Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Watford 10-0 in a F.A. Cup First Round replay. The original match had ended goalless.

During the Second Division match between Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Baseball Ground the crowd invaded the pitch. It was alleged that a Wolves player was struck before police were able to restore order.

The deaths of J.T Robertson at the age of 58 and of John Drummond at 67. The pair were both Scottish international defenders. Robertson was considered the finest centre-half of his day and played 15 times for his country between 1898 and 1905 during a career which saw him at Morton, Everton, Southampton and Rangers. When Chelsea were formed in 1905 they engaged him as player-manager for their first Football League season (1905-06). Drummond was a Rangers player and represented Scotland on 14 occasions between 1892 and 1903.

Neil Franklin signed professional forms with Stoke City. He made his name during the War and succeeded Stan Cullis as England's centre-half in 1945. He played in all the "Victory" internationals and in the first 27 officially recognised peacetime internationals. In May 1950 he went to Colombia with team-mate George Mountford on the promise of footballing riches but soon became disillusioned and returned to England in July of the same year. Colombia was not a member of F.I.F.A. at the time and the move was illegal. He received a six month suspension after which he joined Hull City, Crewe Alexandra in 1956 and Stockport County in 1957. During his career, which ended at the close of the 1957-58 season, he played in 323 League matches. He later went into management and, after non-League experience, took over at Colchester United in 1964.

Arthur Rowley became the first player to score 300 League goals since the end of the Second War when he scored for Shrewsbury in their 5-3 win over Chester. He began amassing this total in the 1946-47 season with West Bromwich Albion and later played with Fulham and Leicester City. In September 1962 he surpassed all British League scoring records.
