Not impressed by the diamond. Too often the ball was with one of our players in the middle and there was no one offering any width. Do we need to shoe-horn Rooney into the team that badly?

I thought the Portugal game was alot of tosh. Fair play to Portugal with only ten men but we need to be doing better than that performance.
Unless we up our game, I think all three in our group are capable of getting a draw against us if we play like that again.

We were poor against Portugal but them having a man sent off did not help because it completely changed the way they played. Not the final preparation that was wanted I think.
I think the squad is unbalanced and lacking in width or cover for central defence. We have 3 central defenders and Cahill has injections in his hip while Smalling has a tight hamstring. Stones is not even the best central defender at Everton. If we do get through the group stages then we are going to need to call on the backup players to play their part. Imagine a central defensive pairing of Stones and Dier in the qtr finals. With no Dier in front to protect them we are relying on Wilshire instead and he has played 3 games all season and never taken to the holding role very well at Arsenal anyway. We will be destroyed by competent opposition. I would have taken Drinkwater and Townsend and dropped Berkley and one of the strikers. We have 5 strikers (Kane, Vardy, Rooney, Sturridge, Rashford) plus Sterling who can also play up front if needed. We have over-compensated up front and it's a big gamble.

Think the overall squad is OK.
Have to say the whole Arsenal thing with Vardy is potentially very disruptive.
As a Leicester player, he always had something to prove and over the last season played in a way in order to do just that for England.
As a (potential) Arsenal player he might think he's 'arrived, put in less effort and get a bit cocky/complacent.
The whole 'Big Transfer' thing has turned the heads of 'bigger'/better players than Vardy...

At Leicester he became a big star and played as a team member, at Arsenal, he'll be a squad player and just another name. How that affects his game will be interesting.

I think Vardy should be ok. He might yet even stay at Leicester, nothings concrete yet.
Although he might never get another big offer at 30 and realistically Leicester have as much chance of going down next year as finishing in top 4.
My reckoning is with or without Vardy they wont finish in top 8 next season.
Back to England, we need to be up for every game even Slovakia. They proved last week beating Germany 3-1 , they are not there to make the numbers up.

Dier is fundamental to Hodgson's the formation but is also the reserve defender and with no sensible backup for him as the holding midfielder. Sturridge and Wheelchair are big risks.
