Warnock: I Am Not Distracted
Posted on: Wed 17 Feb 2010
Neil Warnock says that recent speculation linking him to the QPR managerial role has not distracted him from the preparation for forthcoming games.
What started out as a rumour swiftly evolved into media backed speculation and has refused to go away. But Neil is refusing to be swerved by the attention and is remaining focussed on Palace's busy league schedule:
"It is not really a distraction. I think I have been linked around 15 times over the years with them [QPR] and every time they have changed managers.
"It is one of things that happens. It [his position at Palace] is very insecure at the moment. It is not a very nice situaton that we find ourselves in and we will just have to do the best we can with what we have got at the minute.
"I won't pay any attention until they actually speak to the club, that goes for anybody ...[until] then my job is solely here and looking at these games coming up; and you are not going to get tougher, more enjoyable games than the next three."
Tonight Palace face a Reading side very much in peak form with three wins from their last three league games and a credible draw against West Brom in the FA Cup on Saturday.
In the last fixture between the two sides the Eagles ran out convincing 4-2 winners, but will be going into tonight's game without the formidable Victor Moses who was pivotal at Loftus Road.
"I am [looking forward to the game] but I have to say Victor Moses was unplayable that night. He was out of this world and that is what Victor was like in the latter stages of his career here.
"But we played quite well as well. It will be a good game. They are buzzing as well. They are in the throes of a good cup run as well so I think it has all the makings of a good game and I am looking forward to it."
Had Palace not have been placed into administration, tonight's game would have been a chance for the Eagles to establish themselves in the play off places. Instead three points will be a huge step further away from a closing relegation zone, which Neil admits has been the most difficult aspect to take of going into receivership.
"We thought we were going to be getting into the play off places with this game and now we are now trying to get away from the other end.
"That is one thing that has really hurt me. At my stage in my career I am not going to get too many more opportunitites to get promotion, and to have the carpet whipped from under me is devastating.
"I still don't understand why we have been put into administration. The guy who has put us in who is owed money he has not been paid, or is anywhere near getting paid it. So I don't understand why we had to lose points. It just seems like such a needless exercise for everyone at the club and once again myself, the staff and the players have been punished for it."

Mail - Ian Dowie Set for Coventry...Paladini's Reported Dowie Interest Noted-
Coventry bank on Dowie to stay up
Daily Mail/ NEIL MOXLEY - 17th February 2007
"Iain Dowie will be named as Coventry City's new boss on Monday. The former Charlton manager, sacked in November after the Addicks' dreadful start to the Premiership campaign, will be unveiled at the Ricoh Arena as Micky Adams' successor after the weekend.
The Sky Blues travel down the M69 to rivals Leicester City on Saturday afternoon with caretaker boss Adrian Heath in charge for the final time as, irrespective of the result against the Foxes, his brief tenure will come to an end.
The board wanted to delay the news until after the weekend to inform Heath of their decision, but news has leaked out that Dowie will become Coventry's sixth boss in as many years.
The former Northern Ireland international will be trying to re-establish his managerial credentials after a disastrous stay at the Valley in which he recorded just four victories during a reign that lasted just 15 matches.
And he will be battling to halt a slide down the Championship table which began prior to Christmas that ultimately saw Adams get the chop. After lying just outside the play-off positions in mid-December, a poor run of form that has seen the Sky Blues secure just one victory in their last 12 matches has set the alarm bells ringing.
Securing Dowie however, will be seen as something of a coup, particularly as the new owner of Saturday's opponents, Milan Mandaric, confirmed earlier this week he had approached the ex-West Ham striker about taking over at the Walkers Stadium from Rob Kelly.
And it has emerged that he was also a target for crisis club QPR whose manager John Gregory will be seeking answers to why chairman Giani Paladini sounded out Dowie behind his back.
Paladini turned to Dowie as he was seeking a popular choice to take over as manager in an attempt to avert a fans' demonstration against him next week - a protest that is likely to go ahead regardless of whether or not Gregory remains in charge.

