Yorkshire Post Rovers not dreaming of promotion – O'Driscoll 18 February 2010 DONCASTER ROVERS manager Sean O'Driscoll is still playing down talk of promotion – despite steering the club to record breaking new heights. Rovers are now 10th in the Championship table and have never been higher in their 131-year history. Significantly, they also have two games in hand over the next three clubs – Middlesbrough, Blackpool and Sheffield United – and victories in those games could lift the club to seventh in the Championship. After watching his side complete a first-ever league double over big city neighbours Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, O' Driscoll maintained his view that 'survival' is still the only priority this season. "We are determined to stay in this division, that is our main motivation, and that result moved us a step closer," he said. "When we play well and get beat, we have to lift the players' confidence. When we play really well and win, we have to make sure they don't get complacent. "We try to get the best out of the players we have got," he added. "We also try to take results out of the equation so everything is about 'can you do the right things at the right time?' Everything we do is about 'performance'." O'Driscoll has already re-written the record books by leading Rovers to Wembley and the Millennium Stadium during his three-and-a-half-year reign as manager and, two summers ago, secured the promotion that ended the club's 50-year absence from the second tier of English football. The club's attractive style of football has also won many admirers – including Wednesday manager Alan Irvine. While Irvine's team are still locked firmly in a battle against relegation to League One, Irvine thinks that play-off qualification is not out of the question for Rovers. Speaking after his side's 2-0 defeat to Rovers at Hillsborough, Irvine said: "Their style of football is the kind of football that I like watching. They are a good team and Sean's done a really good job. "If it was all down to the style of football, they would certainly be one of the contenders – but it is a very difficult division," he added. "However, if they maintain this kind of form, they have a chance of getting enough points to make the play-offs but they are behind quite a lot of teams who will also think they can get there too." Ironically, Rovers could do the Owls a favour this weekend by winning at Queens Park Rangers, who are also involved in the relegation scrap. The Owls, meanwhile, host another club who are fighting for their lives in the shape of Ipswich Town. Goalkeeper Lee Grant is confident that the Owls will bounce back against the Tractor Boys after suffering the first real disappointment since Irvine's appointment as manager. The Owls have won five games out of eight under the former Preston North End manager and have moved two points clear of the relegation zone. However, Crystal Palace, Ipswich and Reading still have games in hand which, if won, could drag the Owls back into the bottom three. "It is a blow to lose any game – especially when you are in our position – but the important thing is now to bounce back on Saturday," said Grant. "Every game is getting bigger because all the teams down at the bottom are playing really well. "We are in the very early stages of development under the new manager but if we can continue to progress as we have been, we won't have problems," he added. Rovers defender Elliott Ward revealed he nearly missed his debut after his car broke down on his way from the Midlands. "It all moved very quickly but I was a bit late because my car broke down," he said. "Now I am here I just want to play football and we will see what the managers thinks after that." www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/Rovers-not-dreaming-of-promotion.6083265.jp

THE FRIDAY PREVIEW: DONNY Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010 Doncaster Rovers are the latest side to visit W12 on Saturday, with the R's desperate to accumulate as many points as possible between now and the end of the season to avoid the dreaded drop zone. While Rangers sit in 18th spot in the Coca Cola Championship - just a point away from the bottom three - Sean O'Driscoll's men are some eight places higher in tenth on 40 points. Donny travel to Loftus Road high in confidence following their 2-0 away victory at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, with strikes from Elliott Ward and an own goal sealing the win at Hillsborough. Article continues Advertisement MPU And it was Rovers who took a maximum return the last time these two sides met in league action. Billy Sharp and Dean Shiels were the scorers in a match where the hosts took a 2-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium. Team News Long-term absentees Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon remain unavailable with knee injuries, while Marcus Bent is in a race to be fit for this match after picking up a hamstring strain in our home game against Ipswich Town. Meanwhile, Doncaster have no fresh injury worries and are expected to name the same side that beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Tuesday night. Star Man Brian STOCK - Midfield Doncaster Rovers