skipper Danny Cullip has been forced to retire. The Lewes defender has admitted defeat in his battle to recover from a long-term hamstring injury. Cullip has not played since last August and has now come to an agreement over the remainder of his contract which expires this summer. The 33-year-old made a total of 358 league appearances for Fulham, Brentford, Albion, Sheffield United, Watford, Nottingham Forest, QPR and Gillingham before dropping down into non-league to sign for Lewes in July 2008. His greatest time came with the Seagulls, who he helped to three promotions, including skippering the side to play-off victory over Bristol City at the Millennium Stadium in 2004. Cullip suffered the injury playing for Lewes in a 2-2 draw away to Newport County on August 15 last year. He said: “I have had to retire through injury. I can’t play to any standard. The hamstring is detached and won’t reattach itself. There is no surgery to sort it. “I have seen a specialist in London and exhausted every avenue possible. They have all come to the same conclusion.” www.theargus.co.uk/sport/argusgeneralsportsnews/5045445.Ex_Albion_captain_Cullip_is_forced_to_retire/

One of the worst defenders ever seen at Loftus Rd. He overcame his footballing shortcoming by being one of the best pointers / arm flailers I've ever seen, purely to deflect his own inadequacies of pace, power and perception by shouting and telling everyone else what they should be doing. He did try though and came to the club when we were so skint he must have been playing for two bob a week !
