As you say it bloody crazy. Why note take the offer and move when / if a club comes in for him?

Then again, he was offered 3 times his current salary - Charlton need to watch the pennies. The club also apparently said "If Lee does change his mind before his contract expires and chooses to continue his good work at Charlton, he is still welcome to stay." Although Charlton have reportedly cr*p owners which the fans can't wait to be rid of, to my mind, they seem to have made a decent offer. I can only think Bowyer has other clubs sniffing around who can offer him more dosh.

Matt Hughes @matthughestimes Following #cafc's extraordinary statement regarding #Bowyer told the club offered him a one-year contract worth just over £200,000. For context of Championship managerial pay Frank Lampard earns around £2m at Derby, who would speak to Bowyer if Lampard joins Chelsea. 145 6:39 PM - Jun 17, 2019

I think that Bowyer leaving will unsettle the Charlton players. We could do with Lyle Taylor - although I don't think we could afford him. The sort of striker we need. He was originally with Millwall - but like Eze they let him go. Now he is probably out of their league as well and they will have to settle on Matt Smith instead.

It would appear not.
Clive is reporting on LFW that Bowyer has now signed a new contract!

Brum have just sacked Monk now, maybe they're after Schteev...

The relationship between the manager and the owners gets crazier by the day. I am pretty amazed that Bowyer signed the contract after that statement yesterday. Adkins decides against another barmy season at Hull. Monk sacked - I find him pretty arrogant, but he has done a decent job wherever he has been. What with the points deduction, he saved Brum from relegation last season. But not good enough for the owners who concluded the daft Jota deal last week against Monk's wishes. Birmingham likely to be scrapping in the relegation zone now - especially if they continue to do daft transfers. So good news for us.

After a long playing career and now into management, I'd take 200k

But Lone, you don't work in the football bubble where £200k is seen as pocket change and Pogba gets £3.5 million loyalty bonus at Man U.
Complete madness

Lampard is said to be on £2m p.a. at Derby - his first managerial position. Will probably double it at Chelsea. How much is John Terry getting at Villa to be the number 2? There is a huge disparity, and a very high expectation in our league. The outcome is total madness.
