Every time I see an article linking us with someone in the transfer market it's with a midfielder.
I'm baffled by this as we have signed loads of mids in the last couple of years (see list below).
Actually as I see it this just a list of the central midfielders, I've left out N'Gbakoto and Wszolek as they are clearly wingers. I've also left of Grant Hall in his duel central defender/midfielder roll.
So this is essentially 8 guys for 2 positions depending in the set up I guess?
As an excerise, and since I don't get to see the team as much living overseas as I do, can commenters tell what kind of midfielder they think each of these players is? Defensive, attacking, box-to-box, ball winning etc and so on. I would be interested to hear people's takes.
Thanks
Luke Freeman Ariel Borysiuk Jordan Cousins Sean Goss Massimo Luongo Michael Petrasso Ryan Manning Josh Scowen

Luke Freeman - creative attacking midfielder with an engine. Ariel Borysiuk - defensive midfielder, linking defense and attacking mids/spraying to wingers. 'Fetch and carry' part of a two. Jordan Cousins - technical centre mid. Sean Goss - technical centre mid. Massimo Luongo - we use him as a box to box trouble maker but believe he's an attacking mid for Australia. Michael Petrasso - centre mid with pace but we've used him at LB (I think?). Ryan Manning - bit unclear as he's done well wherever he's been put. I'd say a creative midfielder - less flair than Freeman but more tenacity. Josh Scowen - on paper, a mix of Derry-like ability at breaking up play but faster and with a good eye for a long ball.

Not forgetting El Khayati Forgot to say, rangerjake omitted Wszolek and N'Gbakoto as they're wingers (I wouldn't agree about N'Gbakoto necessarily) but one of the Ollie frustrations has been the refusal to let Wszolek play as part of a system with real width. He's such a good player and we've had so many goals come from him getting to the byline and knocking fast, intelligent balls into the box. Sylla particularly seemed to thrive off that. Frustrates me that we don't play like that more often. I totally forgot about El Khayati. Barely seen him so it's hard to judge. Seems a little lightweight but had some flashes of class there but assuming he'll be out the door.

I think we played some of our best football when Hall was in that role as a ball-playing shield in front of the defence and agree that things fell apart when he wasn't adequately replaced when injured. Despite the often deserved criticism he gets, I'd say it's one of the positions Perch can actually play quite well in. I think he's often been poor at full back but pretty stable when he's slotted into defensive midfield and I'm not sure why he wasn't used to cover Hall in that role more often, considering he's a utility player. Plus him playing there means he's less likely to commit attempted murder against opposition wingers around the half way line.

That elusive Striker. Haunts us every season. What you didnt rate Stefan Moore, Hulse, Agyemang and Pellicori then London Hulses best goal was the one he scored with his bleep bleep ...... Ive even forgotten who that one was against now. Still Charlie was the man, the real deal for us for some time
