footballleagueworld.co.uk/qpr-interested-in-outlandish-january-swoop-despite-looming-transfer-embargo/QPR INTERESTED IN OUTLANDISH JANUARY SWOOP DESPITE LOOMING TRANSFER EMBARGO Published on 24/10/2018 By Jay Taylor Despite being under a transfer embargo, Queens Park Rangers are eyeing up a January deal that Steve McClaren is hoping to push through, according to reports. If reports via L’Equipe are to be believed, the London club are lining up a swoop for attacker Christophe Rodrigues Silva when the transfer window opens in the New Year. QPR may be under a transfer embargo, but they could be permitted to sign players should others first leave the club. With a loophole within their punishment for breaking Financial Fair Play, McClaren is keeping tabs on the 22-year-old who plays in the third tier of the French league system. His contract with L’Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien expires in the summer and with six months left, could see a move to the Championship come to fruition if Rangers are able to offload ahead of time. QPR are still in need of additions to their side despite a recent up turn in form as they are lacking in depth throughout several areas of their side. The Verdict Steve McClaren should focus on experience and knowledge in the Championship should be looking to add anyone after first offloading some players. That loophole, incidentally, is awful. If they are being punished for breaching rules, punish them properly and not give them a lifeline in the window by offering them the chance to sign players if others leave. That isn’t a punishment, it’s simply a one-in-one-out policy that is utterly ludicrous and indicative of the governing body in this country.

I'd treat this with a pinch of salt.
If a player does leave the club in January, we can only replace him with a free transfer (on up to 75% of the leaving player's wages). I'd suspect that this player will not be available on a free until the summer.

Why are the media referring to it as a "loophole"? To me that implies it's something underhand or taking advantage of a discrepancy in the rules in bad faith, like tax evasion or something. Doesn't mean I think we should be making signings or not, but the analysis of it seems to miss the point. The punishment is a transfer embargo which is rooted in trying to stop clubs behaving in a way that is financially unstable. So rather than letting QPR (or any other club in that situation) just spend with reckless abandon, they're only allowed to do it through securing the finance beforehand - as Roller says, funding a new player with up to 75% of the leaving players' wages and no more. That's not a loophole, that is literally in the entire spirit of the rules. Though I guess you can't expect much from shoddy clickbait journos.
On the transfer rumour itself...I mean, it fits the profile (lower league, apparently cheap, coming to the end of his contract, in a market we've shopped in before with Sylla and Ngbakoto) but I know absolutely nothing about him. If it was true, it would imply some kind of future proofing (acknowledging that both Wells and Hemed, or two players of that calibre, is a hard sell next season with the parachute payments gone), though either way it wouldn't make any sense without Smith and/or Sylla being shown the door. Or indeed, someone else in the squad.

Oh good, another attacking midfielder. He can compete for time with the 9 other ones we have or we can play him out of position.

Listening to offers for Matt Smith and Sylla in January. Sylla out of contract in June. Smith has another year. Washington out of contract in June also. They must be confident that they can retain either Hamed or Wells for next season, or perhaps they have other strikers lined up. If not, we will have no strikers at all for 2019/20. I know it is only clickbait, but we are probably keen to offload in January for all the reasons that have been covered on other threads. footballleagueworld.co.uk/its-only-a-matter-of-time-before-he-departs-potential-qpr-exit-in-january-the-verdict/‘It’s only a matter of time before he departs’ – Potential QPR exit in January: The verdict Published 26 mins ago on 30/10/2018 By Neil R Queens Park Rangers manager Steve McClaren may be prepared to listen to offers for striker Matt Smith, who has struggled for game time following the arrival of Nakki Wells and Tomer Hemed at Loftus Road in the summer. Transfers and January.
Two words that do not belong to QPR this season.
We can’t do jack, so just pretend January doesn’t exist.