completed the signing of Winchester-born midfielder Brian Stock on a permanent deal from Preston North End in January 2007, after he impressed on an earlier loan deal. Stock started his career at AFC Bournemouth, where he played in a total of 145 League games, scoring 16 goals for the Cherries. In January 2006, the midfielder joined Preston in a loan deal, before he soon made the switch to Deepdale permanent. However, a change of manager at North End led to Stock being given limited opportunities to play First Team football, and with that in mind the 28-year old decided on a move that would see him reunited with former Manager Sean O'Driscoll at Donny in a deal worth £150,000. A classy player in the centre of midfield - Stock's ability to run at players and unleash long-range shots makes him a force on the pitch and a hard player to contain. The midfielder was named Players' Player of the Year at the end of the 2008/09 season, though Stock's appearances have been limited this term after he needed surgery to rectify an ankle problem. Stock has now returned to full fitness, and remains an integral player at the heart of Rovers' midfield Past Encounter QPR 2, Doncaster Rovers 0 Coca Cola Championship - Saturday 23rd August 2008 QPR did the memory of Ray Jones proud with an impressive 2-0 win over South Yorkshire side Doncaster Rovers. Dexter Blackstock and a first strike for Argentine Emmanuel Ledesma sealed all three points for the R's who banished memories of last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United with an assured performance full to the brim of attacking flair and creative genius. The game marked the year anniversary of the death of striker Jones who was tragically killed in a car accident, and a tribute was played on the new giant screen to remember one of the Club's most promising players. Teamtalk Rangers worry over duo Fri, 19 Feb QPR will be without Mikele Leigertwood and have major doubts over Hogan Ephraim and Marcus Bent for the visit of Doncaster. Leigertwood will have to serve the final game of his three-match ban after Tuesday night's clash with Watford was postponed. Winger Ephraim has an ankle injury and on-loan Birmingham striker Bent is struggling with a hamstring problem, with neither likely to be available. Rangers are still without long-term knee-injury victims Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon. Rowlands' injury will keep him out for the rest of the season but the club hope fellow midfielder Mahon will be pushing for a return by April. Young striker Antonio German could be called up to make his full debut. uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/19022010/63/rangers-worry-duo.html

The previews last time we played Doncaster back in Febuary of this year...But the big news at that time was that Saksena was in and Briatore was out...(And Paladini somehow got to stay!) But the change was in.. Warnock was set to come in (delayed for some days/weeks) And the new team BBC QPR 2-1 Doncaster QPR 2-1 Doncaster Goals from Antonio German and Jay Simpson ended a sequence of five successive defeats for QPR as Doncaster were put to the sword. QPR teenager German claimed his first professional goal on 24 minutes when he fired in a rebound after Neil Sullivan had saved Simpson's close-range effort. James Hayter equalised after the break when he turned in Billy Sharp's cross. But Qpr bagged their first win of the year late on when Simpson chested down Akos Buzsaky's chip to slot home. The result gives QPR a winning start to the post-Flavio Briatore era following the Italian's resignation as chairman last night. Rangers suffered a brief spell of uncertainty before and after Hayter's equaliser, although that might have been different had Sullivan not kept out a close-range Kaspars Gorkss' header just before the break. But Brian Stock and Sharp both failed to make the most of decent chances for Rovers, and the former was particularly culpable when he put a John Oster cut-back over from close in. QPR also missed chances, not least when German sent a free header over from Lee Cook's corner. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QPR manager Mick Harford: "It was hard work but I thought overall we performed very well. "I thought [German] was the best player on the pitch. "He's technically very good and if he continues to improve he's got a good future." Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll: "We were awful, we never got going. "Our two centre-halves played like it was only their second game together - which it was. "But you have to give some credit to QPR, and the young boy [German] was excellent." Doncaster Official SitePREVIEW: QPR (A) Posted on: Thu 23 Sep 2010- by Chris Mortley Doncaster Rovers are on the road to take on the league leaders this weekend, as Sean O'Driscoll's side face Neil Warnock's Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon (3:00pm KO). Loftus Road has not been a lucky ground for the Rovers since the Club's return to the Championship, however with Rovers starting the season in solid fashion - this is as good a time as any for the boys in red and white hoops to break the Loftus Road hoodoo. Queens Park Rangers go into the weekend's clash against the Rovers off the back of a superb 2-0 away victory against former manager Paulo Sousa's Leicester City. Rangers, who have started the season in scintillating fashion, made it nineteen goals for the season following the win. Leading goal-scorer Jamie Mackie, a summer signing from relegated Plymouth Argyle, netted both goals in the win to take his personal tally to eight at the start of the season and give the R's a four-point lead at the summit of the table. The Rovers go into the game following last Friday's 0-0 draw against Leeds United in front of the television cameras. Although the score-line states that no goals were scored, the game produced arguably one of the more entertaining 0-0 draws that Rovers have been involved in. Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half, with Davide Somma coming close for Leeds and Dean Shiels curling an effort onto the post. Leeds United thought they had won the clash in the second half when Somma did put the ball in the back of the net, only for the celebrations to be halted thanks to the linesman's flag. Two teams playing some of the best football in the Championship thus far this term, it's sure to be a cracker in the capital. Team News QPR: To follow... Doncaster Rovers: Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll could welcome back striker James Hayter. The striker resumed training following a hamstring tear this week. Byron Webster (foot) and Steve Brooker (virus) are also available. Rovers will be without James Chambers who is still recovering from knee surgery, whilst Wayne Thomas is recovering from a fractured knee. QPR Predicted Line-Up GK: Paddy Kenny RB: Kyle Walker CB: Matthew Connolly CB: Kaspars Gorkss LB: Clint Hill RM: Adel Taarabt CM: Shaun Derry CM: Akos Buzsaky LM: Hogan Ephraim SS: Jamie Mackie ST: Heidar Helgusson One To Watch - Jamie Mackie Jamie Mackie is the man who has taken the Championship by storm this term. A shining light in an otherwise terrible season for Plymouth Argyle last season, Mackie made the move to London this summer and is already on eight goals this season, netting the two goals in QPR's 2-0 win over Leicester City last weekend. A provider and creator of goals, as well as the scorer of many - Mackie has shone under Neil Warnock's guidance and - should he continue in the vein of form seen in the season's opening weeks - is easily an early contender for this season's Golden Boot. Last Time Out The last time that these two sides met was in last season's Championship campaign. Rovers made the trip to the capital back in February, confident following a footballing master class which resulted in a 2-0 win over QPR at the Keepmoat the previous November. However, Rovers were to be on the end of another Loftus Road defeat thanks to a QPR performance highlighted with a superb debut from Antonio German. German opened the game's scoring before James Hayter equalised in the second half. However a late finish from Jay Simpson wrapped three points up for the home side, as Rovers were forced to leave London without a share of the spoils. Previous Encounters - QPR (A) Games Played at Loftus Road - 6 QPR Wins - 4 Rovers Wins - 2 Draws - 0 QPR Goals - 14 Rovers Goals - 6 Officials Referee: Roger East Assistant Referees: Darren Bond & Chris Powell Fourth Official: Gavin Muge Rovers Kit Doncaster Rovers will sport red and white hoops, black shorts and black socks for the trip to QPR on Saturday. Queens Park Rangers vs Doncaster Rovers Match PreviewNeil Warnock has to be the happiest man in Championship football, last months ‘Manager of the Month’ winner, still unbeaten, in the frame for the award again and five points clear at the top of the table. However, he won’t be taking any of that for granted. The experienced Warnock has been too long in the game to think that any of that will count for anything in May if he doesn’t keep his players focused. The have the prospect of 7th placed Doncaster Rovers to contend with. The Vikings have become a very good side under Sean O’Driscoll. The Irish manager O’Driscoll has made his team very difficult to break down and strong n the counter attack, so Warnock’s side won’t be taking their visit lightly. The Hoops do not have influential defender Bradley Orr back form injury yet and they may give a late fitness test to Alejandro Faurlin. Donny will have to do without James Hayter who has a hamstring injury and James Chamber who is still sidelined after knee surgery. www.livesoccertv.com/match/149732/queens-park-rangers-vs-doncaster-rovers/_preview

South Yorkshire Star