QPR Reportedly Axe Youth Team Manager, Steve Brown - As Cost-Saving
-
Dave McIntyre/Ealing Gazette
"...Meanwhile, cost-cutting measures at the club have led to Steve Brown losing his job as youth team manager.
Brownās exit is likely to be confirmed in the next 24 hours. Keith Ryan and Steven Gallen are to remain as youth coaches." Ealing Gazette
Flashback: June 2007QPR Official Site - DUO JOIN BACKROOM STAFF
-Former Wycombe Wanderers duo Steve Brown and Keith Ryan have joined the R's backroom team.
- The pair will oversee the R's Youth department and be responsible for the Club's Under-18 and Under-16 squads, as well as the Centre of Excellence.
Brown, 40, and Ryan, 37, were released by the Chairboys as a result of a cost-cutting exercise earlier this month.
- Gregory welcomed the duo's arrival, commenting: "Steve and Keith will be two fantastic additions to the backroom staff, and the Youth department, in particular will benefit from them.
- "Their enthusiasm and passion for football is second to none and they've got years of experience and knowledge within the game, both as players and coaches.
- "It was always my intention to overhaul the Youth department and I couldn't be more delighted with the two men that we've brought in to run it.
"Steve will be our Youth Team Manager and Keith will be responsible for the full-time scholars' education programme, which for a number of years has sadly had appalling examination results.''
Brown, who made 443 appearances during a ten year spell as a player at Adams Park, was number two to Wanderers boss Paul Lambert last season.
Ryan, who clocked up over 500 appearances for the Blues, was responsible for the Chairboys Reserve side last season.
QPR OFFICIAL SITE - IN PROFILE: BROWN & RYAN
- Steve Brown began his career at Northampton Town in 1983, but left just two years later to join Irthlingborough Diamonds.
- He re-joined the Cobblers in July 1989, before then Wycombe Wanderers boss Martin O'Neill swooped for his services in February 1994.
- 'Brownie' was a huge fans' favourite at the Club, amassing 443 appearances in all competitions for the Chairboys, scoring 43 goals.
- He was part of the Wanderers' squad which reached the FA Cup semi-final in 2001 and after retiring three years later, he was appointed as Assistant Manager to then Wycombe boss John Gorman.
-Gorman's move to Northampton soon after fuelled speculation that Brown would return to one of his former Club's, but in-coming boss Paul Lambert retained the fans' favourite, until his release on June 22nd 2007. QPR Report

KIDS CRASH OUT
Posted on: Fri 13 Feb 2009
QPR's U-20 side crashed out of the Coppa Carnevale tournament this afternoon after losing 3-1 to Palermo.
Their impressive 3-0 triumph over Australian outfit P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers on Wednesday meant the R's needed to win today's match in order to guarantee their progress into the knockout stages.
Unfortunately three first-half goals from Palermo proved too much of a mountain to climb.
Danny Maguire netted from the penalty spot with ten minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late.
MPU Youth Team Manager Steve Brown told www.qpr.co.uk afterwards: "It's very, very disappointing.
"We gave ourselves a great opportunity to progress with that mid-week win, but I think the pressure of the occasion got to a few of the lads.
"Palermo got their third just before half-time, and that made it ever-so difficult for us.
"If we'd have played to the standard we're capable of, we could have won this match, I've got no doubts about that whatsoever.
"Our big players didn't perform as well as they can, which is a pity.
"But every one of these players will benefit from this experience, and I have to give a special mention to our goalkeeper, Nicki Lee-Bulmer, who pulled off some incredible saves.
"This was a fantastic competition, a great learning curve and a privilege to have been involved in.
"My only disappointment is that we're coming home as soon as we are."
QPR: Nicki Lee-Bulmer, Elliot Cox, Ed Harris, Lee Brown, Aaron Waters (Luke Olley, 70), Matteo Alberti (Christian Nannetti, 80), Danny Maguire, Joe Oastler (Terry Smith, 65), Romone Rose, Josh Parker, Antonio German.

