www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/mark-warburton-named-qpr-manager/QPR have appointed Mark Warburton as the club’s new manager on a two-year contract. Warburton has previously managed at Brentford, Glasgow Rangers and Nottingham Forest. Upon his appointment at Loftus Road, Warburton told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “I am delighted and privileged to be managing this club. I am delighted and privileged to be managing this club. MARK WARBURTON Share A nice smile from the new Rangers manager “When I spoke to QPR they were very clear. They have a solid plan and know what they want. They have a long-term outlook and that appealed to me immediately. “I am excited about the challenge that lies ahead.” Warburton is known for playing an attractive brand of football, and he added: “I love seeing players who enjoy their football. “I like players being brave in possession, understanding the first thought is to play forward and be positive. “You have to be fit as well. Work ethic, desire, hunger, passion – all those clichés are so important for us. “Get that right and fingers crossed we will move in the right direction.” After taking over at Griffin Park from Wigan Athletic-bound Uwe Rosler in 2013, Warburton steered the club to automatic promotion from League One. In the following campaign – Warburton’s only full season at Brentford – the newly-promoted Bees achieved a play-off place, the club’s highest second-tier finish since 1934/35. In 2015/16, Warburton won promotion to the SPL as well as the Scottish Challenge Cup in his first season at Ibrox, while also reaching the final of the Scottish Cup. He left Rangers in December 2016 with them second in the SPL. They would finish the season third. Warburton spent nine months at the City Ground before leaving in December 2017. Director of Football Les Ferdinand said: “This is a fantastic appointment. “We spoke with a number of excellent candidates for the position, and Mark ticked all the boxes for us. “He loves working with younger players and developing them, and has a great understanding of the game. “Mark is determined to be a success and we will be giving him our full support to achieve that.” QPR chairman Amit Bhatia added: “We are all delighted to bring Mark in. “The excellent work by John Eustace as interim manager enabled us to spend the required time speaking with suitable candidates. “I am very pleased with how the recruitment process was carried out, as well as the end result which sees us appoint Mark as our manager.” A further announcement regarding Warburton’s backroom staff will be made in due course.

Good luck to him. I don't have strong views about; but seems a good choice. And it's not like he's "doing us a favor" by taking over
And his only real target next season is keep us up...Anything much else is a bonus. And I can't believe unless we are plummeting towards Div 3 that we can dare sack him...So gives him a chance

Several Forest supporters also coming say wish he had stayed, they played good attacking football. Not sure being on Twitter is a good thing for him, seeing some of the crap TF used to get thrown at him.

I've just watched his first interview on the club's website. He speaks well and seems to understand what is required.

This is a Les and Lee appointment, so hopefully this will be a sensible decision rather than TF going for big names.
Us fans have to play our part too, though. Too many QPR fans will post garbage and vitriol on Twitter as soon as we lose a game, but we need to be patient and allow this thing time to work. There are some good young players coming through, but they will make mistakes. Get behind them and be patient with them.
As a club, we have to stop abandoning our initial plan as soon as we hit a rough patch and stick with this now.
I hope this is the appointment that finally sees us get our footballing identity back.
I have a feeling we may well now have the right man who actually genuinely believes in the philosophy of coaching up the young players and making astute lower league/foreign league signings rather than just paying lip service to it for the cameras.

I have a feeling that next season will be better than many a Rengers fan expects. If John Eustace is leaving, I would like to thank him for his leadership at the end of the season which has given us a little hope. If Warburton can develop our youngsterswe will certainly be heading in the right direction.

I wish him all the best in the job. My one worry is he gets these youngsters playing well and then sells them on, only to keep doing it the next season. I hate being a selling club, it just dont make sense to me. I know all the comebacks about our financial situation, it just seems like there is always an excuse.

A lot of the negative comments from Rangers and Forest supporters was that MW is one dimensional without a Plan B when things go wrong. Let's hope they're wrong.
Welcome Mark. Best of luck with a 'developing' squad.

