Just in time for Derby vs QPR! (January 17 at Derby) BBC - Jewell resigns as Derby manager Paul Jewell has resigned as manager of Championship side Derby County, the club have confirmed. The decision follows a 1-0 defeat by Ipswich on Sunday in Jewell's 50th game in charge of the Rams. He guided Derby to a Carling Cup semi-final with Manchester United this season, but the side are currently 18th in the Championship table. A club statement said Jewell "feels that he is no longer in a position to take the club forward". Jewell's assistant manager Chris Hutchings has been put in charge for their upcoming games at Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup and at home to Manchester United in the Carling Cup semi-finals. The 44-year-old Jewell joined Derby in November 2007, having quit as Wigan boss six months earlier. The statement added: "Paul has taken the decision to leave his role as he believes it is in the best interests of the club. "It is with great regret that we accept this decision and Derby County would like to put on record its thanks to Paul Jewell for his effort and commitment over the last 12 months."
