Gaffer previews Wolves clash âŚ
JFH looks ahead of weekend showdown against Wolves
Gaffer admits itâs a âbuilding processâ at present
Polter and Luongo earn praise from Râs boss
JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink wants his players to produce a âperformance that makes everybody proudâ when QPR play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday lunchtime.
The Râs will be under the spotlight of the Sky Sports cameras when Wolves come to town this weekend, as Rangers look to build on last weekendâs 3-0 victory over Rotherham United.
Speaking exclusively to
www.qpr.co.uk ahead of Saturdayâs clash in W12, Hasselbaink said: âMentally and psychologically it was an important win last weekend. We were close in the games before and deserved more.
âWe showed character and quality at Rotherham and in the second half especially, I liked what I saw.
âThe mood is good. But it's been good all the time I've been here.
âWe were calm when things weren't going our way and we've stayed calm after that win. When we come in to work, we work hard regardless.
âIt does make you happier when you win games but you can't forget about the other things you need to do.
âI don't look back as a manager. It's not my style. My style is to focus on the next game."
He added: âI have belief. I trust my players. I know we have talent here.
âIt's important that we keep on performing in the right way.
âWe always just focus on the next game at this club. We are concentrating on Wolves.
âWe want to put on a performance that everybody is proud of and get three more points on the board.
âThis is a building process. But we want to win matches. We want to win as many games as we can and then see where it takes us.â
New signing Conor Washington could be in contention to feature following his move from Peterborough United earlier this week, whilst Ale Faurlin is expected to be available after he missed out at The New York Stadium owing to a bout of illness last weekend.
One man who is almost certain to start is in-form striker Sebastian Polter, who â with three goals in his last four games â is enjoying a prolific run of form in front of goal.
Itâs certainly not gone unnoticed by the Râs gaffer.
âSeb has stepped up,â said Hasselbaink.
âHe has done well but I believe there is a lot more to come from him.
âThis is all new to him. A different country, a different environment, a different league.
âHe likes the physical aspect of the English game and he's quite good at that. He's a real hardworking striker and heâs learning all the time.â
Massimo Luongo, who enjoyed a rare start at Rotherham last weekend, has also earned praise from his boss, who added: âMass is another player who needs time, but we think very highly of him here.
âHe will play lots of games for QPR. I believe that.
âI was very pleased with his performance on Saturday. He had a very good game and he can build on that.
âTechnically he is very good. His offensive ability to see a pass and open defences up is without question. We need to help him improve the other side of his game and he is aware of that and is working hard on it with us.â
Wolves head to W12 in the wake of a 3-1 home defeat to Cardiff City last weekend, but their recent form has been highly impressive since Christmas â and Hasselbaink is well aware of the threat posed by Kenny Jackettâs men.
âI have big respect for Wolves and how they play,â he said.
âThey ask you questions. They're not an easy ride. They've got quality up front and in the wide areas.
âWe have to make it about our game though. We always prepare in the same way, focusing on us, but also looking at the strengths of the opposition.
âIf you want to be successful, back-to-back wins help a lot and that's what we are aiming to start on Saturday.
âThe next objective is to win at Loftus Road. We will make sure we are ready, prepared and focused.
âWe are at home. We want to make our home stadium a fortress.
âIf we play to our capacity, we will give Wolves problems. I believe that.â
