Supposedly Hart wanted him gone. Briatore didn't... Alberti stayed

Volz is not the type of player we should be entertaining in our reserves with a prospect of buying him. Under the old regime of Flabio Briatore I understood the purse strings had been cut, money raised from tickets and sponsorship had been wasted by Flabio's failings both as a chairman and as a man and was perpared under that circumstance to accept Volz, but if I am to believe the latest incumbents rhetoric of taking the club forward, I have to ask why are we still looking at a premiership reject who is struggling to come back from injury? Fair play to Volz but as a club changing tact and moving forward, this seems to be a look at an aging, cheap and injured player along the old familiar lines of Helguson, Bent, Priskin & Quashie to name more recent examples and definately not one for the future. Has change really occured, am I reading to much into this or is this a sign of the clubs actual intent, otherwise what other reason have we for playing Volz?

Because right-back needs strengthening. Ramage is honest and I feel for him because he seems like a decent lad but his performances have not been good enough for Championship level. Leigertwood's flexibility is his own worse enemy. There are very few players who can play multiple positions with the utmost ability in all of them and sadly Legs falls into the jack-of-all-trades master of none category. Connolly does not look comfortable at right-back.
So if we need a right-back then our options are sparse. The transfer window is closed. I do not know the situation regarding getting in yet another loan player but we must be hovering near some kind of loan limit by now. Because Volz is a free agent he is one of the only options for strengthening the right-back position. He is only 27 so not really past it as long as he has overcome the injury.
So taking into account what you said MarkQPR I believe a pay as you play deal until the end of the season would be fairest for both parties with an option to offer a proper 2 year deal after that assuming he proves he can still compete at this level.

Thanks Blatant, that makes lot of sense actually and I'm surprised he's only 27.
Good luck to him and a pay as you play contract is a good idea as well.

Interesting to note that Volz now appears under "Trialist". I seem to remember he didn't before...
