Ben Benyon played stand-off half for Wales in the rugby international against Scotland. One of the great football characters he also played centre-forward for Swansea Town, for whom he scored 11 goals in 25 matches between 1920 and 1922, and had experience of Rugby League as well.

Albert Pape travelled to Manchester United as Clapton Orient's centre-forward for a Second Division match but was transferred to United before the kick off. He then played for the Reds and scored a goal against Orient in United's 4-2 win. Started his career with Rotherham County in 1919 and also played for Notts County, Fulham, Hartlepool United and Halifax Town where he ended his career in 1931. He scored 102 goals in 266 matches.

Frank Hartley became the first Corinthian to turn professional when he signed for Tottenham Hotspur. As an amateur he also played for Oxford City and for England on eight occasions including one full appearance in 1923 against France. Nonetheless he failed to make any great impact as a professional and played only five League games in two seasons at White Hart Lane.

Tommy Urwin transferred from Newcastle United to Sunderland and thus completed the round of the "big three" North Eastern clubs. He had started with Middlesbrough in 1914 and moved to Newcastle ten years later. Remained with Sunderland until 1935 becoming the first professional footballer to qualify for a benefit match with three clubs. During his career he appeared in 446 League matches and scored 48 goals as well as playing three internationals for England.

Centre-forward Dave Mangnall transferred from Huddersfield Town to Birmingham. After a handfull of matches for Leeds United in 1929 he had joined Huddersfield and was their leading scorer in 1932 with 33 goals. He didn't make the expected impact at Birmingham and joined West Ham United where he got 24 goals in 25 matches in 1936 and then moved to Millwall. He was their centre when they became the first Third Division side to reach the semi-finals of the F.A. Cup and led them to promotion in 1938. After the Second War he had a spell as manager of Queens Park Rangers.

Len White, Newcastle United centre-forward, transferred to Huddersfield Town. Began his career as an outside-right with Rotherham United and moved to Tyneside early in 1953. He won a Cup medal in that position in 1955 and converted to centre-forward when Jackie Milburn went to Linfield in 1957. At only 5'7" he was small for a centre but nonetheless was United's leading scorer in each of his last four complete seasons with the club. Played for the Football League against the Irish League in 1959, scoring three goals, and against the Scottish League in 1960. In January 1965 he moved to Stockport County where he passed the milestones of 400 League matches and 200 League goals. He retired in 1966 by which time he had scored 217 League goals and a further 12 in the F.A. Cup.

Everton paid £39,000 for Rangers international outside-right Alex Scott who had won every possible honour in Scottish football during ten successful years at Ibrox playing in some 300 matches and scoring about 100 goals. At Everton he made a further 149 Football League appearances and scored 23 goals.
