So, Maureen and I had a really great day yesterday an the Yeovil match and were well looked after by Andy Evans who saw to our every needs. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We had good seats in the Director's Box although, it has to be said, they are cushioned but the leg room is no better than elsewhere! No chance to stretch out. I was sitting next to a very hefty guy - he was someone quite important in the Yeovil set up I gather - but he decided to go home at half time so then had a bit more space.
Had a nice chat in the Director's Lounge with Phil Parkes - a really nice guy to talk to and later got together with Ian and Roger Morgan. I have photos of both but can't upload at present as my pc went down this morning so I am using Maureen's.
I thought the boys played well although there were one or two silly defensive errors which could have cost us dearly. The sort of errors which better teams (especially in the Premier League) will use to their advantage. It was pretty obvious that Murphy was a bit nervous at first when he came on for Rob (understandable) but he settled quite well. For all that, hoping Rob's injury is not too serious; we need him between the sticks and I don't think Murphy is the ideal substitute. What a find Ravel is. I just hope we can get him permanently but, of course, the better he does for us, the more reluctant Wet Spam will be to let him go. Despite his age, Clint was solid in defence but again, what would he be like against PL opposition? Joey was outstanding and it will be a pity if we were to lose him at the end of the season. It's just those character flaws that let him down. Not impressed by Will Keane. He is too easily dispossessed at times and not really big enough to be playing up front. One thing was obvious and that is that Joey appeared to have been targeted - almost certainly with the intention of making him lose his rag and do something stupid. Another point is that Junior also seemed to be targeted and was the recipient of some pretty nasty tackles which the ref didn't always spot. He was running Yeovil's defenders ragged and this was the only reply they had. Yes, I am one of Bobby Z's sternest critics; I said to Maureen when he came on that this was akin to being down to ten men. I now eat my words. His goal was really well taken and he played some extremely constructive football for the short time he was on. All credit to Kranjcar for laying on Ravel's second goal. He could conceivably have taken a speculative shot himself but he quickly and accurately assessed the situation and set it up for Ravel. A very unselfish move on his part.
Leaving the best to last, the best part of the day was a face to face with the lovely Sarah Stock! Nice to say "hello" to you at last, Stocky, and what a lovely family you have - you all seemed to do pretty well in the betting stakes too!
Hopefully some pics later, once I have sorted my pc out.
