Edit..38 Years ago: Second Leg1 First Leg 36 Years - QPR Crush Partizan 6-2Assuring QPR of qualification for the next round - we assumed And then in the away leg, Alan Mullery did his thing. (I could post video of that, but I think not) I remember hearing the result for the second leg in the US on sportsround...First they just gave all the scores///Partizan 4 QPR 0...And for a few seconds: Was working out: Did that mean we'd gone on away goals... Snippet from the 6-2 Home win.

I think you mean 25 years, not 35. I was one of about 100 Rangers fans in Belgrade. We had to commit to the trip and pay a deposit before the first leg. I was thinking after the match at Highbury "I could have saved my money for the next round"....little did I know! It was a great trip but the match was a nightmare.....

I will never forget sitting on the floor in front of the TV, watching the news in full just waiting for the result.
When they finally got to the sports, we were the last item in the football news round-up and the sports reader actually laughed as he read out the score.
At first it didn't quite hit me, I just thought at least it wasn't five!, then the sports reader pointed out the away goals rule and with his smirk ended my European dreams.
For now!
I have not heard that much about the away match, apart from Peter Hucker's account, though I have had several eye witness accounts of what the players did that night in a night club and what happened on the plane home all leading up to Simon Stainrod being dropped for the next game!
I really, really, to this day, dislike Alan 'F***ing useless' Mullery!

mark mullery was a total disgrace mate, didnt want the fans at the the training ground the day before the game, the players said we could come and watch them , most of the players got hammered the night before the game in the hotel , one midfielder had to be carried into the lift in the early hrs by a couple of the players , so many storys from those 3 days , one thing I wish had happened was fenwick smacking mullery at the airport on the way home ( we stopped him ) mullery is and always will be a total tool screwed up big time that night ,
stainrod was dropped for singing going down going down going down as we approached the airport on the lay home , macca emptied the trolley of booze before we even took off from belgrade passing any booze which came to hand to the fans to try to deaden the pain of defeat.

Yes, about 100 fans plus the 40 players and officials. Trevor Kingham and about 5 others went via train. I think they spent about a day in a siding in Munich! It was a trip I will never forget. The block of Rangers 125 seats. Freebies, but sat next to each other! So it was 125 Rangers fans all in a single row. Needless to say we were rather quiet! I remember Jeremy Charles needing significant assistance to help him off the plane in Luton....down to the amount of alcohol he'd consumed. A few players disgraced themselves on the trip. Others just re-confirmed their reputations as top pros and people - Waddock, Banister etc.

And 37 years ago today, November 7, 1984 - The second leg: Partizan 4 QPR 0 - Our last game in a (real) European Competition. Infamy! QPR Knocked out of Europe by Partizan Belgrade! - November 7, 1984: UEFA CUP: Partizan Belgrade 4 QPR 0 Perhaps the nadir of Alan Mullery six-month managership of a QPR team which (with the exception of Garry Bannister replacing Clive Allen)Mllery inherited from Terry Venables. - A couple of weeks previously, QPR had beaten Partizan Belgrade 6-2 in the UEFA Cup (played at Highbury becuase of a ban on Loftus Road because of its "plastic pitch."). In the return game, QPR were through as long as they avoided a 0-4 or 1-5 defeat. Unfortunately, QPR didn't manage this, and QPR were amazing knocked out of Europe. And that was the last time QPR played in the EUFA Cup!)A few short weeks later, Alan Mullery was gone from QPR! - QPR's team on that dreadful night: Hucker Chivers Wicks Fenwick Dawes Gregory Waddock Fillery Fereday Stainrod Bannister Sub: Mickelwhite Not Long after..... Yet that was a quality teaam. I still remember the goals being on the news out here which was pretty much a first. Disgraceful that they threw away that lead. These days i would've put money on it that some Indian bookie had got to the team.
Alan Mullery - Loser.

My recollection is that we were winning at half time - and Jim Gregory sacked Mullery - at half time!

I don't recall Gary Cooper making many appearances for us but I do recall him on as a sub at home to which the Loft chanted "one Humphrey Bogart, there's only one Humphrey Bogert.."

Partizan Belgrade - Queens Park Rangers 2-6 and 4-0 (1984) UEFA Cup second round. In London, it was a cat and mouse game. QPR pushed the Partizans into the box and kicked them into the net together with the ball. Six times. Only once before had a team come back from four goals down in Europe and that was in the early sixties. QPR was very vulnerable away from home and Partizan knew it. Mance, Kalicanin, Jesic and Zivkovic created a miracle before 55,000 fans who never stopped believing." Report BBC - The Great ComebacksQPR 6-6 Partizan Belgrade (1984) QPR went to Belgrade confident of earning a place in the third round of the Uefa Cup. They had cruised through the first leg at Loftus Road 6-2 but they fell 1-0 down within five minutes of the away tie. They conceded again before half-time and two goals in the second period completed their misery as Partisan went through on away goals. Less than two months earlier Rangers had fought back from 4-0 and 5-3 down to draw 5-5 at home to Newcastle - but this time the boot was on the other foot. It's fair to say Hucker was not at his best that night, but Mullery had already lost the support of most of the squad before they turned out for the match. Personaly I don't know what was worse, getting there or getting home!
