From westlondonsport. Get well soon Alan. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-qpr-fan-in-intensive-care-after-accident-before-match-at-nottingham-forestQPR fan injured in accident before Forest matchBy West London Sport 27/01/2016 A QPR fan is in intensive care after being hit by a car before Tuesday’s match at Nottingham Forest. Alan Barnes, a devoted supporter well known to many R’s fans who travel to away games, was due to undergo surgery on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Long Eaton, where a coach carrying members of the QPR Loyal Supporters Association had stopped at a pub en route to the City Ground. Mr Barnes, a longstanding LSA member, stepped into the road as fans were re-boarding the coach and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. He was treated at the scene by an off-duty paramedic before an ambulance arrived. His friend and fellow QPR fan Peter Kingham, who was also with the travelling party, said: “I’ve seen Alan. He’s still in intensive care, is sedated and will have surgery. “It’s too early to assess his injuries. It’s very upsetting and we hope he recovers as soon as possible.” QPR say they are aware of the incident and are being kept updated on Mr Barnes’ condition. Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and co-chairman Tony Fernandes have posted messages of support for him on Twitter.

From the Derby Telegraph. A true hero in an age of pretend heroes IMO www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/hero-Football-fan-s-plea-trace-paramedic-QPR-fan/story-28624099-detail/story.html'Find our hero' - Football fans' plea to trace paramedic after QPR fan is run over in Long EatonBy Derby Telegraph | Posted: January 28, 2016 Queen's Park Rangers fans are trying to trace an off-duty paramedic who they say saved a fellow fan's life after he was run over in a busy Long Eaton street. Alan Barnes, 68, was on a coach trip with the QPR Loyal Supporters' Association to the match at Nottingham Forest when they made a pit stop at a Long Eaton pub at around 6.35pm on Tuesday. But disaster struck when the fans were re-boarding the coach near the Natwest bank in Market Place, and Mr Barnes was in collision with an oncoming Saab car . Mr Barnes is said to have been helped at the scene by an off-duty paramedic, who stayed with him until the ambulance arrived to take him to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. Now his friends and fellow fans are trying to trace the have-a-go-hero to thank them for 'saving his life'. Paul Dowling has used Long Eaton's Spotted Facebook page to appeal for help. He wrote: "Last night a QPR fan was seriously hurt in Long Eaton when he was knocked down. Luckily for him there was an off-duty paramedic nearby who by all accounts saved this man's life before the ambulance turned up. "There are a lot of QPR fans who would like to pass on their thanks to this person so if anyone can let us know who they are it would be very much appreciated. "Alan is very well known down at QPR and apparently he's not missed a QPR game, home or away, for many years. "There are a lot of concerned QPR fans hoping and praying for Alan at the moment." Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to an incident at 6.35pm on Tuesday, January 26. "A man was involved in a collision with a Saab car in Market Place, Long Eaton outside the Natwest Bank and St Laurence's Church. "Police closed the road from Tamworth Road and Salisbury Street near the library, which was then reopened at 10pm. "The man suffered head injuries and he was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. "His head injuries are not life-threatening." QPR fans and bosses have taken to social media to wish Mr Barnes a speedy recovery. Club manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wrote on Twitter: "Alan, a devoted supporter, was knocked down by a car on route to the game last night. All our thoughts are with him." And club chairman Tony Fernandes wrote: "Myself and all at QPR send our well wishes to R's fan Alan Barnes. He is in our thoughts." Update Nottingham Post QPR fans thank off-duty medics who saved life of fan on way to Nottingham Forest match By Nottingham Post | Posted: January 28, 2016 Alan Barnes went to board the coach outside NatWest in Market Place Alan Barnes went to board the coach outside NatWest in Market Place Comments (1) Football fans have thanked a pair of off-duty paramedics who they say saved a fellow fan's life after he was run over in a busy Long Eaton street. Alan Barnes, 68, was on a coach trip with the Queen's Park Rangers' Loyal Supporters' Association to the match at Nottingham Forest when they made a pit stop at a Long Eaton pub at around 6.35pm on Tuesday. But disaster struck when the fans were re-boarding the coach near the Natwest bank in Market Place, and Mr Barnes was in collision with an oncoming Saab car. Mr Barnes was helped at the scene by a team of off-duty paramedics and firefighters, who stayed with him until the ambulance arrived to take him to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. First on the scene was off-duty firefighter, who was only two cars behind the collision. Off-duty EMAS paramedic Fiona Martin told the Telegraph she was travelling home from Cliffords' gym in Long Eaton with colleague Rachael Taylor when they spotted the police cordon. She said: "We were on our way home and we knew the policeman who had cordoned off the street so we went over and asked if he needed help. "Firefighter Karl Denham was already on the scene, so we worked as a team to take care of the gentleman until the ambulance arrived – it might seem extraordinary to you, but to us it was just another day's work. "Without the first off-duty fireman being there at the right time I don't think he would have been as lucky." Mr Barnes' friends and fellow fans quickly launched an appeal to trace the have-a-go-heroes to thank them for 'saving his life'. Nice follow-up story from the Offie QPR INVITE FIREFIGHTER TO BIRMINGHAM FIXTUREPUBLISHED 14:00 25th February 2016 by @qprfc Karl Denham a guest of the club this weekend ... Firefighter Karl Denham to attend Saturday's match Denham was first on the scene following Alan Barnes' recent accident Lifelong Birmingham fan will be presented with a signed Blues shirt QPR have invited Karl Denham, the off-duty firefighter who was first on the scene following R's supporter Alan Barnes' recent road accident, to Loftus Road for this weekend's clash against Birmingham City. Denham, a lifelong Blues fan, will be a guest at Saturday's Sky Bet Championship fixture, as the club shows their appreciation for the part he played in helping Barnes in his hour of need. To show our appreciation on behalf of the QPR family, Denham - thanks to our visitors this weekend - will be presented with a signed Birmingham City shirt prior to kick-off. On the night in question, Denham left work 20 minutes early to attend a function. Within 400 yards of leaving the fire station, he was two cars behind the incident where Alan had been severely knocked over by a car. Denham got out of the car and was the first person to assess the situation, called the ambulance, and carried out immediate lifesaving actions on Alan, and commenced CPR. The on-duty fire crew were the next in attendance, who then assisted him. Two off-duty ambulance personnel attended shortly afterwards, and they also helped, at which time Alan started to come around. Denham stayed on the scene until Alan was in the care of the ambulance crew. Barnes continues his rehabilitation at Paddington Hospital in London after being transferred from Nottingham earlier this month. The club is in regular dialogue with Alan and his family and continues to send its best wishes to him as he continues his road to recovery. Get well soon, Alan.
