Just a few thoughts from today:-
- On Tuesday the team received boo's at half time & today were clapped off at that time. Yet, I thought we played better in the first half against Bristol City than we did today!
- Leistner & Lynch played a lot closer to each other today & looked better defenders for it.
- Although Lumley has a long way to go, he exudes more confidence than Ingram does. I also think he is more vocal & our players listen to him. The most pleasing part of his performance was how he came & punched the ball clear from Wigan's last free kick.
- Wells workrate was superb & I thought he was easily the best player on the pitch.
- I enjoyed how the players showed their relief & celebrated at the end of the match. Especially how they all went & congratulated Lumley.
- Please can we stop giving away these stupid free kicks! Not that they caused us much danger today, but that will not always be the case & most could have been avoided.
The wine is tasting good tonight!
I would, unhesitatingly, echo your Leistner Lynch comment. I far prefer Baptiste to Lynch, but these two would appear to be the better partnership - perhaps because the 32 year old Baptiste is far more sprightly than the other other two and leaves them trailing in his wake when stepping out. Wigan played to our strengths by continually testing them in the air, any attack on the ground would have found them wanting.
I think that Luongo has come in for some undeserved stick on other forums. His tackling percentage looked high to me an repeatedly broke up Wigan's play. he may be slightly below last season's standard, but he is still an integral part of our team.
I had a very decent bottle of wine last night too!
