My first match at Loftus Rd 5th September 1959. My father took me for a pre-birthday treat to see us play Newport County. I was almost four and the only thing I can remember from that day is sitting on my father's shoulders at the back of the old Ellersie Rd school end terrace. This is the programme my father bought 55 years ago.

Bushman,
The programme is incomplete.
You havn't marked who the goalscorers were!
The first match I can remember watching was on television, the FA Cup Final 1957 & I already hated manure!
Happy 55th.

Bushman you are almost 2 years to to day after me for my first match( Sept 1957 Brighton lost 1-0) I saw that Newport Game too.
57 Varieties. That Leslie Locke Hat trick and the second time only in my life that I saw a game from the old wooden Ellerslie Rd Stand sticks out in my mind regarding that midweek game at Loftus Rd against Millwall. Great Floodlight excitement!

57 varieties...Two shillings and six pence for a child in the wing stand area! A small fortune! The only other time I viewed a game from that old wooden Ellerslie Rd Stand was the friendly against Arbroath(Won 6-3) in 1969 Leslie Locke was quite a good Division 3 South forward for the R's. I Wrote an article about him on the Independent Website a few years back. I will try and dig out the link so you can have a read. Cant locate it at this very moment.

57 Varieties. I wrote the article in June 2011 and I know it was duly posted up on the homepage section with pic. Now for some reason there seems no trace. Strange? The Independent R's Admin team are looking into it.
In any event I do have my original typed article with photo and if all else fails I could E Mail you that.
Leave it with me. I will get back to you as soon as possible via PM
PS That admission charge for the Millwall game come to think of it was probably Nearer four Bob than two and six!

I did E MAIL 57 varieties my typed draft script with that above photo last week...because for some strange reason my article that was originally posted up on the Independent R's Website in June 2011 has disappeared into the ether!
Pity really because there was some interesting feedback on the comment section from people who knew him personally.
