BASSO LEAVES ASHTON GATE
Posted on: Fri 05 Mar 2010
City have today terminated the contract of Adriano Basso.
The move allows the Brazilian goalkeeper to explore other opportunities and is within the best interests of both parties.
Chairman Steve Lansdown told bcfc.co.uk: "Adriano has been a great servant to the club over the last few years and was a key part in our promotion in 2007.
"I'd like to place on record my thanks to Adriano for his service and wish him well for the future."
Adriano made 182 appearances for the club since signing on a free transfer in 2005.
In his own statement, Adriano writes: "Life, it's all about making somebody's life better, adding new values, having a purpose and knowing how to achieve it.
"God has given a purpose to my life. So, when I came to Bristol City I came to fulfill this purpose, that is: make a difference, do something better, add value to the club, to the players and to the supporters, but this was only possible because somebody believed in me (Peter Johnson).
"So, I'm very grateful to the manager Gary Johnson and assistant manager Keith Millen who gave me the opportunity to show who I am as a player and as a person bringing the best out of people, making them "ALWAYS BELIEVE" that they can achieve something good, that they can fulfill their dreams and ambitions.
"Specially also I'd like to show my gratitude to the chairman Steve Lansdown, to the President of the club Marina Dolman, to my goalkeeping coach Stuart Naylor and all the players that always, behind the scenes, were supporting me, adding special values to my life.
"'Ooooooo Bassoooo', 'Ooooooo Bassoooooo' definitely will follow me everywhere I go. To the supporters, I'd like to say: "I'm tremendously blessed for being supported by all of you all these years. Thank you for your special way to express love, care and support.
"I wish that God may give to this club wisdom to achieve their ambition. GOD bless you Adriano Basso!"