DAVE MCINTYRE'S "AMULYA LOAN" POST
[This was the Amulya Loan piece by Dave McIntyre referenced above (and 7 responses posted)
davidmcintyre.wordpress.com/2011/02/03/the-loan-in-5-minutes/
The loan: in 5 minutes
By davidmcintyre
Just a quick post ā and a massive over-simplification ā about a letter sent to shareholders regarding the non-repayment of a Ā£10m loan to Amulya.
Hereās the broad thrust of what itās all aboutā¦
Most QPR fans are aware of the infamous ABC loan. This was a Ā£10m loan which enabled the club to come out of administration in 2002, paying Chris Wright some of the money he was owed as a result of his time as chairman and owner.
This loan was bad news, and the interest repayments alone were a noose around the clubās neck. It meant that ABC Corporation, in loaning QPR that money, had the right to acquire Loftus Road should that loan not be repaid at the due date. In short, Loftus Road was used as collateral to secure that loan.
Whatās never said about the ABC loan is that a large chunk of it was also used to fund QPRās promotion by making the club the biggest spenders in Division Two. Without that additional capital, itās doubtful Rangers would have gone up. Most wrongly believe that promotion was achieved on a shoestring.
Before and after the 2007 takeover, the ABC loan was a big issue facing the club, and by definition the new owners.
In order for QPR to repay ABC, the club was loaned Ā£10m by Amulya ā a company the club say Flavio Briatore and Amit Bhatia have an interest in.
This did NOT mean that the issue of the Ā£10m loan had gone away. It meant that the loan had been transferred from ABC to Amulya, who then had the option to acquire Loftus Road just as ABC did previously.
The loan to Amulya was due to be repaid by QPR by the end of July 2010, at which time the likes of Briatore expected to be owning a Premier League club, with all the financial rewards that brings.
When the loan was not repaid by QPR to Amulya, that option to acquire ā the ādeadlineā for the club ā was extended to the end of October 2010 and then to the end of January 2011.
With the second date now passed, the directors are looking to move it to May 2011 ā by which time they really do expect QPR to be in the Premier League.
In the meantime, Loftus Road will remain as their collateral, or to put it another way, their insurance, should that not happen and the loan remain unpaid.
Like ABC, Amulya have the option to effectively acquire the stadium for the Ā£10m they loaned to QPR (even though the stadium was last valued at more than Ā£21m).
This can seem confusing, and Iāve been asked how the directors can ādefault on their own loanā. The answer is to stop seeing QPR and the owners as one and the same. Theyāre not.
The loan isnāt ātheirsā and neither is the default on the repayment. Itās QPRās alone.
The club was given that Ā£10m by Amulya to repay the ABC loan. And like that previous loan, QPR must repay it or face the prospect of losing Loftus Road.
The bottom line is that the āsortingā of the ABC loan was no more intended to be a gift to QPR on the part of the current owners than Wrightās investment back in the mid-90s. Both were directorsā loans ā a fact that in both cases was overlooked because of the hype surrounding the respective regimes and their willingness to spend money on players.
And in an important sense, those two eras are linked by this Ā£10m loan. The Amulya loan was used to pay off the ABC loan, which was arranged in response to the troublesome directorsā loans that QPR were not in a position to repay in 2001, when Wright quit.
Got that? Itās a loan to repay the loan that settled the other loan

Warnockās major comedown
By davidmcintyre [/b]
From Messi to McIntyre in less than 24 hours. How the mighty have fallen.
A day after meeting Barcelonaās players as they trained at Loftus Road, Neil Warnock was back to dealing with the likes of me.
He managed to put a brave face on it, and as usual was having none of my attempts to put words in his mouth. Itās been nearly a year of this now. A change of tactics may be needed.
In an ideal world, heād have compared Troy Hewitt to Les Ferdinand ā the obvious comparison (for a lazy person) to make, given the latterās rise from another local non-League club.
That one was politely shot down straightaway, and was always going to be. But a comparison with DJ Campbell; now that was a goer, I thought.
