Frustrating night. First off, it was a decent attendance tonight, but with Ellerslie Road closed. A big mistake, because it kills the atmosphere and crowd support. Most noise stems from the Q P & R Blocks - and we close them. Wednesday took both tiers and created a lot of noise. Then the team selection.... we made a lot of changes as did Wednesday with 6 changes. But they adapted far better than we did to the changes. Without Wells & Bright we had little pace and tempo. We passed / pissed around at the back and it was slow and boring. Wednesday pressed well and we do not like it, but they were nothing special. We lost to a soft goal as we switched off for a throw on as three players were facing the wrong way and Lumley seemed to get in line and block the shot but it went under his body. Wednesday did not threaten again until they broke away in injury time and scored a second. Wells scored from the bench after Dawson did a Lumley pass out to him, but he still had a lot to do. He is on fire at the moment. We played better in the second half, but we were not good enough tonight - too lethargic. As to the players: Lumley - as it was a cup game, I can see the logic of recalling him, but he is a shadow of his old self and I expect Kelly to return on Tuesday - sorry Joe. Kane - I think that was probably his poorest game for QPR. He was dreadful again - a player completely out of form Manning - not a full back and badly exposed in the first half - but if he cannot start a cup game, when can he start Masterson - another fine game Leinster - played ok although some of his distribution was wayward Pugh - not sure what he brings to the side - he plays at a different pace to the youngsters - poor game tonight Eze - very poor set pieces tonight - but asked to play in a fetch and carry Amos role today that did not play to his strengths Chair - worked hard as ever - always seems to get substituted by Warburton Ball - Worked hard - but very much part of the pissing about passing backwards - an OK game Clarke - guilty of trying one too many twists and then losing the ball. Look very unfit - poor game. Hugill - typical Jordan game - got nothing from Stroud all night and leaned back and missed a good chance to equalise BOS - looked a class above when he came on - some fantastic turns and he frightened them to death - great cameo, great reception - he is on fire! Wells - Did not see much of the ball when he came on for Chair but took his goal very well. Got a great reception. In the end, we lost to a not very good team. Then there was Keith Stroud - how is he still employed as a ref?

Lumley is a disaster!
Pretty sure Kelly, Kenny and Smithies would all have comfortably saved Fox's shot for their opener.
Rob Green probably let's that one in too, though.........

Lumley is a disaster! Pretty sure Kelly, Kenny and Smithies would all have comfortably saved Fox's shot for their opener. Rob Green probably let's that one in too, though......... When Lumley was in 'top form' I said at the time that he was the luckiest QPR keeper that I could remember. The ball seemed to hit him no matter where he stood, if he got a hand to the shot it hit the bar or went narrowly wide. He had a run of clean sheets and other clubs came sniffing around. His agent used the hype to secure a better contract and we were all pleased that the move to Bristol City never materialised. With Smithies gone he had been the obvious candidate to step up. A very vocal confident keeper. We all wondered why Kelly was being purchased (our only cash outlay). Why was Deing being offered a new contract only to be loaned out again? What do we need Barnes for - a 4th keeper? Did Warburton know what he was doing with the keepers? Poor Joe then experienced the opposite of fortunes, no matter what he did the ball ended up in the net. Playing out from the back with a defence that passed back just put him under more pressure and he responded with gaff after gaff. Kelly's less than convincing start gave Joe an extended run to come good. Alas, he hasn't as yet. He has gone from looking like a great prospect to a 'dodgy keeper' in pretty quick order. Selected last night as the reserve cup keeper behind a much improved Kelly he did not have a lot to do. But he could not prevent a shot at the near post creeping under his body. A collective poor goal to concede - I agree that the named keepers above would probably have done better. He was vocal towards Clarke for his lapse, but generally he is back in his shell now and the defenders do not seem to be confident in him. Hard to know what next for Joe. Seems a decent lad and I wish him well. Really hope that we can find a decent loan for him to rebuild.

shitee goalie and clueless manager, i see the squad and thought nah im going up the pub. When posting on this message board, I try to give context and opinion so that those who are unable to get to the game get at least a feel of what I think happened. But of course it is far easier to just take a binary view of the outcome or the selection - perhaps I should do the same and see if we agree. Certainly, if I were to ignore the commercial realities of the club's situation Ii could easily adopt a view and say that they have been my lifelong club and that the limited progress of recent years really pisses me off. It does! But life is not always quite so binary and even though times are tough, I genuinely enjoy going along and prefer it to the pub. Even in very poor health I struggled along. My post above was trying to chart how we got to today with Joe Lumley - but as you say, easier to just say 'shiteee keeper' and move on.

