Thirty-six years ago today...at home to Sunderland. I was actually there! Thomas just signed from Burnley. QPR had won their last four...The Martyn Busby injury, which we discussed here, led Jago/Gregory to sign Thomas. The QPR team vs Sunderland Parkes - Clement Evans Hazell Watson - Francis Venables Thomas - Leach Bowles Givens
Don't remember the Sunderland Team (which went on to win the FA Cup that season) but presumably had Dave Watson either at Center half/or center forward - a player we had been linked with. Would have been a great signing.

Yep I was there just checked the prog 3-2 and I was up at Roker Park on the following Wednesday night after the FAC Final when we beat them 3-0. They had the FA Cup sitting on the side of the pitch on the halfway line. Oh and don't forget 9 strand Bob Stokoe.

Bushman, did you see the cup get knocked over? How many fans travelled to away games back then?

cpr is right Hazel knocked it of the table when they were kicking the warm up balls back to the bench before the kick-off and Hazel launched one.
We always took a coach or two to away games but by the mid 70's the away support was getting bigger and better.

Good to have that confirmed. Bowles in his book and interviews, claims "credit" for knocking over the Trophy, which he said he did deliberately. Gordon Jago in an interview couple of years ago gave the "credit" to Tony Hazell, who I strongly doubt could so accurately target something!

I'm surprised Stan could remember that far back considering the amount of booze he chucked down his neck back then allegedly.