The window opens in just over 6 weeks now. One of the concerns when we lost 4 on the spin was that we could not bring anyone in during the next window. Plus, if we looked doomed then some of our better players would be keen to abandon ship for pastures new. But that feeling has now been over taken by just the fear that we may lose players now that we (and they) are turning in good performances. I hope that our two season long loan strikers do not have recall clauses and that we are ok up front until next Summer. We have been fortunate with injuries and so I would still like to see Manning recalled, even though he would not be an automatic starter at QPR. He is a good utility player. At the back, we now have Hall and Furlong as cover. If Rangel is extended (and assuming he can cover at Left Back) we should be ok - we still have Cameron who can play in the back 4. Lumley has settled well between the sticks, but we do need decent cover as I suspect that Ingram will be keen to move out this window. Deing seems to be doing well at Stevenage, but would be a big step up if Lumley were to be injured. But as ever, it comes back to how the cash forecast is looking with regard to FFP. Do we have to sell in January? If so, I guess that it will be Freeman as he can generate the most money. Goss and Smyth may well also depart - probably on loan. A shame in both cases.
But this time the panic is not about buying more players, but having decent contingency plans should we get raided or need to sell.

www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-131118-sean-goss-qpr-fc-paul-smyth-movesGoss and Smyth among QPR players lined up for loan moves By David McIntyre 13/11/2018 Youngsters Osman Kakay, Ilias Chair, Niko Hämäläinen and Giles Phillips will also be allowed to leave on loan when the transfer window reopens. Rangers would consider loan moves for other young players, including 20-year-old forward Aramide Oteh, if offers are made. Smyth was made available during the final stages of the previous transfer window, having failed to impress since Steve McClaren took over as manager in the summer. The Northern Ireland international, signed from Linfield in 2017, made an exciting start to his QPR career last season. However, Smyth, 21, was hauled off at half-time against Sheffield United in August and has not made a league appearance since. He is still regarded by Rangers as a good prospect and is likely to spend the second half of the season elsewhere in order for him to pick up more first-team appearance. Smyth scored against Cardiff last season on his QPR debut. Goss, 23, has failed to make an impact since being signed from Manchester United almost two years ago. The midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Glasgow Rangers and suffered a back injury following his return to west London, has not made a league appearance for QPR since their 3-1 defeat at Brentford in April 2017. He is fit again, having made a number of recent appearances for QPR’s development side, but is well down the pecking order of midfielders at the club. Goss, who rejected potential loan moves before agreeing the switch to Glasgow, has been earmarked for another spell away in order to improve his fitness and form. His future is likely to be assessed in the summer, when he will have a year remaining on his contract. Other moves lined up McClaren’s midfield options – which also include a possible recall for Ryan Manning from his season-long loan at Rotherham – mean Chair, 21, is another player unlikely to get a look-in for time being at least, so he too will allowed to go out on loan. Angel Rangel will be offered an extension to his short-term deal after performing well in the absence of Darnell Furlong, whose return to fitness means right-back Kakay, 21, finds himself even further away from the first team. It paves the way for another loan move for Kakay, who has previously spent time at Livingston and Chesterfield. Hämäläinen, also 21, was born and raised in the United States and a loan move there has long been considered as a possible option for him. English clubs have subsequently been made aware of his availability as well. The Finland Under-21 international’s last league outing for the R’s came more than two years ago and it is more than three years since he was out on loan, at Dagenham & Redbridge. Centre-back Phillips, another 21-year-old American, has been with the club since the summer of 2017 and has not yet made a senior appearance. It is felt that the time is right for him to play first-team football. The contracts of Kakay, Hämäläinen and Phillips are due to expire at the end of the season.

Freeman - I think he's worth at least £8m-£10m 'real' value.
But suspect he could go for £2m-£4m...

I would be very pleased with that apart from allowing some of the younger plasyers to go out on loan.
Kakay certainly would benefit by playing league games.

No-one in or out - yes, happy with that.
Just one query, what about anyone returning - ie, Manning?
My guess is that, if everyone stays fit, he'll stay at Rotherham. I don't think it would be good for him if he came back having to fight for a starting place when he's getting a lot of first team experience - and doing bloody well too.

Freeman replacement if Luke goes. Beyond that a year's first team experience will do him no end of good. The only real bit of business we'd like to see in January is Rangel extended, which I suspect will happen. Furlong coming back helps as Rangel can be phased out for Darnell, but Rangel is an immense presence in the dressing room by all accounts.

I Agree and said at the time, rather we bring someone in as Kakay would not have been ready yet and needed to go out loan. Angel has shown that was totally the correct decision, been a different team with him in it and the two new forwards. Just hope the deal is extended until the Summer.

And the change of tactics in dropping the slavish playing out from the back in total deference to everything else, only playing one of the loan strikers, moving Eze more centrally and Cameron getting match fit. As a point of interest, this season our three strikers have 9 goals between them, at this point last season our four strikers had scored 17 goals (not that I'd swap back).