The "corporates" might devalue the FA Cup in lure of bigger money elsewhere but they forget real fans, those whom have made it a life time of commitment to supporting them, that the FA Cup & The League Cup actually mean something. I get pissed off at QPR when they field 2nd string teams for these competitions. They are not showing true respect for your average fans. I want the cup run, I want to get to a final, I want the team to be the best team and give it's best performance. Sadly these days, it's a limp wristed effort with no consequences.

I'm guilty of only watching this on television rather than being at the game.
However, I thought that prior to the goal Lumley had looked more assured than I had seen him since the kick on his head. He also suffered from our whole team switching off for the Wednesday throw in, but there is no defence for not saving the goal. During half time I switched to the Doncaster game at Sunderland & saw Dieng command his area & catch crosses with ease. I'm sorry to say that there is no comparison between the two of them!
The only thing I agree with rangerrsman on is that Joe should not be in the side, but I despair with the horrible aggressive language that he uses. Lumley cares & does not deserve this battering!
As for the attack on Mark Warburton, all I can say is Thank you Mark for giving us the most enjoyable football to watch for years!

Although last nights wasn’t enjoyable to me. It took about an hour to half a grass cutter of a shot at goal. I’m with Longunman on this, we are in the middle of table not going to get promoted or relegated , we whole heartedly should have gone for the win with a strong team. Mark Warburton picked the wrong team in my view last night, specially putting Lumley in goal. This morning we should be in the hat for the last 16, if we picked our strongest 11 we would have been, M Warburton knows that.

I did indeed go to the pub, only had 6 not ten. I have supported this club since 1963 i was 3 years old and probably naive. I post as i see fit, i disagree with many posts on here, but do not always comment. My comments are my opinions of which i am fully entitled to have, wouldnt it be nice if we all thought the same ( echo chamber). Not meant to be perceived as aggressive as someone said earlier, just my style of writing i suppose. Some of the posts i see would be very illuminating for fans who cannot get to the games and i concur with that.

I understand your frustration Lone. Obviously, QPR are not on their own with this approach. I just looked through today's teams and the starting line-ups are unrecognizable. Even Brentford fielded their kids against Leicester this morning. Promotion / Avoiding relegation is so financially important that clubs decide that the cup is not worth the risk of injury. Had we equalized last night, we would be trekking up to Yorkshire for a cold Wednesday evening for yet another fixture - and probably lose. As I said in my original post, we had a good attendance last night - although my newspaper says 7800. Three sides pretty full? OAP season ticket holders paid £3 for their tickets yesterday. £5 for OAPs otherwise. The club(s) is losing money with every cup game, is it any wonder that they have so little ambition? If there really were less than 8k there last night, the supporters are making it clear that it is not about the cost. it is about what is on offer. Managers just use it as an opportunity to rotate the squad using the back up keepers for example. I quite like seeing some of the wider squad, especially the prospects. But until the later stages of the competition(s) it is now 'just what it is'. Had Bright started last night and picked up a serious injury Warburton would be getting pelters from all areas. He did throw on Wells & Bright to try and win it, but there is a feeling that it is no longer a 'real' game. Don't misunderstand me, I think it is a tremendous shame that cup competitions are so devalued. But i guess it comes back again to just too many games. Cup games offer little reward until the latter stages. For the fans though, we would love to put out one of the big boys. Role model Brentford had the chance to put out the third placed Prem team today and chose to play the kids instead. sigh!

If a team in our position in the table isn’t prepared to go for it , then no Managers will ever go for it. What a waste of time when we really could have progressed into the last 16. Would much rather seen us go out with a fight than a damp squib. Last night efforts were pretty straight forward in we got exactly what we deserved, nothing. Too many changes and the team was way too disjointed.
I find this very sad, I havnt been really annoyed on two many occasions this season, maybe Barnsley and Forest games, but last night I really was upset by A, the team selection and B the performance which was basically the result of A. Whilst we have had some good flowing football for most of this season, MW got it wrong last night.

Anyone's opinion is fine.
Even better if there's an explanation as to why people think what they think.
Better still if they offer a suggestion how things might improve.
Abuse aimed at people who simply express a different view is pretty lame.
Aren't we all meant to support the same team?