Talented playmaker Taarabt the major threat to Rovers backline Premium Article !By Dom Howson RICHARD O'Kelly, Doncaster Rovers' assistant manager, has hinted they could man-to-man mark Queens Park Rangers dangerman Adel Taarabt. The Moroccan international, who scooped the Championship player of the month award for August, has caught the eye at Loftus Road since arriving on a permanent basis from Tottenham in the summer. Full of flair and creativity, Taarabt has licence to roam in QPR's system, operating in the hole behind lone striker Heidar Helguson. His sparkling form is one of the main reasons why Neil Warnock's side are at the summit of the Championship. Taarabt, who was on-loan at QPR last season, has grabbed two goals in his seven starts while making numerous assists for his teammates. O'Kelly has warned the Rovers squad, who will travel to London today, to beware of Taarabt's talent. "Adel has got that little bit of quality which can change a game," he told The Star. "He played against us last season and we could see the qualities he has got. "Like in any game, you have to deal with your opponents' strengths and try and show them what you have got so that is what we will be striving to do." It is conceivable Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll could deploy Simon Gillett or Martin Woods to track Taarabt's dynamic runs. O'Kelly added: "I think you would have to be daft not to give him (Taarabt) special consideration with a man marker or when you lose possession that somebody needs to take care of him. "He is a strong part of their team so it would be very foolish of us to go down there and just ignore that. He can really influence a game so we have to be alert to that." While extremely gifted going forward, Taarabt possesses a temperamental side to his personality. He recently kicked a water bottle over in anger as he trudged off the pitch after being substituted in the 3-0 win at Ipswich. He continued sulking in the shower as Warnock spoke to the players at full time. Warnock said: "He's not Latin American but he's got that type of character and you can't let it upset you. You've got to learn to cope with his tantrums. "I just look at the good things he does. I've never had a player of better quality." QPR are five points clear at the top, having garnered 19 points from 21 on offer. www.thestar.co.uk/doncaster-sport/Talented-playmaker-Taarabt-the-major.6548660.jp

Betfair Andrew French QPR v Doncaster Rangers made me look silly last weekend as they saw off Leicester with some ease - but I still maintain their superb start to the season is due to end. I'm not denying Rangers have been outstanding and look well able to maintain this form and turn it into a promotion push - but the Championship is not a league that pays any respect to reputation. A mad result is only ever just around the corner. Betfair With three home wins and nine goals (none against), the Hoops look formidable at Loftus Road. But I saw Doncaster at Watford recently and they play some really attractive football, and are certainly resilient. Manager Sean O'Driscoll won't divert from his belief in keeping the ball on the deck and it's unlikely Rangers will have met a side that plays as much football as Rovers. At a skinny price, I'm prepared to take Rangers on. Lay QPR at 1.72 against Doncaster betting.betfair.com/football/championship/the-championship-betting-young-hornets-can-halt-boros-rece-240910.html

QPR v Doncaster TEAM NEWS QPR's Alejandro Faurlin is still nursing a groin problem, so Akos Buzsaky is set to continue in midfield. Defender Bradley Orr had hoped to return from a calf problem but looks likely to miss out, and recent signing Rob Hulse (Achilles) remains sidelined. Doncaster Rovers skipper Brian Stock is pushing for a place in the starting line-up following a back injury. Striker James Hayter, out for six weeks with a torn hamstring, could also feature at Loftus Road. MATCH PREVIEW Doncaster, unbeaten in their last four matches, enjoy upsetting the odds and their passing style could provide rampant leaders Queens Park Rangers with the kind of test they have not faced so far this season. Rovers have not won at QPR for almost 59 years and will face a side that have won their last three games, are five points clear at the top of the Championship, are the division's top scorers and have the best defensive record. And in Jamie Mackie, the west London side also boast the second tier's top scorer. Six of Mackie's eight goals this season have come in his last four matches. Defences scared stiff of Adel Taarabt have found to their cost that focusing on the talented Moroccan only creates opportunities for the likes of Mackie, who has already scored as many goals this season as he managed for Plymouth during the whole of last term. And stand-in captain Taarabt remains a threat in his own right. Despite being singled out for close attention by opposing sides, the summer signing from Tottenham has provided six goal assists this season - more than any other player in the Championship. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Doncaster have won six of the 12 previous league matches between these clubs. 606: DEBATE Have your say on this match • Rovers have been beaten on their last four visits to QPR, and their last win there was a 2-0 victory in February 1952. Queens Park Rangers • QPR, the only unbeaten side in the second tier, have won six Championship matches this season - at least two more than any other team. • They have scored 19 goals and conceded only two. • Forward Heidar Helguson is set to make his 300th league appearance. Doncaster • A victory for Doncaster would be their 400th away from home in the Football League. • Seven different players have scored league goals for Rovers this season. • Brian Stock is in line for his 250th league start, while Sam Hird is hoping to make his 100th Doncaster appearance. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/9021312.stm
