"There was no lack of effort from anybody as there hasn’t been in any other games, they’ve been excellent.
What we lack at the moment is maybe a bit of quality in certain areas."
The manager is effectively saying that in other games there have been lack of effort. How can anyone accept lack of effort and get away with it?
'They've been excellent'. What game was he watching?
Quality in 'certain' areas should have been shortened to 'What we lack is quality'.
Yet another awful gutless and spineless performance.

Isn't he actually saying there HASN'T been a lack of effort in today or other games? Either way not sure what he's watching out there :/

He was definitely saying that there has not been a lack of effort in any games! From what I have seen there is generally the effort there but not sufficient effort in the tactical application.. ie we scored today once enough players committed themselves forward and the ball was played forward and retained then laid off for Jenas to finish. So often there are insufficient players getting forward in numbers and a total lack of movement 'off the ball' ,ahead of the ball ie 'targets'!!- that's why we end up going sideways or backwards too much with no penetration.... and in fairness Austin and Phillips were previously the only ones doing that anyway ! What I don't get is why this isn't worked on in training or why we don't set the team up in a formation that suits the players and provides more creativity and penetration? eg don't have Hughes in a wing back position or Hill as they don't have the pace whereas Traore and BSE do. Have left footers on the left side etc etc-get the balance right and pick the right players for the right jobs !! It's not rocket science is it?

I don't detect any lack if effort in any games really
What I do detect is a seemingly total absence if quality management coaching.
We are no better organised or effective despite the presumable substantial amounts paid to the largest and most experienced managerial team in the division if not the whole country

My first visit for 12 years and I thought it was a good game and agree with Harry that you can't fault the team for effort. Injuries have indeed killed us and no one seems to have the confidence to shoot on site and instead want to try and walk it in, meaning Butland was not seriously troubled all afternoon. I've said on many occasions that we are simply not good enough for the Premiership even with Austin, Simpson,Phillips and even Remy Quality it certainly was'nt but it also was not a gutless or spineless performance either.

12 years js a long time it would have been nice for you to have seen a win.
Football is a game of opinions and what I see..... others don't..... and vice versa.
Apart from the obvious, every week example (Clint)..... do they go out and 'die' for the cause? Personally I just don't see it hence my spineless/gutless comment.
I think the LR crowd has always been forgiving of players that may at times lack ability if they give 100%. Did the midfield today run until they dropped? Did Junior and JJ inspire us with their desire to get the 3 points? When Yossi came on for 15 minutes did he do more than go through the motions?
Maybe you saw something I didn't after 12 years.
Maybe seeing this mob of millionaires week in week has made me a grumpy old git?
Welcome back!

Maybe seeing this mob of millionaires week in week has made me a grumpy old git? Welcome back! I can well understand the frustrations of seeing a supposedly good squad of players constantly under-performing week after week, especially if you pay to watch it. For me it was great to be back, albeit briefly as I fly back home this week to Spain where football is practically a non- contact sport. It makes you appreciate British football even with all it's faults. In my 55 years of supporting the Rs I have seen all the ups and downs and am pretty confident it will come right soon, maybe not under HR though. The message board is all about differing opinions without malice and I can see this is something you subscribe to and I look forward to your posts.

We are just boring to watch, playing possesion football with no end product, they pass the ball well but then dont make good runs off the ball into space that has been left open by the opponents who go looking for the ball, For me and i know he is not everyone's cup of tea, but Traore looks to be one of the few who is always looking to get forward with some pace and desire to make things happen, he may have the control of a bald tyre in the wet sometimes, but at least he has the will to run and try and get things going, yesterday he was the wrong player in the right position when he had that chance to score, if more players showed his desire to get forward we would be a much better team to watch even if the results were the same as now.