Clarke looked lost and Pugh was tidy , not losing the ball but not the type of outlet we needed. Game was crying out for both to come off and for Bright and Mide to do there thing down the wings. Mide seemed to be warming up the whole game in front of us but hey ho .. lost opportunity

It seems people on here seem to care more about the club than some of the people employed at the club, reading the comments made after my last one. Hence my comment about the real fans are getting treated with no respect, especially the ones whom have paid for season tickets and or at the gate for a Cup Match. It's quite infuriating. We get quite a few QPR games live on TV down here, so it's easy to keep up.

I totally understand the frustrations regarding the team selection, although I think it is a little harsh on Warburton. Rightly or wrongly, most managers make numerous changes for cup games, to rotate the squad and rest key players. When I saw the team to face Swansea, I had serious misgiving about our chances. We made 6 changes, Swansea made 10 though. We got off to a decent start and all was forgiven. For Swansea, we rested Eze, Hall, Leinster, Manning, Amos, Wellsi & Lumley (then number one keeper). We even played Cameron at Centre Back. The outcome was that Masterson blossomed, uder-utilized Scowen scored a wonder goal, Pugh started and had his best game and all the players stepped up. Chair operated in Eze's position and had a great game. Hugill even scored. Fast forward to Friday and another 13 changes between the 2 sides. Hugill started up front as per Swansea (but this time missed a similar opportunity), Masterson remained in the side, Manning got a recall, Pugh started again, Jack Clarke got his first start and Lumley (now number 2 keeper) was given another chance at redemption and was doing Ok until the goal. My feeling was about the same as pre-Swansea, very skeptical. Lacking pace, as Bright played against Swansea, but Warburton seems big on protecting the youngsters. It clearly didn’t work against Sheffield Wednesday and perhaps it only worked against Swansea because they made too many changes, but my point is that I did not go home after Swansea thinking Warburton had messed up big time. Likewise, I did not think that after Friday’s game either. I did think that the side was so lacking in pace and that certain players were seriously under performing and that changes should have been made earlier. If he was protecting Bright, then play Shadipo for example. All a manager can do if a player has a bad day is give them the hook. But conversely, some players (Masterson) grab their chance and do not look back. As for the lost chance to play Man City, well I do agree it is a lost big pay day, but it is quite astonishing how the bigger teams can rest their players and still thump lower league opposition. I think we may have had to overt our eyes and if Joe continued as the Cup keeper he could have been damaged beyond repair.

That was the key , we rested Lumley.😉 I still blame MW for this one, we rested too many against Swansea but somehow got away with it, then we tried to do it again. Very dangerous and threw away a fantastic opportunity to get a sell out against Man City, now the owners will realise they wasted money that’s needed in these difficult times thrown down the drain. How much would we have made from a QPR V Man C cup tie that was probably going to sell out and end up on BT sport etc too. Maybe nearly as much as we got for Scowen Sorry, from me the blame lies with MW, no excuses. His reply might be he wanted the best team to get the three points at Blackburn, so let’s hope he gets some consolation and delivers on this point now.

I don't think our exit / success can be put solely at Lumley's door, although there is no denying from me that he is in a shocking run of form. We took all our chances against Swansea, we missed them all against Sheffield W. I agree that we got away with it against Swansea, I was making the same point, we could not replicate that luck again though. But the romance seems to have gone completely out of the cups, for the owners, managers, players and fans. Fans do not show up until the 'plum tie', even with very, very low seat prices. Our players spent 70 min going through the motions on Friday, Swansea threw in the towel after the second goal and were duly criticized by their manager. But the changing fortunes of promotion and relegation mean far more than even the 'plum tie'. Through the early cup rounds, most teams are either going for promotion or worrying about a relegation fight. So managers / owners take a business decision to prioritise the league. Presumably, they believe that the early cup games and replays will be a financial loss and not worth the effort. Of course, this becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. QPR could easily have decided to prioritise the cup but clearly did not. Just by not arranging the Blackburn tie for today (pretty daft of QPR IMHO) could have given more flexibility. But had we fielded a stronger side on Friday and either lost or picked up a replay, only to play a weakened side tonight, Warburton would have taken pelters again. To me, the error was rearranging Blackburn for tonight. Had that not happened, it would have been far easier to field a stronger side. However, I wonder if in today's world of devalued cup games if we still would have rotated the squad. We will never know.

(Through the early cup rounds, most teams are either going for promotion or worrying about a relegation fight.) We are pretty much in no mans land, so even more frustrating.