So the 52nd managerial appointment of my time supporting QPR. When will it ever slow down? Hopefully, the stability that most QPR fans desire will follow soon…. but who really knows. Somehow, this appointment feels very different – certainly to those appointments of the recent past. During the Flavio reign, most appointments (and indeed sackings) were greeted with total bewilderment. But I think that crazy period has fuelled the subsequent supporter impatience for every new manager to enter the South Africa Road revolving doors. When we run out of managers to sack, the warriors turn on the Director of Football – it is all sport, but something of a blood sport. When I look down the list of QPR Managers we have had in this century alone (see below), it all becomes something of a blur – why they were appointed and why did they leave and does it matter anyway? Under Fernandes, we have had a number of big names to grace our dugout, but our owner yielded to the keyboard warriors as their impatience ignited his own trigger-happy vanity. But somehow, most of those appointments managed to provide greater hope to the faithful followers. I for one was delighted to see the back of Sparky Hughes, the rogue ‘Arry and following the Newcastle debacle, the hapless JFH. Surely the next one had to be better than the one we had? Even when Holloway achieved his objectives, his sacking was ‘understandable’ because the McClaren appointment would surely bring a settled team and no more crazy outbursts? But other clubs warned us (Newcastle, Derby, Boro and Forest), but we still had our McClaren hopes – and just look how he then proved them all wrong as we knocked on the play-off door!! But then, the ‘I told you so’ set in, the hope evaporated closely followed by relegation freefall panic. We agreed with our fellow ‘we warned you’ supporters and we wanted him gone. But this time, the homework has been handed in by most of the supporters. The essay ‘How QPR will win promotion next season with no players and no money’ the only outstanding assignment. The other assignments that cover how tough life will be for the new manager have in the main got straight ’A’s. So, there is a realisation that next season will be about rebuilding and survival and will be a true test for all fair weather QPR supporters. The expectations are pretty low (the lowest?) but with a recognition that this now far less about the manager. We either buy-in to the short, medium and long objectives, or we need to find something else to do of a Saturday. I have written (too many times) about how we need a strategy and how we need to stick to it and not start all over again because we have a new broom to sweep away last year’s squad (again). All we have at the moment is MW’s record and his welcome video. He is not the Messiah, other clubs (again) have already told us about the flaws we are yet to enjoy. He says all the right things in the interview and it suggests that with the recruitment being correctly managed by the CEO & DofF, he seems to have been given assurances that he will be given time – even if we are struggling. Given that every other candidate was also flawed (you had to be flawed to even put your hat in this circus ring) Warrburton is probably as good as we could have hoped for. But beware, he is already talking about some wise old heads, players from lower leagues and playing the loan market. I think he has little choice but to do that in the short term, but will he take stick for those loans and old heads when it happens? I truly hope not but I supported McClaren when he did it. But with hindsight, he did it at the expense of the youngsters and the strategy – a fine line but important all the same. So, at the end of all that, I too wish him all the very best. I hope that we can stick with him and that a greater patience can be found. I hope that this time there is a genuine realism and acceptance of where we are as a club. Time to stop looking for scapegoats, we know why we are where we are, but it is time to dig in and get behind our squad. As long as we can see year on year progress and the promise of youth, I will hang on in there – well I would anyway……..

I must admit, I was hoping Eustace would be given the chance but not disappointed in Warburton although I hope Eustace stays. Found this on YouTube, you'll need to make a brew and settle in to watch it as its quite long, but worth it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObDogG_jWKw

It is well worth a view. It left me with a much more positive vibe about our new man. If he still keeps the same philosophy, we may well see the sale of Freeman and Leinster and the funds used to acquire a couple of experienced leaders on the pitch to lead a much smaller first team squad of approx 22 players with support from the academy. Had that been Holloway talking, it would have been a complete ramble, Mcclaren a condescending lecture, Redknapp would have explained how we needed to spend money because the squad was inadequate, but Warburton is the most articulate we have had for some considerable time.

Mark was my preference. He has done his football education but was never a player. If I remember right he was a schoolteacher!

From the Offie. Saying all the right things. www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/warburton-looking-forward-to-working-with-les/Warburton looking forward to working with LesGeorge Jones QPR Manager Mark Warburton is looking forward to developing his relationship with Director of Football Les Ferdinand. Warburton – who was appointed as Rangers’ new boss on Wednesday – spent two years as Brentford’s Sporting Director between 2011 and 2013, where he worked alongside Uwe Rösler. And having worked in a director role himself, he knows how important his relationship with Ferdinand will be. “I can’t emphasise enough how important it is for the club,” Warburton said. “That relationship with the Director of Football is hugely significant, making sure it is transparent and honest. “The manager has to feel – Uwe for example – he had to feel that I was there for him. “He had to know that I’d always have his back whenever I went to speak to the board and I’m sure Les will be the same for me. “Les knows I’ll be doing everything I can for the good of the team and vice versa and I’m sure in the weeks and months ahead the relationship will grow accordingly.” Warburton says that the pair will work closely, with their conversations of course being geared towards improved performances and results on the pitch. He said: “It’s all about that team out on the pitch and making sure the fans are entertained. We have to make sure that they are happy spending their money and enjoy following their team. That is our job. “We are in the entertainment industry and you have to make sure that on a Saturday your fans enjoy coming to Loftus Road, that’s the same for any club.”

Good luck to him. But the words could have been said by any of our managers. "Les knows I’ll be doing everything I can for the good of the team"
I think though that he's pretty safe in his job for at least the next year!