āNeil Warnock reckons heās unearthed the new DJ Campbell in non-League hotshot Troy Hewittā¦.ā
It was all done in my head, and I knew which papers would take it. Job virtually done. All Warnock had to do was play ball.
He wasnāt having it. I had two or three attempts, but he just wouldnāt take the bait. Some nonsense about comparisons being daft and not putting pressure on a youngster. Whatever. I zoned out at that point, my superbly-crafted story ruined.
On a serious note, players from the lower divisions and non-League often emerge and attract interest, and itās almost always misplaced. But I think Hewitt can go a long way. I like him. People whose judgement I trust like him even more, and have been watching him for some time.
There are clubs that have been tracking Hewitt for much longer than QPR and will be bitterly disappointed that he looks set to join them. Heās regarded by a number of good judges as a genuine prospect.
That said, the jump from Ryman League to the Championship and soon, possibly, to the Premier League, would be an absolutely monumental one. Anything he does this season should be seen as a bonus. It could take 18 months or longer for Hewitt to adapt.
Even if it doesnāt ā and I have a feeling he might hit the ground running ā sooner or later a player making that kind of step up will almost certainly hit a wall.
When that happens, itās simply part of learning the professional game. And that game can involve going from flavour of the month to a cast-off very quickly.
An option for a club in Rangersā position is always to take on a player like Hewitt as a no-risk signing, and then loan him to another League club to see how he fares.
I asked Warnock if heād consider doing this, and he was adamant that he wants Hewitt in his squad. Thatās a big compliment.
As of this afternoon, talks were at an advanced enough stage for me to be pretty convinced Hewitt will be a QPR player.
Warnock expects the signing to be completed soon ā and is also confident he wonāt be losing one striker as another comes in.
He has spoken about Ishmael Miller to West Brom, who have an option to recall the player at 24 hoursā notice.
Thereās been speculation that, having taken over as Albion manager, Roy Hodgson might exercise that option.
At the moment though, that seems unlikely to happen, at least until Hodgson or one of his staff has watched him in action for Rangers. Even then, Miller will probably stay put.
Even so, Warnock has been looking at other possible loan signings should he lose Miller in the next few weeks.
As things stand, Miller will be on the team coach to Preston and it is, apparently, on that coach that Warnock will decide whether to make a change to his defence on Saturday.
Matt Connolly and Bradley Orr are the most likely casualties if he alters things, with Pascal Chimbonda and Fitz Hall waiting in the wings. Dan shiteeeeeeetu is another option.
Would he change a successful team? I believe yes, simply because Rangers dropped points at the turn of the year when he decided against making changes during a very hectic period, despite considering it very seriously.
For that reason, with games again coming thick and fast, I expect Warnock to make the odd change, if not this weekend then soon.
Finally, I want to say thanks for the many nice comments I received after my post about Harold Winton, some of which Iāll pass onto his family.
I also want to clarify something about my post on the Amulya loan davidmcintyre.wordpress.com/2011/02/03/the-loan-in-5-minutes/ , which attracted some not-so-nice comments! Thatās fine. Iām always hearing from and meeting Rangers fans who tell me what rubbish I talk and that Iām consistently wrong. Iām well used to that.
I should say though that the post, which some saw as negative and even scaremongering, didnāt actually include any personal opinion on the Amulya loan whatsoever.
It was purely a brief factual rundown in light of a letter sent to shareholders that had caused some confusion ā as the issue of the loan often does.

Hulse desperate to finish season "on a high"
uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/17022011/6....-high-quot.html
Rob Hulse insists he is fit and ready to fire QPR to promotion back to the Premier League.
The striker was struggling with an Achilles problem when he first signed from Derby and has found the net just once in 17 appearances.
But Rangers remain on course for a return to the big time after a 15-year absence and Hulse is determined to play his part.
He said: "I'm settled now. Coming in when I was injured made it a difficult start for me. It's probably the most difficult start I've had when joining a new club.
"But I'm getting back to full fitness. We're at the business end of the season and it would be nice to finish the campaign on a high."
