QPR official Site QPR have accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Officer Philip Beard ... THE QPR Board of Directors have accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Philip Beard. Beard will depart on March 15th 2015, after three-and-a-half years at Loftus Road. QPR Chairman, Tony Fernandes, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: βI would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for his contribution to QPR and wish him well for the future. βIn the short term we will continue to liaise with Phil regarding our long-term projects, ensuring a smooth transitional period prior to making a new appointment. βI have high regard for Phil and he will always be welcome back at Loftus Road in the future.β Philip added: βThe role of the CEO at QPR has changed in the wake of the recent senior management changes, especially on the football side of the club. βWhilst the changes have been positive, the decision-making process is evolving all the time at the club and I felt now was a sensible time to move on to other opportunities. βQPR is a wonderful club and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the directors and incredible management team and staff at QPR. βMost of all I want to thank the fans. The passion and loyalty of the Rangers supporters is second to none and I will never forget being one of 40,000-plus Rβs fans celebrating our Play-Off Final victory at Wembley in May. βIβve thoroughly enjoyed my time at QPR and I wish the club all the best for a bright future.β Read more at www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/philip-beard-qpr-ceo-resigns-loftus-road-2268942.aspx#KGVFsLtvGgBS1IQc.99

Not so curious me thinks. I posted a few days ago that Beard had gone very quiet and its obvious that Sir Les's role has removed most if not all the football side of things from the CEO especially recruiting players. Judging by the dates it looks like he jumped rather than being pushed although gently pushing can lead to a jump. Saves some salary for a while as well! Or perhaps the training ground and new stadium has gone tits up and he's done a runner.

It seems very unusual for a CEO or someone in a very senior position not to be on at least a six month notice period, sometimes even longer. So if the clubs 'long term projects' are still go then this leaves us short with a replacement unlikely to take up the job whilst serving his notice elsewhere (unless of course said person is unemployed) and get up to speed within a reasonable period of time.
Also, why would he leave now if the new stadium is likely to happen, with that being his strength and the reason he was hired in the first place? Did he get the hump because Les has assumed all of the football side of his job? The whole way QPR is run really is a right old mess, you couldn't make it up, and if it was another club this would be very funny, but alas it's us and our club yet again!

Someone else in a high position at the club also left recently to take up a similar role at Tottenham too, they all seem to be falling by the wayside.

Horses for courses. I wouldn't usually trust a facilities developer with football decisions. I wouldn't usually trust a footballer with facilities development decisions. It seems there are two distinct roles here. I wonder who will come in to fill the latter?

The new stadium went upside down as Cargiant blocked the deal, which might be why he jumped ship. Although The training ground is still a go from what I understand. Can't see why Les's promotion would really affect Beard too much. Beard was brought in for the business knowledge and getting projects like the stadium and training ground going. I don't see why Les's appointment would drive Beard off. While it take all of the football operations out of Beard's hands, he still had the business side, which was his strong suit. On the other hand, I can't see Les offering much in the area of getting a new stadium and training ground going. But at the current moment, it doesn't like the stadium is happening for a while, so maybe it was the right time. It's also possible that Tony is upset about putting all kinds of money in propaganda and lobbying to get the Old Oak project only to see it fail and has blamed Beard, so he is running towards the door.

Whats with the 1 months notice?!

Post by terryb on Feb 13, 2015 18:10:36 GMT
I don't understand why it is only one month's notice but I'm really pleased that this is the case, or both parties were happy to accept a reduction in notice.
I would look upon this as another part of our long needed cost cutting & the likelihood that the Old Oak contract won't be won.
Tjhough the question has to be asked - Who wiil answer all the e mails now?

Why is there moaning?
This is fan-bloody-tastic news!!
And as for the stadium, he wasn't in charge of that so him going makes no difference whatsoever. Finding someone to push the training ground over the line couldn't be too difficult

Finding someone to push the training ground over the line couldn't be too difficult I thought he was in charge of the stadium? I thought that was the main purpose of bringing him or at least trying to get the bid, since he was involved in the Olympic stadium committee. Granted that seems to have taken a huge step back and I thought maybe that was the reason for his departure. At the current moment, the only project that seems to be moving forward is the training ground, so they will have to get someone else on the project. As far as the football side of things, he obviously was in over his head and the appointment of Les took that away from him and put it in better hands. But my understanding is he was brought in more for the business side and working on the stadium/training ground projects. The work on the football side was just a lack of a better option. But if he wasn't in charge of the stadium and training ground, then really his job became pointless after Les's promotion. Also, he did state that managerial changes were the reason for his departure.

Thanks for the info Rory, was he not in charge of the training ground either? If that is the case, then this really just cut losses, his job became redundant when Les got the promotion. Surprising though, I thought that was the main reason for bringing him in. Much rather have Les in charge of football operations, considering he actually knows the game.
