I know it's important to some (like the apostrophe) but it's a case of both are right and both are wrong so it will never be resolved. If QPR was still in existence in 1,000 years time this question will still be being debated without resolution.
Mind you I know there are passionate believers on both sides so let the debate continue!

I'm not sure how they are both right Sharky.
I know of no other club, business, organisation etc. that tries to date it's existence to anything other than the date of union.
You can state that you can trace your origins to an earlier date, but that is different to when the company was created.
I don't know if this example is of relevance, but I was born in 1952 & my wife was born in 1956. These are the dates of our formations. However, the date of our marriage of 1975 is when we united (the date of the amalgamtion). Therefore I've been married for 41 years & not 63!

Well for me 1882 is a significant Date in the Forming of Queen`s Park Rangers. 1886 also has significance as does 1884 the Date the Club became Queen`s Park Rangers. Here in Napier NZ my local Club I had a hand in Forming back in 1975 became Napier Technical Soccer Club. In the Eighty's we changed our Name to Port Hill United Soccer Club, and have since changed our Name to Port Hill United Football Club Inc. Last Year we held our 40th Anniversary obviously observing 1975-2015 as 40 Years with a different Name from when we started. So for me its 1882,so Queen`s Park Rangers are in there 134th Year of Existence Today.
Come on UuuuuuRrrrrrrrrSsssssssss

The Final Result... As someone once said "The People Have Spoken–the Bastards!" Less than 120 Voting...It's obviously not scientific. But to some degree reflects the view
