A man for whom the word Legend definitely applies.
Sad loss, not just for boxing but for all of the human family. May he rest in peace.

President Obama's tribute to Ali www.sportsfan.com.au/obama-says-ali-shook-up-the-world/tabid/91/newsid/199581/default.aspxObama says Ali 'shook up the world'Saturday, June 04, 2016 - 11:45 PM Source: AP US President Barack Obama says Muhammad Ali "shook up the world and the world is better for it." The death of the three-time world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali was confirmed in a statement issued by family spokesman Bob Gunnell late on Friday evening, a day after the 74-year-old was admitted to a Phoenix-area hospital with a respiratory ailment. Obama said in a statement on Saturday he kept a pair of Ali's gloves on display in his private study, just off the Oval Office and under the famous photograph of the young champion "roaring like a lion over fallen Sonny Listen." Ali "fought for what was right," stood with Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela "when it was hard" and "spoke out when others wouldn't," Obame said He said that even as Ali's physical powers were in decline, the boxing great "became an even more powerful force for peace and reconciliation around the world." The president said Parkinson's disease may have "ravaged" Ali's body, but it "couldn't take the spark from his eyes."

RIP Not just a greart boxer/sportsman, but a great human being. Why was he a great human being ? I always saw him as a mouthy twat Never to discourage different views , he did have an opinion which he said openly and in my opinion were very honourable .. Great showmanship and some may say arrogance but was voted sportsman of the century by the public who loved him. Opinionated yes but to say he was a "twat" .... NO. R.I.P. Ali , greatest there's been and probably ever will be!

RIP Not just a greart boxer/sportsman, but a great human being. Why was he a great human being ? I always saw him as a mouthy twat Because he lived & acted to his beliefs & principles. Holding them to be far more important than his own ambitions. He was an influence in the struggle against racial discrimination & his stance against The Vietnam war led to many a young American having the courage to follow suit. Thus helping to bring that conflict to an end. Because of his status, members of all races started questioning the nation's treatment of many of the population & many, for the first time, realised that if negro's acceptable to the establishment were involved in the race war, then it would have to be addressed. Although Ali was never a leader of the movement, he was very important to the cause. Not a bad CV for a "mouthy twat"! Not many people in my lifetime have been reveered throughout the world. Muhammad Ali was one of them.

Still think he was a mouthy twat who got his comeuppance in later life As someone who suffers from a neurological illness I dont like to hear that fabs I am pretty sure Clay got his due to years of boxing, which I dont even see as a sport and think should be banned. Most boxers are thick as shit anyway, a bit like rappers in the music charts. Amir Khan for instance. Got pissed up and knocked someone over in his sports car while speeding through a red light. They have since died. A few months later he was caught speeding at 140 miles per hour. He has just been seen posing with a machine gun in Pakistan. He is the sort of nutter that we should not let into our country because he is a threat to security and a danger to good members of the public.

Go and do some research on what Ali did outside of the ring as well as in it. Look at what he stood for and who he stood against. Thick as shite he certainly wasn't.

I think it's probably legitimate for people to criticize Muhammad Ali if that is their call.
However I don't think it's appropriate to do it at the time of his death...
Maybe at some future date - although even then, probably not on this site which is not intended for that
Could perhaps just observe the death of someone who's widely respected - and impacted upon many, many many.

Still think he was a mouthy twat who got his comeuppance in later life Sorry Timewaster, but you're either extremely bigoted or just plain ignorant - and your comments (to my mind) are unwarranted, unpleasant and offensive. Terryb hit the nail on the head with his comments, so no need to say much more. Sure, Ali was an extrovert showman, so what? He became the most recognised man on the planet who was hugely respected and held in great affection by the vast majority, regardless of race, colour or creed. He used his reputation and position to do more good in the world than any other sportsman I can think of - and probably most (almost all?) politicians. Just spend 10 minutes Googling the good Ali did throughout his boxing career and way beyond - and then maybe reconsider your comments...

"Hands can't hit what the eyes can't see, float like a butterfly sting like a bee". I think you're allowed to be cocky if you're a hero to everyone in your craft and seen as the greatest by all. Fought racism with as much ferocity as he fought in the ring. Ali's image achieved immortality long ago but he will be missed just the same
