QPR have recalled Ryan Manning from his season-long loan at Rotherham, it has been confirmed.
Rangers had the option of bringing Manning back to Loftus Road in January and have done so in light of Geoff Cameron’s injury and Massimo Luongo’s involvement in the Asian Cup.
Manning was allowed to make the loan move in August because he was behind the likes of Luongo, Jordan Cousins and on-loan Stoke midfielder Cameron in the pecking order at Loftus Road.
However, Cameron has been sidelined by an ankle injury and Australia international Luongo could miss as many as seven Rangers matches depending on how far his country progress in the tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
The first of those games was the 0-0 draw against Reading on Saturday, when Steve McClaren’s side badly missed Luongo, particularly during the first half.
Manager McClaren was already minded to recall Manning, although the Irish youngster had been assured QPR would not bring him back unless he was likely to get first-team action rather than be sat on the bench.
McClaren confirmed to the Rangers hierarchy on Sunday evening that he wanted Manning back in his squad.
Manning made 18 appearances for Rotherham, scoring four goals.
He has recently been a substitute for the Millers, with his last outing for them coming in a 1-0 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday.

Can't say this comes as a massive surprise. Hope he gets plenty of game time.

From the Offie www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/qpr-recall-manning-from-rotherham-loan/QPR recall Manning from Rotherham loanDavid Scriven @dmscriven MIDFIELDER Ryan Manning has been recalled from his loan spell at Rotherham United today. QPR have activated a clause in the loan agreement between the R’s and the Millers so that the Irishman can return to Loftus Road. Manning had been due to spend the whole 2018/19 season on loan at the New York Stadium. He (Ryan) comes back to us and he’s here to fight for his place. However, with Massimo Luongo representing Australia at the Asian Cup in January and Geoff Cameron sidelined with an ankle injury, Rangers have moved to bring Manning back to W12. Manager Steve McClaren told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “We are pleased to welcome Ryan back. "At the start of the season, he wanted to play and we couldn’t guarantee him games. Once we brought Geoff in, it enabled us to release Ryan so he could go out and play in the Championship. "With Mass away with Australia and Geoff now out, it’s good timing for Ryan to return. "From speaking with him, he was keen to come back and fight for his place. He knows it’s not guaranteed, he knows the team are doing well but loan spells like the one he has had are a good opportunity for young players. "I think he has enjoyed it and it has been beneficial for both parties. "Now he comes back to us and he’s here to fight for his place." Manning made 18 appearances for Rotherham, scoring four goals from the penalty spot. The 22-year-old will be eligible for the Hoops New Year’s Day trip to Aston Villa

I would be very surprised if he doesn’t play the whole 90 mins of the Cup game.

I would be very surprised if he doesn’t play the whole 90 mins of the Cup game. I'd certainly expect him to play some of the match Harr, hopefully in midfield, but I guess that at left back giving Bidwell a breather is not beyond the bounds of possibility. There seems little point in recalling him from his loan spell at Rotherham if he can't even play in this match.

No part played, strange, no complaints though.
