Albion the better team, but we go in all square so still everything to play for. Need to attack them now in this 2nd half.
It's there for the taking.

That was poor from Lumley, should have saved it. Wasn't a great strike.

We played scared today. Albion are nothing special and we bottled it. Not sure about that. Albion were the best team we have played this season IMHO. On paper they are superior to QPR with an experiences squad. They had watched QPR and so pressed us very hard and stopped our natural game. We did not really have a shot on target but still gave them a game. In Furlong and Ferguson they have 2 great prospects. Their centre backs were giants who bullied our 2 strikers and they gained their first clean sheet and remained unbeaten in the league. Kane was booked early on and had to be careful - Albion tried to get him his second yellow. Austin is still not fit but got a good reception as did Furlong. Matt Phillips was booed! Surprised to see Furlong go straight through Manning and get booked. Manning and Wells took a lot of stick from Albion who were not shy at dishing it out. But Chair, Eze and Bos all glided past them at times. Barbet chose to commit the red card outside the box and take one for the team. Then they score from the free kick so double jeopardy! The wall jumped and it was hit on the floor through the wall. The first goal was pretty poor. We just backed off Ferguson and he hit it hard and well, but Lumley had good vision and did not get a hand to it. He will be disappointed with that, but made several much harder saves to keep us in the match. WBA wasted time - as is the way and 4 minutes extra was indicated (sigh). The officials were awful. But as nice as it would have been to top the league tonight, we are still on a learning curve and we would probably have gone overboard if we had. But we were not disgraced, we should learn from it and we were beaten by a strong team playing well. It is written that after our Wembley successes that Derby and WBA shall beat us for ever more anyway!

Thanks Ricky. Good reporting. Noted that Charlie Austin has had a rough time since he left us for dreams of great success. Bet he wishes he had stayed with us. Not sure of that though.

Pretty much how I saw it too. Don't think we look scared, we tried to play our way, West Brom had clearly done their homework and were better. They smothered us in the first half by pressing very high and then stepped up through the gears.
I think part of it was how they dealt with our front two. Firstly, Hugill was getting very little out of Bartley - so a lot of his back to goal game that brings others in was largely snuffed out. And secondly, Wells wasn't getting much change out of their back line either but took a nasty knee in the back (potentially also from Bartley?) and didn't look the same since. Not that it would have made much difference but in the build up to their first goal, you see them glide past Nakhi in midfield and he could barely jog.
Agree on Lumley for the first goal - the ball dipped but that should have been a straightforward save and as Ricky says, confounded by him making numerous far better saves either side of the goal. Weird one.
Continue to be impressed by Ball, who was a signing I was a bit miffed about but was commanding and largely sensible in the middle. Thought Kane was poor - mitigated by having to be careful after the first yellow but some of his passing decisions were pretty off.
Also thought the officials weren't great. Lino on our side missed possibly the most obvious off sides I have ever seen in the first half. One of those refs who is sometimes incredibly picky about things one minute then happy to ignore time wasting and throw in placement the next. Cant fault the ref for the red card, though.
All in all, not a great performance but not that bad either. Beaten by an expensive, talented team who are now top. On we go.

We didn't turn up today. Crowd was very flat as well. 12.30 games do not agree with us!. Didn't think west Brom were anything special. We were poor but fairly comfortable until lumley let the 30yard side foot in. Ref was poor yet again. Not much ground lost on the top 6, Cardiff here we come......

West Brom are good, but we never played. We actually played far better against Swansea in my opinion.
What annoyed me most about this game is that Albion’s defence is poor and we never breached it. They Ferguson kid looked good, as did Perreira.
We will learn from this experience for sure, but I watched that game genuinely thinking and believing that we are a better team than what peoplewould have seen watching that game.
No arguments about the result though, they deserved it more.

There really isn't much to add to Ricky's and Bow's comments as they succinctly describe how I saw the match too.
West Brom had clearly done their homework and successfully nullified our more potent threats. Before the match, Terry suggested that Furlong and Manning may cancel each other out and that it would affect us more than them, and that was pretty much what happened. Eze and Chair were well chaperoned, but were still offered our best chance of creating anything so I was very surprised when Eze was substituted. Wells had had a poor match, I'd have taken him off first.
It is important to put this into perspective. From what I've seen this was the first time our scratch team has been outplayed. They've only had a few months and 9 competitive matches together. We will only get better as the season goes on, the team get more familiar with each other and they are better drilled in Warburton's systems.
After the final whistle, it was great to see Darnell and, after the post match Sky interviews, Charlie follow our players around acknowledging our supporters. They received the applause their impact at QPR deserved.

To sum up we had no answer for their high pressure game. It seemed to me that every time one of our players got the ball 2 or 3 of their players pressured them into a rushed pass or turning the ball over. We seemed to have no plan B for their tactics.

We were so slow getting out from the back and that wasn't down to pressing we just looked really lethargic. We had numerous chances to break at speed but we dawdled on the ball way to long

As others have said, West Brom were the better team & deserved to win. What did surprise me was how they managed to stop us from playing as I didn't think they were capable of doing that!
However, I've seen us play a lot worse than yesterday & we did try to play. I thought we improved in the second half & I was beginning to think we would keep them to nil, until Luml;ey let in the first goal. I'm sure he should have saved that, but I won't blame him for the second. That was totally down to the wall jumping over the ball.
This was not a disaster & I'm sure we will soon put this behind us.
Like Simon, I would like to thank Darnell & Charlie for acknowledging our supporters after the match. I'm also pleased that they received the reception they desrved!

From the Offie www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/yoann-barbet-to-serve-one-game-suspension/Yoann Barbet to serve one-game suspensionGeorge Jones @qpr YOANN Barbet will miss Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship through suspension. The defender committed a last-man foul on Hal Robson-Kanu with 82 minutes played against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and was given a straight red card by referee Geoff Eltringham. Barbet will therefore have to serve a one-game ban and will be eligible for selection again when the R’s host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 5th October (3pm kick-off).

We had the wrong shape IMO should have played 4-4-2, our wing backs went past our wingers and that left our center backs exposed WBA had a field day in the middle.

I dunno, part of me likes that we're sticking to the shape that seems to suit us best and taking teams on at our own game at home and having a sense of identity about us. But I guess that isn't always practical. Like you say, we did get bossed in the middle. Feel like most of Saturday was a matter of coming off worse in individual battles that we've previously won. Kane couldn't handle Ferguson offensively or defensively. Hugill couldn't get much out of Bartley. Ball couldn't keep a handle on Pereira. It's certainly a bit of a learning curve this early on to the Warburton era so far. Intrigued to see how we get on against Blackburn and Cardiff. After those, I feel like we've come up against a pretty decent spread in quality in terms of what this league has to offer.
